Waking Up With Wilma

7:15 am UPDATE:

I have no internet as I write this, hoping it will come back on soon. Huge crash outside, and a few little crashes too, but I can't see anything. The wind is howling and the rain is pouring down, the power is going on and off like crazy. My poor puppy is completely traumatized, and he wants to go outside. I tried to let him out on the patio but he changed his mind when he saw what was going on out there. The bird is chattering like crazy, trying to tempt me to come and hold him. He's blowing kisses at me right now.

My adrenaline is squirting all over, I keep jumping up to look outside and I can't see anything. Something is crashing back and forth out there, I don't know what. I'm wishing for some shutters or some plywood right now, I wasn't planning on a category 3 storm.

6:00 am UPDATE: Thanks to the wine, I slept very well and woke up to Wilma. Lots of wind, and a good bit of rain. The power is going off and coming right back on, so far, so good. Still too dark to see much outside, the sky is an eerie kinda yellow color.

The 5:00 advisory says ...Wilma stronger and approaching the southwest coast of Florida...

...the center of Hurricane Wilma was located near latitude 25.5 north...longitude 82.4 west or about 55 miles southwest of Naples Florida.

In spite of its very large ragged eye...Wilma has continued to intensify and based on Doppler and aircraft data...it is now a high-end Cat. 3...110-kt...hurricane.

Wilma is moving toward the northeast near 20 mph and an increase in forward speed is expected during the next 24 hours. On this track the center will make landfall along the southwestern Florida coast in a few hours and cross the southern Florida Peninsula later today. However this is a large hurricane and strong winds will be experienced well before the arrival of the center.

Well, we are defiinitely experiencing strong winds. As expected, she is stronger and moving faster. Landfall on the west coast is likely to be in the next half hour. The power is off in Miami Beach and Miami Lakes too, I hear. Its on and off here, and the internet was gone for a few minutes too.
