Nothing to see here
Some of you might have heard rumors of this story on the Glenn Beck Show today. The caller talked about guns being found, although there is no mention of that in the actual article.
An anonymous tip about possible terrorist activity led police and federal agents to a Newark apartment, where they found six Egyptian nationals, camcorder videos of New York City and subway maps with extensive markings on them, officials said yesterday.
Uniformed officers responded and found six men, plus the transit maps, two videocameras and $8,000 in cash.
Immigration agents determined that three of the occupants -- Ahmed Mohamed Atta, 30; Ibrahim Mohamed Sameh Mahboub, 24, and Karim Ahmed Abd el Latif Ahmed, 21, -- had entered the country legally but overstayed their visas, said Tom Manifase, deputy special agent in charge of the Newark division of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Two others, Mohamed Ibrahim Gaber, 34 and Mahmoud Ahmed Abd el Latif Ahmed, 19, had sneaked across the borders, authorities said.
Interesting to note that the story has not been picked up by any other news organization and is only being reported in the local paper.
Remember kiddies, there is no reason to suspect terrorism here. Just because the guys are middle eastern, just because they are here illegally, just because they have done video surveillance of NY's transportation system and just because they have mapped out NY's transportation system, these are not justifiable reasons to profile these men as terrorists. To do so would be racial profiling and against the rules.
So, move along now, there's nothing to see here.
