Happy Birthday Moosh!

He's four years old today!

My Favorite Moosh Story is "under the fold" if you're interested...

Moosh is a Chow Chow, his name is MuShu but mostly I call him the Moosh, Cute ain't he?

Okay...

It's early morning and I let the pooch out into the yard to do his business. I go back in the house for a cup of coffee. Just as I pick up the pot, MuShu starts this frenzied barking. So I drop the pot and go running out and what do I discover? I discover my boy in battle with a land crab. Have you ever seen one? They are blue, huge (this one was as tall as my knees), with these horrible giant claws and they run sideways, fast as lightening. This is a blue land crab:

Eeeewwww!!! As you can see, they are the stuff nightmares are made of. What it was doing in my fenced-in yard, I'll never know.

So anyway, Mr. Crab is running all over the yard and MuShu is chasing him and practically howling. I'm chasing MuShu (and practically howling too). I was terrified that the crab would get MuShu's nose or tongue, or even his eyes, those claws are really sharp.

Mr. Crab is faster than MuShu and MuShu is faster than me. I can't catch the dog and we are going back and forth all over the yard. MuShu is barking and I'm screaming and all of sudden, Mr. Crab goes left with MuShu in pursuit and me in pursuit of MuShu. And I realize I left the back door open just as Mr. Crab runs into my house!

So the chase is still on, through the house and into the living room. I finally get hold of MuShu who is still barking and struggling in my arms but I run and throw him into the bathroom and shut the door. I'm out of breath, covered in sweat and completely traumatized. I still haven't had any coffee and I'm ready to collapse.

But, as you know, there is no rest for the wicked, and I have to go back after the crab. So I grab a broom and a laundry basket and I go right back at it, except... Guess what? Now I can't find Mr. Crab. So I'm pulling out couches and tables and looking behind things, my heart is pounding and I'm actually whimpering and I still can't find him!

Then... I hear this tick tick tick noise, turn around and spot Mr. Crab making a mad dash down the hall, heading for my bedroom. As you know, crabs in the bedroom are a bad thing (or so I've heard).

So, broom in hand, I charge down the hall after the crab but like I said, they are fast as hell. Just before he gets to the bedroom I hit him a solid blow with the corner of the broom, so solid in fact that Mr. Crab pretty much exploded, covering the walls and the ceiling of my hallway with crab guts.

Oh yeah, and covering me with crab guts too.

Just in time to go to work.

Guard the Borders Blogburst

As of tomorrow, we are less secure. As of tomorrow, our national security is once again left solely in the incapable hands of our federal government. Do you know why? Because as of tomorrow, the Minutemen border watch concludes for the month of October. And once again, illegal aliens will be free to pour across our borders with little but an understaffed, overworked, hamstrung Border Patrol to stem the tide.

I, for one, thank the Minutemen for their vigilance.

In their honor, for this week’s Guard the Borders Blogburst I present a speech from Minuteman Tim Donnelly (reproduced with permission) that was delivered on Oct 1st, 2005 in the O’Neill Valley on the border:

Who are the Minutemen?

Who are the Minutemen? That was the burning question in my mind as I drove down for opening day in Tombstone this past April 1st – and that same thought is with me today.

If you read the papers this past April, they got it wrong when they claimed we are:

Middle aged…

Balding…

Overweight…

White…

Racist…

Vigilantes.

And that was just one newspaper.

Let’s not forget what other newspapers have added to the mix:

Wild-eyed, armed ‘migrant’ hunters.

I have never seen such a lack of curiosity among those paid to be curious. I wish just once they would tell the world who we really are with the same sympathy they use in covering those who support illegal immigration.

Minutemen:

You have answered the call of your nation. You have shown courage and commitment and gone where others fear to tread.

You understand that while our elected government has failed us, our form of government has not – we are a self-governing people. You can see today that many who swore an oath to protect and defend the Constitution have failed not only this generation, but they have failed those brave few who 230 years ago pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor in defense of an idea:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

There are those who claim that WE seek to deny these same rights to those who illegally cross our borders. Nothing could be further from the truth. Men of great courage in America in the not so distant past rejected the notion that any man could be less than equal – yet what those who OPPOSE us are really saying it is okay to have a sub-class of people with no legal status, second-class non-citizens, who can never hope to be more than indentured servants to the slavers who bring them here.

We Minutemen are not content with a solution that rewards those who capitalize on the misery of others. But the status quo is good enough for the so-called “human rights activists” who are not offended when people are treated no better than chattel.

When Minutemen stand against the open borders coalition, we stand against systematic rape, abuse and exploitation of our fellow human beings. We bring water and food to those who are dying in the desert. We did not invite them, others did; but we will not abandon them to die as their enslavers do.

The status quo is 455 deaths this year, up from over 330 last year. Some say that is just the cost of doing business, as they count their profits. I say if we think that is acceptable in the United States of America in 2005, then we have failed not only our Founding Fathers, but we have failed all of mankind.

They say we are spreading a message of hate. If you read on in the Declaration of Independence, it says:

“That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed…”

The idea that governments are answerable to the people seems to me to be a message of hope, not hate.

Just as the French lent us the ideas that eventually became the founding principles of this Republic, so should we lend our voices and our ideas to our neighbors to the south that they could throw off their own shackles of tyranny. We could start by sending them a copy of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence.

President Bush earlier this year went on national TV and called the Minutemen ‘vigilantes’ just before I left for Tombstone. If you take the “e” off vigilante, what do you have? Vigilant. And isn’t “vigilant” what the President asked us to be after 9/11? We are answering the President’s call.

Article 4, Section 4 of the Constitution says this:

“The United States shall guarantee to every state in this union a republican form of government, and shall protect each of them against invasion…”

Wouldn’t it be great if the President executed his duty so well that Vicente Fox called HIM a vigilante?

On April 19th, 1775, Minutemen rallied against “Taxation without Representation” and rejected the tyranny of foreign rule. On April 1st 2005, Minutemen again rallied against “Taxation without Representation” and we stand here today in defense of self-governance. We stand for liberty and justice for ALL, not just those who can afford a Congressman.

We are not here to deny anyone the American dream, but what the Tories of our day are selling is not a dream, American or otherwise. It is a mirage. It is a fraud. If America were to open her doors to ALL who would wish to come here, the world would tilt on its axis and the American dream would be lost for EVERYONE.

In the sea of exploited humanity that moves across our open borders every day in pursuit of a false promise, all sorts of ugly things can and do hide. Terrorists who wish to convert by tyranny all who oppose their warped and radical version of Islam are free today to walk across the border unchecked with chemical, biological and even nuclear materials. This is an unacceptable level of national security risk in a post-9/11 world.

In 2005 what we need is “a nation of Minutemen, citizens who are not only prepared to take arms, but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as the basic purpose of their daily life,” as John F. Kennedy stated. I think President Kennedy would be proud to see all the Minutemen standing here on this line today and on lines all across this great nation.

We are a nation of Minutemen. We just need to wake up the other 299 million of us who have forgotten. Let the call arise and resound until the alert is heard in Washington:

“The Minutemen are coming! The Minutemen are coming!”

Let it begin here today.

As men and women of a proud Minuteman tradition, let us ponder what may have happened if those few had not stood against tyranny in the colonial America. This nation, conceived in liberty, would not stand as it does today – a beacon to the world and the last best hope for human freedom and liberty on Earth. Consider what the world would look like now, and what would even have been the result of two World Wars – or even if there would have been only two.

There will always be those who do nothing, as there were during those days a few Americans struck a mortal blow against tyranny on our shores. Yet we as Americans must remember, as Edmund Burke once said, “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.”

I say to my fellow Minutemen here today that if America is to fall prey to terrorists and those who would undermine her sovereignty: LET IT NOT BE ON OUR WATCH!

Wilma Weirdness

or shameless self promotion of a natural disaster? I report, you decide what to make of this...

LEE COUNTY— While watching NBC2 coverage of Hurricane Wilma about two dozen residents called the station reporting an unusual sighting. While watching a Doppler loop of Hurricane Wilma coming ashore, a number two appeared in the eye of the storm.

In going back through the recorded Doppler loop, we found exactly what viewers were talking about.

Dark Prince - Defender of Islam

Prince Charles, the recent recipient of an Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies Award for his contribution to understanding Islam, is now coming to America, to defend and promote Islam, and to encourage America to "share his fondness for Islam."

A likely followup indeed to the conversion of his Gloucestershire garden at his Highgrove home into a minature "Muslim Paradise," presumably without 72 virgins.

The Prince of Wales will try to persuade George W Bush and Americans of the merits of Islam this week because he thinks the United States has been too intolerant of the religion since September 11.

"I find the language and rhetoric coming from America too confrontational," the Prince said

Khalid Mahmood, the Labour MP for Birmingham Perry Bar, was also at the meeting at St James's Palace. "His criticism of America was a general one of the Americans not having the appreciation we have for Islam and its culture," he said.

Prince Charles, who is about to embark on his first official foreign tour since his marriage to the Duchess of Cornwall, wants Americans - including Mr Bush - to share his fondness for Islam.

"Share his fondness for Islam?" Piss off Prince. I have no fondness for terrorists.

Let me tell you what terrorism is.

Terrorism is the the systematic use of terror as a means of coercion, the use of violence (as bombing) committed by groups in order to intimidate a population or government into granting their demands.

You obviously view terrorists as "freedom fighters" and/or "militants" fighting oppression. Tell that to the children of Beslan. Tell that to teenagers in Israel, the 3,000 who died on 9/11, the hundreds killed on a train in Spain, the hundreds of Iraqis who were blown up in the street this year, oh, and the hundreds of your countrymen who died in July.

The United States of America has done more to promote freedom throughout the world than any other country. We have sacrificed more and given more of ourselves, our people, our money and our time to stand up for freedom throughout the world. We will continue to do so, and we will never share your "fondness" for the monsters who killed those children in Beslan, who blew up the trains in Spain, who bomb pizzarias and buses in Israel, who flew planes into the WTC, and yes, who blew up your countrymen on July11, 2005. These are the same people who are blowing up innocent Iraqis even as they try to rebuild their lives after Saddam.

Albert Einstein once said: "The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it."

The world is a dangerous place also because of the people who don't do evil but who make it easier for others to do it. And that includes you Prince Charles, that includes you.

Sick of SCOTUS

That's right.

All of my favorite places in the blogosphere have been yammering on and on and on for days and days and days on the same tired old subject, passing around the same rumors and analysis, pissing and moaning from one side or the other, for or against, until I am so sick of it that playing in traffic sounds like a good idea.

And now, the cycle begins again. Who will the nominee be? Well, whoever it is, I won't be posting about it.

This month, my blog was a Harriet Miers Free Zone. It is now a SCOTUS Free Zone.

We call them Moonbats

And so, the moonbats hit the streets upon the occassion of the death of the 2000th troop in Iraq.

Zombietime has the pictures, moonbats showing their deep sadness at the loss of our troops at what they claim is a somber and respectful event. Just disregard the smiles and joy on their faces.

We call them moonbats and they are the parasites of freedom, leeching upon the efforts and sacrifices of the United States Military.

We call them moonbats and they have chosen to give their support to terrorism against the United States of America. In doing so, they have chosen to embrace a monster the likes of which they are unable to comprehend.

They have no idea what the consequences of their actions will be in the future, for the situation in Iraq is nothing but a small part of the islamic agenda to cleanse all lands of all kufirs, infidels and jews, and to rule those lands according to islamic law.

If the islamic agenda is successful, the future might not be to their liking.

Today, they are free to support terrorism, spread lies and sow dissention only because there are those today who fight the good fight to defend them. Because of the efforts of the brave men and women who serve in the United States Military, perhaps the islamic agenda will not be successful in this lifetime. They may sleep well and warm in their beds tonight, and enjoy a lifetime of indolence and indifference.

They do not consider the legacy they will leave behind for their children and their children's children.

If the islamic agenda is successful, it will be because of their actions, and their actions alone. In the end, they will sentence America to suffer under the very same monster they embrace today.

If their actions today bear fruit tomorrow, it is future Americans who will suffer under islamic law. And as they suffer, surely they will curse the names and the memory of those who turned their face from the truth and embraced the lie, those who choose to bow their head and look the other way, those who today support terrorism and nurture the beast.

Perhaps G-d will be merciful come Judgment Day, but if it were left to me, they will burn in hell.

Bragging on my kid

I am so darn proud of my Blog Daughter.

We put the blog up in early September and she has managed to attain Large Mammal Status in the TTLB Ecosystem already. Ha! It took me several months to get to Mammal Status.

So? Go visit the PC Free Zone at Theodore's World to see why... Oh, and... tell her Mom sent you!

STFU!!!

Tis true that Bush's second term has been more than a disappointment but, things like this remind me that no matter how bad it is, I am still grateful that John Kerry ain't in the White House.

Whose side is John Kerry on anyway? Not ours, that's for sure.

Whew.

Dodged a bullet here in Dade County. The storm blew in hard, I lost the power at about 7:30 am on Monday morning, along with the rest of Miami-Dade and Broward County.

I am luckier than most, the power came back about a half hour ago.

Damage is extensive in my neighborhood, trees down, roof tiles everywhere. I lost the car port, it blew up out of the ground and then crashed against the screened in patio. It was the best thing that could have happened, it provided the "third wall" on the patio and protected it from the winds. I was able to open all the windows and get some air, and I spent a good bit of time out there, watching the trees blow over.

One casualty was my mango tree, nothing left there but the main trunk and two branches. No great loss, I don't like mangos and I don't like the racoons that come to eat them. Bastards make the dog bark.

I had to dig the truck out, there was huge pile of tree branches behind it, but none on the truck itself. Talk about lucky!

The office is a disaster, went by this morning and the building was closed, the power was out and debris everywhere. Some water damage in one of the offices too. I'm hoping to get back to work tomorrow, the market waits for no one, and I'm concerned about my clients. I'd like to get back to regular life as soon as possible.

Waking Up With Wilma

7:15 am UPDATE:

I have no internet as I write this, hoping it will come back on soon. Huge crash outside, and a few little crashes too, but I can't see anything. The wind is howling and the rain is pouring down, the power is going on and off like crazy. My poor puppy is completely traumatized, and he wants to go outside. I tried to let him out on the patio but he changed his mind when he saw what was going on out there. The bird is chattering like crazy, trying to tempt me to come and hold him. He's blowing kisses at me right now.

My adrenaline is squirting all over, I keep jumping up to look outside and I can't see anything. Something is crashing back and forth out there, I don't know what. I'm wishing for some shutters or some plywood right now, I wasn't planning on a category 3 storm.


6:00 am UPDATE: Thanks to the wine, I slept very well and woke up to Wilma. Lots of wind, and a good bit of rain. The power is going off and coming right back on, so far, so good. Still too dark to see much outside, the sky is an eerie kinda yellow color.

The 5:00 advisory says ...Wilma stronger and approaching the southwest coast of Florida...

...the center of Hurricane Wilma was located near latitude 25.5 north...longitude 82.4 west or about 55 miles southwest of Naples Florida.

In spite of its very large ragged eye...Wilma has continued to intensify and based on Doppler and aircraft data...it is now a high-end Cat. 3...110-kt...hurricane.

Wilma is moving toward the northeast near 20 mph and an increase in forward speed is expected during the next 24 hours. On this track the center will make landfall along the southwestern Florida coast in a few hours and cross the southern Florida Peninsula later today. However this is a large hurricane and strong winds will be experienced well before the arrival of the center.

Well, we are defiinitely experiencing strong winds. As expected, she is stronger and moving faster. Landfall on the west coast is likely to be in the next half hour. The power is off in Miami Beach and Miami Lakes too, I hear. Its on and off here, and the internet was gone for a few minutes too.

UN-happy Birthday

It was sixty-one years ago on October 24, 1945 that the United Nations came into existence as an instrument of peace with a vision to make the world a better place for succeeding generations - a world where nations are at peace with one another, where people's human rights are protected, where the equal rights of men and women are guaranteed, where the rule of law is observed and respected, and social progress and better standards of life are ensured for all.

Sadly, the United Nations has not only failed miserably, but has become a protector of terrorists and a supporter of the regimes which breed them.

When the President of the United States spoke to the United Nations in October of 2004, he spoke of the need for change and called for a new course of action against the threat of terrorism, to stop the killing of school children in Russia, the beheading of construction workers in Iraq, the murder by suicide bombers. He spoke of how, rather than engineers, doctors, scientists and social workers, the Muslim world has become the world's largest exporter of hatred and murder. He spoke of how Muslim equality for women has emerged under the guise of female suicide bombers. He spoke of the consequences of terrorism that have been perpetuated by the Muslim world for over a decade in New York, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Kenya, Tanzania, and Bali, Jakarta, Moscow, Madrid and Istanbul.

The President urged action against terrorism, admitting that "for too long, many nations, including my own, tolerated, even excused, oppression in the Middle East in the name of stability." He promised to implement the radical changes that would lead to freedom, to take the fight to the enemy instead of waiting for them to come to us. He acknowledged that it would not be easy and he urged the world to unite in the effort.

What effect could such powerful words have when most of those oppressors, most of those violators of human rights and decency, most of those dictators that our President was referring to in his speech sat before him as members in good standing of the United Nations?

Sitting on UN Commission on Human Rights are some of the world's worst mass murderers and violators of the very human rights they are supposed to protect, including Cameroon, China, Congo (DRC), Cuba, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Uganda, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe. The Chairman of the Commission is one of the worst human rights offenders, Libya. These are the very same human rights violators that the Commission is supposed to investigate and expose.

No wonder, then, that the UN has failed to even criticize China's human rights violations, failed to even discuss slave labor when the former Soviet Union existed, failed to even consider the sale of white women and children in Saudi Arabia, failed to investigate the denial of the most basic human rights to women in Asia and Arab countries, and failed to examine the slave trade in Arab countries.

The Commission voted against "special observation" of Zimbabwe's violations of human rights; and voted for the upgrading of the human rights status of Sudan, even while its dictatorship is committing genocide against its southern black Christians, carrying on slavery, and approving of systematic rape.

Consider the actions of Commission member Cuba. Castro had thrown into prison seventy-five dissidents, including journalists and librarians; and it had executed three men who hijacked a ferryboat to escape from this communist hellhole. No matter. The Commission reelected Cuba to another three-year term, "undoubtedly a recognition of the Cuban Revolution's work in human rights in favor of all our people," so Cuba proclaimed.

Ever careful to protect itself and its member dictatorships, the UN went so far as to terminate its relationship with the free speech organization Reporters Without Borders after it criticized the UN's human rights record. Reporters Without Borders had the audacity to suggest reforms that included the restricting of voting by dictatorships and claimed "that granting the chair to Qadhafi's [Libyan] regime has been a disgrace to the commission." The Commission voted 27 to 23 to suspend its relationship with the organization. All of the democratic members voted against it.

As Victor Davis Hanson said in the Wall Street Journal, "It is not the same United Nations of decades past, helping the poor nations with hunger, and sending troops around the world to keep the peace. Gone are the days when UNESCO and UNICEF provided selfless service around the world to fight disease and famine. Now it is a political body with a different agenda. Its membership is rife with tyrannies, theocracies and Stalinist regimes."

Immediately prior to the President's speech, Kofi Anan declared the Iraq War illegal to a BBC reporter. No surprise, considering that at the time of Iraq's blatant defiance of the United Nations resolutions on its weapons of mass destruction, one of Saddam Hussein's henchmen chaired the May sessions of the UN Conference. No surprise considering Kofi Anan's participation the Oil for Food scandal currently under investigation. No surprise considering the UN was silent while Saddam Hussein starved, tortured, maimed and murdered his own people.

Indeed, the UN was silent while Slobodan Milosevic methodically practiced ethnic cleansing in his country. The UN was silent while the Taliban systematically murdered their own people, repressed all human rights, and enslaved women. The UN was silent while in Rwanda and Burundi, half a million lives were lost in civil war.

The UN was silent while 800,000 people were murdered in 1994 during a systematic genocide organized by the Hutu government, and carried out against the Tutsi minority by its troops, police, and specially trained death squads. In 1999, an independent report condemned the UN's reluctance to accept evidence of a genocide, and reluctance to act once the genocide was undeniable.

The UN was silent while in North Korea hundreds of thousands have been murdered in the last decade, and possibly three million have been starved to death in a government created famine.

The UN was silent while 8,000 Muslim men and boys were murdered in Srebrenica, Bosnia, during the Bosnian war of 1995. Another UN commissioned report on this asserted that the UN peacekeepers stood by while Serb troops massacred those to whom the UN had promised protection. The UN had refused to reinforce their peacekeepers with enough troops, and even then severely restricted the action of those that were there.

The UN was silent while over three million were killed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo with UN peacekeepers standing by and watching.

And the UN remains silent through the genocide in Sudan.

By its own admission in the Report of the Panel on UN Peace Operation, the UN recognized that its peacekeeping efforts have failed. It undertook peacekeeping in only a third of the conflicts during the 1990s, and when the UN did do something, it failed or was not effective.

And yet, the UN raises its voice, loud and clear, in consistent and constant condemnation of Israel. In the last few decades, more than half of the UN resolutions passed were against Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East. Israel scores as high as the United States, Canada, and United Kingdom on political rights. On civil liberties, Israel scores much higher than the dictatorship members of the UN.

Consider the dictatorships of Algeria, China, Libya, Saudi Arabia, and Syria, all of whom are members of the UN Commission on Human Rights. The dictatorship of Egypt is a member of all six UN committees concerned with human rights treaties. The dictatorships of Libya, Saudi Arabia, and Sudan participate on the Governing Council of the International Labor Organization. The bloody dictatorship of Iran is on the five-member UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention.

Dictatorships who treat women as second class citizens or slaves like Egypt, Iran, Sudan and the United Arab Emirates are all members of the UN Commission on the Status of Women.

The United Nations is still investigating about 150 allegations of sexual abuse by its staff and soldiers in the Congo. The charges include accusations of pedophilia, rape and prostitution, some of which have been recorded on videotape.

"I am afraid there is clear evidence that acts of gross misconduct have taken place," said Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

Although it promises a full investigation and to hold those involved accountable, the fact is that the UN has never been open or honest and has been known to ignore evidence in the past – including accusations of rape and murder by "peacekeepers."

Look on the bright side Kofi: at least no one was forced to wear panties on their heads. Now that would be an outrage!

Look.. up in the sky!

Okay, its official. SoFla is now under a hurricane warning. According to the local news:

At 4 a.m. CDT Sunday, the center of Hurricane Wilma was located near latitude 22.1 north, longitude 86.6 west or about 40 miles north of Cancun, Mexico, and about 350 miles west-southwest of Key West, Fla.

Wilma is moving toward the northeast near 3 mph, and an increase in forward speed is expected during the next 24 hours.

Maximum sustained winds are near 100 mph, with higher gusts, making Wilma a Category 2 hurricane. It is expected to reach Florida on Monday.

Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 70 miles from the center, and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 200 miles.

Near as I can tell, she hasn't turned east yet. No telling where she'll land although most experts agree it will be somewhere near Lake Okeechobee. While that might sound good for SoFla, its really not since, if Wilma does in fact land north of SoFla, that means we get the strong side of the storm. Such is the way of the hurricane when it comes it from the Gulf.

Around here right now, its just another day. The sky around here is a uniform grey, and its still outside, very still. I haven't seen much rain, sprinkles mostly, but just a few miles north in Lauderdale, they have hip-deep flooding already.

I'll keep posting as long as I'm able, since Katrina didn't knock out the power, I'm hopeful that Wilma won't either.

10:14 am UPDATE: As expected, the worm, er, Wilma has turned and is now headed straight for SoFla.

2:16 pm UPDATE: By 2 p.m. EDT on Sunday, Wilma had maximum sustained wind near 100 mph. It was centered about 240 miles west-southwest of Key West and was moving toward the northeast at about 12 mph.

Hurricane-force wind of at least 74 mph extended up to 70 miles out from the center, and wind blowing at tropical storm-force reached outward up to 200 miles.

Hurricane center Director Max Mayfield predicted Wilma would dramatically pick up speed later Sunday and its top wind speed would increase. "It's really going to take off like a rocket," he said. "It's going to start moving like 20 mph."

Is it my imagination, or is the wind picking up a bit? I think its my imagination since the forecast claims SoFla will start feeling the winds around midnight tonight.

I figured I didn't need no steenkin' plywood, nope, not me, but something spooked my neighbors and they are boarding up right now. I kinda feel left out.

Today's "Did you know" ... the Ibis is the mascot for the University of Miami Hurricanes because it is the last bird to leave when a hurricane is on its way.


4:00 pm UPDATE: Wilma is speeding up and could be here sooner than expected and stronger than expected. Circulation is expanding and the first squall is expected in the Keys within the hour. Category 3 conditions are possible in the SW Keys. Landfall anticipated to be between Ft Myers and Naples some time around daybreak. SoEFla expected to get Category 1-2 winds.

They say we will start feeling the storm around midnight, but I'm waiting for the 5:00 report. That might have changed by now.


4:30 pm UPDATE: From NBC6: Tropical storm-force wind was expected to begin lashing the state late Sunday and meteorologists said the heart of the storm was expected to roar across the state Monday. Tornados were possible over parts of the state through Monday and powerful storm surge flooding was expected on the southwest coast.

7:40 pm UPDATE:

At 5 p.m. EDT on Sunday, Wilma was centered about 210 miles west-southwest of Key West and moving northeast at about 14 mph. Hurricane-force wind of at least 74 mph extended up to 85 miles from the center and wind blowing at tropical storm-force reached outward up to 230 miles, the hurricane center said.

As it neared Florida, Wilma's forward progress was expected to intensify. Tornado are all over Central Florida.

Forecasters said Wilma would approach Category 3 strength before making landfall.

Tropical storm-force winds of at least 39 mph ar expected late tonight, and the core of the hurricane is forecast to cut across Florida Monday at about up to 25 mph. "We anticipate heavy power outages and flooding," Gov. Bush said.

Rain and wind is getting serious down there and there is now a curfew to keep people off the street.

Nothing much to report here. The wind is picking up a bit here and there and then it goes quiet again. I just moved my truck next to the house and away from all the crap that my neighbor has piled up across the street, what a jackass. For me, its time for dinner, a nice warm bath, a glass of wine and a good book.

Wilma is moving toward the northeast near 15 mph...24 km/hr. A continued northeastward motion... with a gradual increase in forward speed... is expected tonight and Monday. On this track...the center of Wilma is forecast to be near the southwestern coast of the Florida Peninsula early Monday morning. However...Wilma is a large system and tropical storm force winds will reach the Florida Keys and Florida Peninsula well before the eye makes landfall.

The greatest threat during the next several hours will be from Tampa Bay northward with a second band of thunderstorms affecting Lee and Charlotte counties. Any tornadoes will be fast moving.

Wilma is now only one mph short of being a category 3. The eye of the storm is very well formed. Reports in from Sugarloaf Key, 17 miles north of Key West, say conditions are deteriorating rapidly Its quietly windy here in North Miami Beach, no rain, no thunder, no lightening.

10:00 pm UPDATE:

... The center of the large eye of Hurricane Wilma was estimated by the NOAA Doppler Radar In Key West Florida near latitude 24.3 North...Longitude 83.8 West or about 130 mileS... 210 KM... West of Key West Florida and about 10 MILES... Southwest of Naples Florida.

Recent data from an Air Force Reserve Unit Reconnaissance Aircraft and from the NOAA Doppler Radar in Key West Florida indicate Wilma is very near Category Three...or major... Hurricane strength. If thunderstorms in the eyewell continue to persist and remain well organized... then Wilma will likely be upgraded to a category three
hurricane on the 11 pm advisory.

Sustained tropical storm-force winds are occurring over the lower Florida Keys... and are now within 40 miles of the Southwestern Florida Coast.

Tornado warning for Key West; probably a waterspout ready to come onshore. Serious rain down there.

Title Bar?

Title bar? Title bar? It took me like 5 minutes to figure out what the heck a title bar is.

Okay then. So, the latest news is that if Wilma does in fact land north of SoFla, that means we get the strong side of the storm. Such is the way of the hurricane when it comes it from the Gulf. Heavy rain from Wilma's outer bands is already causing hip-deep flooding in the Fort Lauderdale area, a full two days before Wilma is expected to barrel ashore from the Gulf of Mexico.

Oh joy.

This just in

So, I'm finally back on line after BellSouth shut me off by mistake. What a pain that was, it took nearly 24 hours to get the button pushed or the switch thrown to restore my service, and that was on an expedited basis.

The bad news is that Wilma is still expected to head into Florida, but the good news for me is that Wilma is now believed to be heading a little further north. I have lots of friends further north though, so I am relieved as well as worried.

Still, they don't really know where she'll go and no matter where in Florida she lands, she's big enough to cause us problems here. South Florida updates can be found here, here, and here, if you're interested.

I'll be at O'Malley's on Hollywood Beach tonight, having mudslides and watching the ocean. Such is life in SoFla.

Its been two hundred and sixty days since John Kerry promised to sign his 180 and yes, that's one hundred and forty-one days longer than Kerry "served" in Vietnam.

MR. RUSSERT: Would you sign Form 180?

SEN. KERRY: Yes, I will.

And yet... During an interview with the Boston Globe, Kerry was asked if he had signed Form SF 180, authorizing the Department of Defense to grant access to all his military records. And Kerry said...

"I have signed it," Kerry said. Then, he added that his staff was "still going through it" and "very, very shortly, you will have a chance to see it."

Well, I'd like to see your signed 180 John, show it to me. Show me that you allowed for full disclosure, John. Show me that you checked the box for an "undeleted report of separation," John, and not the one that deletes that information.

Did you release all of your records John, or did you keep some secret? Of course you did John, of course you did.

Yes, two hundred and sixty three days later, Kerry's 180 is still MIA and all over America a cry has gone out - a cry that has fallen on deaf ears.

Come on John. The Globe says the records you authorized to be released were pretty much the same ones they already had. The Navy said they had over 100 pages they could not release without your authorization.

Inquiring minds want to know, John, what type of discharge did you get, John, and how did that discharge change after Carter pardoned all draft dodgers and traitors to this country?

It's been one hundred thirty-seven days since you said you signed it John Kerry, one hundred thirty-two days since you said we could see it. We want to see it, John. Where is your 180?? Show it to us.

Uh oh...

MIAMI -- Forecasters expect Tropical Storm Wilma to become "an intense hurricane," which could end up threatening the Gulf Coast, with winds of more than 110 mph.

Wilma's top sustained winds are now 70 mph. The storm is spinning south of the Cayman Islands in the northwestern Caribbean, but it hasn't moved much in the past few hours. It's eventually expected to gradually turn to the west and northwest.

New models place the storm closer to western Cuba than Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula by Friday. The storm is forecast to then turn sharply in the Gulf of Mexico toward Florida.

Where is Ron Arad?

Ron Arad was born on May 5, 1958 in Israel. He is the son of Batya and the late Dov Arad, and is the oldest of their three sons. Arad, an air-force navigator in an F-4 Phantom jet, had just completed his first year of chemical engineering at The Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa when he was called up for reserve duty.

On October 16, 1986, while on a mission over southern Lebanon, Lieutenant Colonel Ron Arad and his pilot were forced to parachute out of their Phantom jet due to a technical problem. While the pilot was rescued in a daring helicopter raid, Arad fell captive to terrorists belonging to the Amal organization.

About a year after his capture, Israel received photographs and letters from Arad’s captors.

Mustafa Dirani, the Amal security chief who allegedly captured Ron Arad when his plane crashed in Lebanon, reportedly broke away from the terrorist group in 1987, taking Arad with him. It is believed that Dirani then "sold" Arad to either Hizbullah or Iranian elements.

According to Israeli newspaper Yediot Aharonot, as recently as 2003, three former Iranian diplomats and intelligence officials living in Europe claimed that Ron Arad is alive and being held in a prison near Tehran.

These reports cannot be verified.

One of them claimed that Arad was being held in a secret, heavily-guard prison near Tehran in the late 1990's. He claimed that he had access to Arad's files, saw Arad several times, and even exchanged words with him.

According to this Iranian, Arad tried to escape from his captivity while in Lebanon and was shot and wounded by his guards. He claims that in mid 1994, Arad was transferred via Syria to Iran. He claims that before being transferred, Arad underwent an operation to paralyze his legs in order to prevent him from escaping, and that as a result, Arad is confined to a wheelchair. He also claimed that Arad was hospitalized twice for heart problems.

Twenty years later, we know nothing about the fate of Ron Arad.

Or do we?

Nick Berg's body was found decapitated on May 8, 2004 on a Baghdad overpass by a U.S. military patrol. Berg's family was informed of his death on May 10. Military sources stated publicly at that time that Berg's body showed "signs of trauma", but did not disclose that he had been decapitated.

On May 11, 2004, the website of the militant Islamist group Muntada al-Ansar [6] allegedly broadcast a video with the opening title of "Abu Musa'b al-Zarqawi slaughters an American", which supposedly shows Berg being decapitated.

Is Nick Berg dead? Yes, and likely beheaded afterwards, but is the man seen in the beheading video Nick Berg?

Journalist Jamie Francis of the St. Petersburg Times ran into Nick at a gym in Baghdad's old Jewish quarter less than a month before this video was released. Nick was a regular at the gym and well known by its owner. Francis described Nick's ivory skin and thin red beard, adding that Nick looked the part of a construction worker, and spoke of Nick's muscular build.

The victim in the video does not have ivory skin or a red beard, he is not muscular at all, is much smaller than Nick Berg and he looks nothing like Nick Berg. However, he does look a lot like Ron Arad.

Question: How do you know an islamist is lying?

Answer: His lips are moving.

The victim in the video did not stand up or even move his legs through anything that was happening. He sat on the floor, legs bent at the knees. When they flipped him over sideways, his legs did not move, the body just fell onto the floor. This lead some to believe that the victim was heavily sedated, however, this is consistent with reports that Arad had been disabled to prevent escape.

The quality of the movie is not consistent with today's technology, and voice-overs cannot be confirmed. The sound could easily have beed dubbed over. Despite the lies perpetuated by CNN, the voice over on the video has been confirmed as Zarqawi.

Coincidentally, Arad was in news at the time of the release of the beheading video. His remains were being used as a negotiation tool by Hezbullah, who were seeking an exchange of live terrorists for his remains. Israeli intelligence and defense officials have said that another purpose of the recent spate of media reports on Arad is to try to remove Iran from the picture. Hezbullah of course is Iran's hit squad.

The same day the execution video was posted on the internet, Hezbullah announced they had located Ron Arad's grave in Lebanon. A short time later, they handed over a piece of bone supposedly that of Ron Arad's. The bone was proved to be fake a few days later.

I don't believe in coincidence. Remember, these are the same people who released photos of a toy marine, claiming to have captured another member of the U.S. Military.

I believe Nick Berg is dead, I believe that Ron Arad is dead. What I do not believe is that Nick Berg was the man in the video, I believe that man was Ron Arad. I believe the video was made years ago, and withheld to be released at an opportune time. I believe that eventually, it was decided that a "Ron Arad" beheading was less valuable than a "Nick Berg" beheading and that the timing of the release of the video was a "crime of opportunity." As Moshe Dyan once said, "The Arabs will never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity."

I am not alone in my beliefs. You may look at the pictures, look at the video and draw your conclusion.

We may never know the truth behind the video.

When I think about Nick Berg and Ron Arad, I cannot help but think of Johnny "Mike" Spann who was attacked by a mob of Islamist prisoners and beaten to death, his body full of bites as though animals had been tearing at his flesh.

We're in trouble now!

The situation in Iraq is likely become a quagmire now that Norway is going to abandon the effort:

Norway: Incoming gov't to pull troops from Iraq

The left-leaning coalition preparing to form Norway's next government said Thursday it plans to withdraw Norwegian troops from Iraq and from US-led operations in Afghanistan.

The Nordic country has 20 soldiers in Iraq, 10 serving in staff-officer positions within the British and Polish contingents, and 10 involved in training Iraqi forces.

Of course, this news leaves us with the question: "How will we succeed in Iraq without the support of 10 Nordic paper pushers and 10 Nordic teachers?" < /sarcasm>

The KFOR soldiers from Norbataljonen did have one shining moment in the War on Terror, although the soldiers responsible have since left the army:

"... the intent of the song was to mock my own country for its bullying ways around the world. The idea was to point out how casually the US plays World Police. The song takes on the persona of the US government, ridiculing the fact that we push others around without much concern. It is satire, which some have mistaken for literal propoganda. It was meant to be heard in the US and cause a US citizen to realize of how stupid our actions sound when put to music."

Thanks for sharing Bob, you'll be happy to know that others share your thoughts about America, others such as Osama Bin Laden, and I'm sure he appreciates your efforts.

No Coincidence Here


Bomb squad officers on the Ga. Tech campus

Three explosive devices found in a courtyard between two Georgia Tech dormitories on the East Campus Monday morning were part of a "terrorist act," an Atlanta police official said.

One of the devices exploded, injuring the custodian who found them inside a plastic bag. Two others were detonated by a bomb squad.

An explosive device was detonated by the Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad outside of 527 Midvale Ave. on Friday afternoon.

A calm and quiet Westwood was briefly disrupted Friday afternoon when the Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad inspected and detonated an explosive device found within the Midvale Plaza apartment complex on the 500 block of Midvale Avenue.

After responding to a call made at 11:13 a.m., the bomb squad arrived at 527 Midvale Ave. to find "an improvised explosive device" in the building's open-air courtyard, said Grace Brady, a spokeswoman for the LAPD.

No injuries were reported, but authorities have been slow to release details about the incident and the device.

Residents said they first heard a small explosion sometime between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. Friday, but most said they went back to sleep. It was not until a resident found an explosive device later that morning that the police were called.

Later, he was credited for doing what he did not do for Columbus was not the first to discover America, nor was he the first European to land at America. In fact, that Columbus never even saw North America.

However, Columbus was the first to exploit, enslave and slaughter the Arawak Indians of Haiti, and syphilis was introduced into Europe by his crew.

So. A democrat for sure!

What a Coincidence!

So. I've read the tiny bit of news out there about what happened at the Sooners game, and I've read the massive amount of commentary available on the internet.

End result: It is simply beyond my comprehension that the "authorities" expect us to believe that what happened was anything other than a domestic terrorist "work accident." It seems obvious that Hinrichs, having been scared away from entering the stadium by bag searches, was waiting for the wave of people exiting to hit the streets. Something went boom too soon.

The FBI continues to claim that there is nothing to see, that this was only a depressed student who committed suicide and who had no ties to terrorism. As if its an everyday event when someone commits suicide outside a packed football stadium with the very same unstable mix used by the terrorists to blow up infidels. Really, how many suicides blow themselves up?

Must be a coincidence that Hinrich had the same material that the Shoe Bomber used.

Must be a coincidence that there was jihadist material from a mosque, and the same mosque attended by Zaccharias Mossoui (the 20th hijacker who missed flight 93).

Must be a coincidence that Hinrich knew the same Mullah who counseled some of the 9/11 hijackers to keep their focus on the murder of infidels in the World Trade Center.

Must be a coincidence huh, like the refinery in Texas where there were five difference explosions in five different places but, there was no terrorism happening there either?

Must be a coincidence, like the concourse at MIA that was shut down because hundreds of people were getting violently sick, and later the news said it was a "cleaning fluid spill." Never had a cleaning spill do that before, but still, it was no big deal, unless you know that the same thing happened in Texas, on the same day and at the same hour.

Oh well. 

On one level, I can understand that we need to keep people calm. But on another level, maybe if people knew that there were dangers, that there are threats, that we are truly at war, this country might be in a better position to fight. 

But then again, what do I know about such things?

I am being told that bomb squad's actions at the Miami game on the same night as Hinrich's "suicide" is a coincidence too, that the bag they blew up outside of the Orange Bowl contained nothing but some clothing.

I believe it. Don't you?

Signs like this one have been posted in all the Iraqi Army compound port-a-potties. Initially there were no signs, but over a short period of time, it was determined something had to be done.

Move along, Nothing to see here...

I was tailgating at the Miami Hurricanes game last night and the bomb squad showed up. Seems someone left a black duffel bag just outside of one of the tents, on the sidewalk across from where we were parked. They herded us away from our vehicles.

The squad's robot dragged the bag away, and then they blew it up in the parking lot. We thought it was all good fun, cheering and applauding afterwards.

Surprisingly, I found nothing in the news about it however, there is this:

One person was killed in an explosion near a packed football stadium at the University of Oklahoma on Saturday night in what authorities said appeared to be a suicide.

The article goes on to say:

A police bomb squad detonated explosives found at the site of the blast. The area near the stadium was searched by bomb-sniffing dogs.

The FBI tells us that there is nothing to worry about.

Of course, unless you were at the Miami game, and in the same lot as we were or the one right next to us, you would never know about the Miami explosion.

Well, I was there. and I don't believe in coincidence.

First Female Airman Casualty In The War On Terror In Iraq

Airman 1st Class Elizabeth Jacobson was providing convoy security Sept. 28 near Camp Bucca, Iraq, when the vehicle she was riding in was hit by an improvised explosive device.

"We're only on earth for a little while, so live life to the fullest and carry a smile." -- Airman 1st Class Elizabeth Jacobson

Airman Jacobson was raised in California, but lived here in South Florida before joining the Air Force. The Palm Beach Post tells us:

In Iraq, she was a security guard, surveying military perimeters from elevated guard towers. But relatives say the 21-year-old volunteered for a more risky assignment guarding convoys, a job that would ultimately kill her.

On Wednesday she died outside the Iraqi city of Safwan when a bomb exploded near her convoy, making her the ninth Iraq casualty from Palm Beach County or the Treasure Coast. Her death hit hard with relatives, even as they spoke with pride about her decision to leave behind the relative safety of guard towers for perilous duty on the open Iraqi roads.

"She could have stayed there, but she was trained to do convoy duty and asked to do that," said her stepmother, Alison Jacobson. "I think it speaks to her bravery."

A fellow member of the Air Force Security Forces, Slaglerock tells us that Airman First Class Jacobson is the first female Airman casualty in the War on Terror in Iraq he has respectfully requested a link to his post and a show respect and support for the family of this brave young woman lost in combat.

My heart is with the family of this brave and honorable young woman, who gave her all in service to this country.
