Another Union Victory

Rather than accept a fair and impartial agreement on workers’ wages and benefits, the United Food & Commercial Workers Canada has destroyed the livelihoods of 200 working families.

Wal-Mart said it was shuttering the store in Jonquiere, Quebec, in response to unreasonable demands from union negotiators that would make it impossible for the store to sustain itself. The store will close in May.

Pierre Martineau, left, and Patrice Bergeron, two of the
Wal-Mart workers who initiated the unionization, stand
in front of the store they have forced to close.

Claudia Tremblay, a cashier at the store, said many employees burst into tears when managers told them the news Wednesday morning.

"Many people cried, including myself," Tremblay said. "I'm a mother of two children and I'm separated from my husband. It's very difficult."

Tremblay said she abstained from the unionization vote. She said she was upset her noncommittal stance won't save her job.

Now, they think a petition is going to save them. How do you force a retailer to keep a store open, a store that was already losing money and has now been pushed beyond hope of recovery by unreasonable union demands?

You don't.

I have been following the union movement's attack on WalMart stores, it's an incredible story that has the backing of liberal freaks like KOS. It is sad to see the store close. But I don't blame WalMart.
Nice blog here...
