From one year ago today...
Are Gasoline Prices High?
In 1950, a gallon of regular gasoline sold for about 30 cents; today, it's $2.50. Are today's gasoline prices high compared to 1950? Before answering that question, we have to take into account inflation that has occurred since 1950. Using my trusty inflation calculator (www.westegg.com/inflation), what cost 30 cents in 1950 costs $2.33 in 2005. In real terms, that means gasoline prices today are only slightly higher, about 8 percent, than they were in 1950. Up until the recent spike, gasoline prices have been considerably lower than 1950 prices.
According to the Fed, applying inflation from 1950, gas prices in 2006 should be about $2.52:
The news is that gas prices have come down, but not everywhere. The Exxon around the corner from my house is charging $3.16 for mid-grade. Ten miles away, I saw a Shell station at $2.74 for mid-grade. Four blocks from my office, the Shell was charging $3.35 for mid-grade. We're talking an 18 mile spread with prices varying as much as 61 cents.
My last fill up was Tuesday night, right before Ernesto was supposed to visit. I paid $2.94.

A small Canadian university has sparked controversy with its recruitment drive by using posters and a website mocking US President George W Bush.

Lakehead University in northern Ontario set up www.yaleshmale.com in a bid to attract potential new students.
"There are universities and then there are universities. So let's not beat around the bush," it says.
It shows a picture of Yale graduate Mr Bush with the caption: "Graduating from an Ivy League university doesn't necessarily mean you're smart."
"It was literally a tongue-in-cheek way of getting attention," university president and vice-chancellor Frederick Gilbert told Reuters news agency.
The website had received more than 7,000 hits, he said on Monday, and online comments had been 95% positive.
But he acknowledged the university had received e-mails which were "running in the opposite direction", which was a concern.
"Older generations" and some of Lakehead's students considered the campaign inappropriate, he said.
The university would not retract its campaign, however, although it would try to respond to individual concerns, he said.
Student union president Isabelle Poniatowski told Reuters the campaign was low-brow and lacked class.
"It still strikes me as being very repugnant," she said. "Lakehead has so many positive attributes that you could really sell to people that live down south."
Sorry, but I think its kinda funny, in a "canadian" sort of way and, if attendance is down, well, it really will be Bush's fault. I'd really like to have one of those posters, if anyone is inclined to send me one.

Jihad comes to San Fran
As many as 14 people were injured this afternoon by a motorist who drove around San Francisco running them down before he was arrested, authorities said.
In San Francisco, the attacks began around 1 p.m., but it was unclear in what order:
• Two people, one of them a child, were critically injured around by a sport-utility vehicle on the 3500 block of California Street in Laurel Heights.
• Three people were hit at California and Fillmore streets. Witnesses said they included a man with a broken hip and a woman with a gashed head.
• Two people were seriously hurt at Bush and Pierce streets and one person was seriously injured at Bush and Buchanan streets, police said. One person suffered minor injuries in an incident at 1850 Fillmore Street.
• Two other people suffered minor injuries when they were hit at Pine at Divisadero streets, and another two were hit and suffered minor injuries at Divisadero and Bush Street.
Authorities believe the same suspect struck and killed a pedestrian in Fremont earlier today. That victim was walking north on Fremont Boulevard in the bicycle lane when he was struck from behind and knocked several feet into a field, Fremont Officer Alan Zambonin said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. The black SUV, a Honda described as a Pilot or a CRV, made no attempt to stop or help the victim, police said.
Who would do such a thing?
Authorities have identified the man who was arrested as Ohmeed Aziz Popal.
Ohmeed huh? hmmm.... lemme take a wild guess...
UPDATE: Darleen tells us that on the Hugh Hewitt show, callers from the area are saying the area the driver targeted is heavily Jewish and that one victim was run over right in front of the Jewish Community Center.
The MSM is not reporting that part.
Its true, its just not safe to be Jewish in the United States anymore and no one wants to admit it.

10:55 pm Update: All hurricane watches are canceled. Ernesto is a "mediocre" storm, Max is baffled and I'm going to sleep!
6:00 pm Update: Looks like Ernie is gonna be a dud for Florida. Yay!

I'm about under the "a" in Miami. Unless it jiggles east again, it shouldn't be too bad here.

Here comes Ernie
The first three gas stations I stopped at last nite were out of gas. Finally filled up after waiting in line for about 40 minutes. I pretty much have everything I need except for batteries and some Mike's Hard. I know I can find the Hard, the batteries may be a problem. Oh well.
Ernie left Cuba as a tropical storm with winds at 40 mph, but they expect he will almost double in strength to about 75-80 mph before he makes landfall in Florida sometime late tonight. He's up to 45 mph now. He should hit us here sometime after midnight tonight, with winds at about 75 mph. He'll either be a strong tropical storm or a weak hurricane.
Yep, that's me at the red dot there. The timing of the landfall is based on the eye of the storm, it'll get pretty windy here long before the eye gets here. The fun should begin sometime early afternoon and it'll last until sometime late Wednesday.
It's 6:45 am here in not-so-sunny South Florida and I just heard on the radio that the first feeder bands have rolled across Key West. Its pretty outside, all these reddish orange/pink clouds spread out across the sky, reminds me of the old saying... red sky at night, sailor's delight, red sky at morn, sailors be warned. I have to run in to the office and do a little hurricane preparation there, I hope to be home and hunkered down by noon. My internet gets spotty when it rains, but I'll post when I can. Think happy thoughts!
And what's the matter with you Vinnie, two birds ain't enough???? Thanks for your concern though brother!

That's me, and South Florida is now under a hurricane watch. At 5 am, Ernesto had maximum sustained winds of 50 mph and was located 529 miles southeast of Miami. It was moving northwest at 12 mph with gusts at 63 mph.

Some Brevard County residents are taking issue with a comment made by a county commissioner during a zoning meeting.
County Commissioner Ron Pritchard told a resident to "get a gun" to deal with trespassers on his property.
Environmental groups had just shown video of trees, which were illegally chopped down, and commissioners were questioning whether they had trespassed to get the video.
Pritchard said he was joking.
The Republican Merritt Island resident is running for re-election.
Florida Republicans are just so special.

A Blender?
Man claiming to be terrorist leads police on high speed chase
OCEAN CITY — A West Virginia man claiming he was Osama Bin Laden led police on a high speed chase before he ultimately crashed into other vehicles, police said.
The terrorist act of choice for Tena Bergeno, 26, of Charleston, W.Va., was threatening by drink blender, according to reports. Bergeno brandished a blender at police on Coastal Highway near 37th Street at the end of a high speed car chase today at around 10 a.m., police said.
The story started Monday when Bergeno claimed he was Osama Bin Laden to a police officer, which the officer responded to by having him evaluated at Atlantic General Hospital. Bergeno was eventually released, according to reports.Police said Bergeno was acting strangely at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday morning, and he jumped into a car at First Street and sped off when police tried to stop him.
Bergeno ran a red light at Second Street, almost hitting two cars, then plowed through three cars at a red light at 36th Street before his car became disabled and police surrounded him, according to reports.
After disarming Bergeno of his blender, the suspect was charged with fleeing and eluding, hit and run, second-degree assault and minor traffic charges, police said.
Bergeno is currently at Peninsula Regional Medical Center undergoing psychiatric evaluation, police said.

The 30-year-old man was in line at a 7-Eleven, 2175 E. 9400 South, just before 8 p.m. When he got to the counter he asked the female clerk for a carton of cigarettes, said Sandy Police Sgt. Victor Quezada. But after he received them he walked out without paying, Quezada said.The clerk told another female clerk who followed him outside the doors and told him to stop.
Instead, the man turned around and punched the clerk in the face, Quezada said.
James Sjostrom was standing in line right behind the man who took the cigarettes and saw the entire thing unfold.
"He just turned and clocked her," Sjostrom said. "He pounded her face. It was pretty vicious."
That's when Sjostrom went after the man who assaulted the store clerk.
and then it got ugly for our would-be-robber:
Sjostrom is a former Marine who taught hand-to-hand combat and currently teaches a course on Russian kettlebells, or the martial art of strength training, at the Sports Mall in Murray.
"I grabbed him, threw him on the ground, put his hands behind his back, sat on him and waited for the cops to come," Sjostrom said.
In just a matter of a few seconds Sjostrom had the man pinned. When the man realized he had no chance, Sjostrom said he became "pretty quiet."
"Anybody would have done the same thing," he said. "Another guy in the store said he was in the Army and asked if I needed any help."

With a grin, Sjostrom replied to the man, "The Marines got here first."
Sigh. Be still my heart...

On September 11, 2006, 2,996 volunteer bloggers will join together for a tribute to the victims of 9/11. Each person will pay tribute to a single victim.
We will honor them by remembering their lives, and not by remembering their murderers.

Q&A With Sir Banagor

To tell the truth, the answer is no.
The last month has provided the answers for all to see: we are going to lose this war. I say “we” as in “the West”. We don’t have what it takes. I wrote that Bin Laden is right: we are a paper tiger. Nothing so far has shown otherwise. Nothing that the West has done has changed that perception. We go to “war”, but it is really a police action which is doomed to failure. War is not what we have seen in Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Gaza, or anything else. War - real war - on a global scale is not being fought by the West. Five years after 9/11, we have nothing to show for our convictions because we have no convictions.
So we are doomed to fail. The last month has convinced me of this.
That's by Sir Banagor, now go ahead and read the rest. Then read this. and then, tell me what you think.
I'll tell you what I think, and I've said this before, many times and many ways:
Nothing less than the death or enslavement of every single American will ever satisfy Islamists. That is their stated goal but no one seems to be listening. This is not new and it has nothing to do with anything that happened today, or yesterday, or last week, or last month, or last year. It has nothing to do with Israel. It is what it is.
The name of the enemy is Islam and the name of the war is Jihad.
I fear Sir Banagor is right and that we will lose. The fact is that we are losing right here, in the streets of America.
The democrats want to surrender. Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry, John Murtha, they all want to give up, and let Jihad have its way. Jihad in America is led by CAIR, who is aided and abetted by the judges who sit on the bench, the ACLU, ANSWER, UFPJ and every moonbat that ever held up a "peace at any price" sign on a street corner. They are killing our people all over the world, and they using our justice system at home to beat us.
Jihadists blow up our soldiers, kill women and children and these lunatics support them. Jihadists chant Death to America and these lunatics sing kumbaya. Code Pink sends them money. This past month we saw millions of Americans hit the streets in support of one of the most notorious and bloodthirsty terrorist organizations we have ever known, an organization responsible for the deaths of 241 peacekeepers in Beruit, our embassies, plane hijackings. Hezbollah is responsible for murder and mayhem around the world and this month, America gave it support. We are building a memorail in Pennsylvnia that honors the dead of 9/11, but the design does not honor Americans who died trying to foil their evil plot to kill innocent people. Oh no, its shaped as a red crescent, it points towards mecca and it honors the islamic jihadists who killed our people.
The mainstream media publishes fraudulent news stories complete with staged photographs to generate sympathy and compassion for the enemy. The New York Times gives them our secrets and tells them how to get around our investigations as we try to stop them from killing us. Americans travel to the front lines of the war, to protect the terrorists with their very lives and when they are killed, they blame America or Israel.
These lunatic liberals have chosen to give their support to islamic jihad. In doing so, they have chosen to embrace a monster the likes of which they are unable to comprehend.
They have no idea what the consequences of their actions will be in the future, because September 11, 2001 was nothing but a small part of the islamic agenda to cleanse all lands of all kufirs, infidels and jews, and to rule those lands according to islamic law. What happens is Israel is also but a small part in the agenda. The islamic agenda is to wipe out every culture, every religion, and for islam to rule the world.
If the islamic agenda is successful, the future might not be to their liking. Today, they are free to support terrorism, spread lies and sow dissention only because there are those today who fight the good fight to defend them. Because of the efforts of the brave men and women who serve in the United States Military, perhaps the islamic agenda will not be successful in this lifetime. They may sleep well and warm in their beds tonight, and enjoy a lifetime of indolence and indifference.
They do not consider the legacy they will leave behind for their children and their children's children.
If the islamic agenda is successful, it will be because of the actions of the media and the war protestors. In the end, they will sentence America to suffer under the very same monster they embrace today.
If their actions today bear fruit tomorrow, it is future Americans who will suffer under islamic law. As they suffer, surely they will curse the names and the memory of those who turned their face from the truth and embraced the lie.
Indeed, if their actions bear fruit tomorrow, future Americans will surely curse the memory of all those who choose to bow their head and look the other way, those who today support terrorism and nurture the beast.
As long as there is breath in my body, I will continue to fight the enemy in any and every way I can. But is it too late to win?

Northwest Flight 327 Revisited
Most of us read about it back in 2004, Annie Jacobson's fearful flight from Detroit to Los Angeles with a pack of middle eastern men who behaved suspiciously and terrorized not only the passengers, but also the flight attendants and the pilot:
The man in the yellow T-shirt got out of his seat and went to the lavatory at the front of coach -- taking his full McDonald's bag with him. When he came out of the lavatory he still had the McDonald's bag, but it was now almost empty. He walked down the aisle to the back of the plane, still holding the bag. When he passed two of the men sitting mid-cabin, he gave a thumbs-up sign. When he returned to his seat, he no longer had the McDonald's bag.
Then another man from the group stood up and took something from his carry-on in the overhead bin. It was about a foot long and was rolled in cloth. He headed toward the back of the cabin with the object. Five minutes later, several more of the Middle Eastern men began using the forward lavatory consecutively. In the back, several of the men stood up and used the back lavatory consecutively as well.
For the next hour, the men congregated in groups of two and three at the back of the plane for varying periods of time. Meanwhile, in the first class cabin, just a foot or so from the cockpit door, the man with the dark suit - still wearing sunglasses - was also standing. Not one of the flight crew members suggested that any of these men take their seats.
When Annie's husband talked to the flight attendant... "the flight attendant pulled him into the galley. In a quiet voice she explained that they were all concerned about what was going on. The captain was aware. The flight attendants were passing notes to each other. She said that there were people on board 'higher up than you and me watching the men.'"
About 20 minutes later the same flight attendant returned. Leaning over and whispering, she asked my husband to write a description of the yellow-shirted man sitting across from us. She explained it would look too suspicious if she wrote the information. She asked my husband to slip the note to her when he was done.
After seeing 14 Middle Eastern men board separately (six together, eight individually) and then act as a group, watching their unusual glances, observing their bizarre bathroom activities, watching them congregate in small groups, knowing that the flight attendants and the pilots were seriously concerned, and now knowing that federal air marshals were on board, I was officially terrified.
I would have felt the same way, in fact, I was terrified just reading it, even knowing that the plane landed safely. But, before the plane landed...
Suddenly, seven of the men stood up -- in unison -- and walked to the front and back lavatories. One by one, they went into the two lavatories, each spending about four minutes inside. Right in front of us, two men stood up against the emergency exit door, waiting for the lavatory to become available. The men spoke in Arabic among themselves and to the man in the yellow shirt sitting nearby. One of the men took his camera into the lavatory. Another took his cell phone. Again, no one approached the men. Not one of the flight attendants asked them to sit down. I watched as the man in the yellow shirt, still in his seat, reached inside his shirt and pulled out a small red book. He read a few pages, then put the book back inside his shirt. He pulled the book out again, read a page or two more, and put it back. He continued to do this several more times.
In the end, nothing happened:
The last man came out of the bathroom, and as he passed the man in the yellow shirt he ran his forefinger across his neck and mouthed the word "No."
The plane landed.
Federal Marshals swarmed the plane, passengers and crew were questioned. The rest of the world scoffed. Northwest denied there was an incident. The victims became the accused, Annie Jacobson was considered a hysterical, paranoid racist. But not anymore. Homeland Security paid Annie a visit...
"... while one arm of the government (the Federal Air Marshal Service) has vehemently maintained all along that "nothing happened on flight 327," the other, more muscular arm (the Department of Homeland Security) has been conducting a rather large investigation about it."
It turns out the traveling "musicians" on their way to a gig had nothing with them to make music with. Two months prior, there was a credible warning issued about terrorists traveling under "P class visas (sports and culture), and that's just what these men had, except, their visas were expired. Despite the fact that they were from Syria, which is a terrorist nation, no one looked close enough to discover that their visas were expired, and only two of the fourteen were questioned pre-flight, that breaks all of the rules. Despite the presence of Federal Marshals all over the airport when the plane landed, the men were allowed to leave without being searched or questioned. These men had been flying back and forth across the country several times using one-way tickets, for which they paid cash.
The agents who sat with me all morning going over the events of flight 327 seemed sincerely committed to getting to the bottom of what happened on that flight. It seemed obvious that they believe something happened. Was it a probe? A dry run? A training exercise or an intelligence gathering mission? My sense is that the jury's still out on a hard and fast answer. But flight 327 was far from a situation involving 13 hapless Syrian musicians and a case of bad behavior.
Read the whole thing now, and the next time you feel like complaining about airport security and carrying your lipstick, read it again.
And to all of you who scoffed for whatever reason... hmph.

Guard the Borders Blogburst

For a long time here at GTB, we have focused on the tsunami of humanity that flows over our southern border from Mexico. Mexicans, by far, are the largest group of illegals inside our borders, and their open agenda of Reconquista has place tax-funded groups like La Raza, MEChA, and LULAC under the microscope. We've also covered the alarming news of the number of Middle Easterners who take full advantage of our unguarded borders to infiltrate our country, paying coyotes tens of thousands of dollars to allow them to blend in with herds of illegals crossing the border. Once inside the country, they disperse and fade away into our society.
Lately, focus has shifted from clandestine border crossings to blatant visa violations as the FBI hunted and captured 11 Egyptian men who entered the country under false pretenses. Such visa violations (including overstaying visa expirations) are not unusual for Middle Easterners, particularly from Pakistan, Yemen, Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon, etc., but we Americans are rarely aware of them. Chechens are also making concerted efforts to get into the country illegally, despite the generous visa allowances for their country.
Today, I'd like to examine our broken immigration process in the light of the current war in the Middle East. To that end, I'd like you to reference this column by Investor's Business Daily.
Why Borders MatterAug 09 06
The war in Lebanon is an object lesson in border protection. Hezbollah secretly beefed up its forces there as Israel lowered its northern guard. Then Hezbollah attacked. We should take note.
Lest Americans think this is "Israel's war," it's worth repeating that it was Hezbollah that bombed the U.S. Embassy and Marine barracks in Lebanon, killing some 250 Americans. Hezbollah also kidnapped Americans Terry Anderson and Beirut CIA Station Chief William Buckley. Buckley died in captivity with nine others. Some of the masterminds are still at large.
Hezbollah (Party of Allah) is not just a faraway threat. Its leaders have infiltrated the U.S. by breaching our own porous borders.
No matter where you stand on the war in the Middle East, it is not safe or prudent for Americans to be vulnerable - on their own soil - to the volatile agenda of sworn enemies of the United States. Our lax immigration system lets potential enemies slip through all the time, and the recent nationwide scramble to find 11 supposedly harmless Egyptians proves that.
With Hezbollah trying to infiltrate America, and teams of suspicious young men entering the U.S. under false pretenses, it's time to put more teeth in the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System that requires young men from the Middle East who arrived after 9-11 to check in with immigration officials during their stays — not kill the program, as some in Washington have proposed.
The IBD article ends with a clear call to action. There is no reason why our national security ought to be compromised on the altar of political correctness. With enemies at our gates, we shouldn’t be forced to swing them wide to prove how kind and inclusive we are. There are already more than enough "tourists", "students", and "temporary residents" from the Middle East inside our borders with nefarious purposes; it's time we clamped down on their access to our people. While the demand for more teeth in the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System is appropriate, perhaps we also need to consider reviewing and revoking the visas of others who we know support Hezbollah, Hamas, or al Qaeda. Those people shouldn't be too hard to find, even for an inept ICE and INS - they are marching in the streets proclaiming their loyalty to our enemies on a daily basis!

8 Ways to Kill Someone
with an Ipod?
Why would you ever need to do this? Well, we aren't exactly sure. But there is likely a situation somewhere in the world where a person who only has a nano on them and needs to defend themselves against an attacker. This strange guide was written by Ret. Marine, Brad Collom.
My favorites:
1. Break it in half with your hands (very easy to do) and use the glass viewing screen's broken edge as a razorblade to slice the jugular when they are looking the other way.
2. Take off one sock (a dress or tube sock; pantyhose will work in a pinch), place the Nano in the sock, swing it around as fast as you can (being careful to not hit yourself), and whack the intended target right on the temple.
5. Dig a pit about 5 feet deep, then take about 15 3-foot-long stakes 2 inches in diameter and sharpen one end to a fine point, like a very sharp pencil. Jam the sticks at least a foot into the ground, with the sharp ends pointing up. Cover the hole with pine boughs, grass, and leaves. Treat the Nano like a slice of cheese pizza in a deep, hot oven and place it gently in the middle.
6. Carefully unstaple a tea bag and pour the contents on a plate. Break into the lithium-ion battery pack and saturate the tea with the battery's poison, then dry the tea in the sun (or with a hair dryer if you are in a hurry). Put tea back in tea bag and bend the staple back to its original position. Put the tea bag back where you got it.
7. Download to the Nano "We've Only Just Begun" by the Carpenters. Tell someone you will give him or her your Nano if they listen to that song a hundred times in a row.

Just 4 hours after a UN brokered Israel Lebanon ceasefire was to take affect, the terror organization Hezbollah attacked an IDF force in south Lebanon.
"A group of armed Hezbollah terrorists approached an IDF force in the south Lebanon village of Hadatha," an Israel Defense Forces spokesperson told the Israel News Agency.
"The IDF force took defensive positions, requested that they lay their arms down, fired warning shots and then fired at the approaching Hezbollah terrorists. The firefight occurs over a short period of time. No IDF injuries were reported."
In accepting UN Resolution 1701 for which both the Lebanon and Israel governments accepted, Israel maintained the right to defend herself. As such, the 40,000 IDF troops now operating on the Lebanon Israel border will continue to "neutralize" all areas between the Israel border and the Litani river of Hezbollah terrorists.
Hezbollah has refused to lay their weapons down. This has created a schism between Hezbollah and the Lebanon government which is waiting to deploy their army and open humanitarian aid to south Lebanon.
A tense Mayor of northern Israel, Shlomo Buhbut was briefed by Minister of Infrastructure Binyamin Ben Eliezer who had come to assess damage. Buhbut was a Labor Knesset Member during the Oslo years, between 1992-1996. Today he tells Ben Eliezer to go back to Jerusalem and tell Prime Minister Olmert that the Forum of Mayors of Northern Cities demands that there be no cessation of the campaign to rid the area of Hezbollah.
"We need to eradicate them. They're an obstacle to peace," Buhbut asserts. Ben Eliezer responds with fighting words. "We're not going to let Nasrallah play games with us any more. If anyone will dare touch our people on this side of the border we'll destroy them, and they'll be responsible. There's no moderation," the minister asserts. "Nasrallah thinks he can control the life of people in the Middle East. No more."
Ben Eliezer tells us that there's interaction between Hezbollah and every terrorist group in the world, and leaves no doubt that he has little hope of anything positive coming from the idea of leaving the Lebanese Army in control of southern Lebanon. "They're under the control of Hezbollah. They're Hezbollah in uniform," he concludes.

In this way, they were planning to take advantage of the death of innocents and curtail the negotiation initiative," the site stated.
... "There were 15 physically or mentally handicapped children among the children killed in Qana," said Bahia Hariri, who represents south Lebanon.

"The probability that the families in the building had several multiply-handicapped children, that all of these children had been killed, and that all of the publicized photographs would show precisely these children, is the probability of winning the lottery. On the other hand, the probability that members of Hezbollah scored a two-for-one by relieving themselves of their burdens while playing the innocent victims seems much more credible to me."

Now we have UN Resolution 1701 which calls for the implementation of UN Resolution 1559, which calls for the disarming of Hezbollah. One day we will have another UN Resolution that will call for the implementation of Resolution 1701, which calls for the implementation of Resolution 1559. And so on, and so on, and so on. And, in between Resolutions, more innocent Jewish people will be brutally slaughtered in the State of Israel, and three IDF Soldiers, Gilad Shalit, Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev, will disappear into memory, never to be seen again.

We finished a quiet Sabbath in the relative safety of Jerusalem, only to check the news and find out the heartbreaking news that seven more Israeli soldiers have been killed and eight-four injured in the worst-led war in Israel's history.
In addition, the government who interfered with the military (i.e.go win the war without upsetting CNN and the BBC), imposing guidelines that have helped get not only our boys killed left and right, but our civilians as well, has now decided to accept a Security Council resolution which ensures that Israel's soldiers and her people have made their ultimate sacrifice for nothing: our kidnapped soldiers will not be returned. Hezbollah will not be disarmed. And Israeli forces will be replaced by some U.N. force and a bunch of European anti-Semites who will allow Hezbollah to rearm.
The full text of the resolution has been published in YNET. So far, 1,784 Israelis have responded. The overwhelming majority have this to say:
We went to war to free our kidnapped soldiers. Why aren't they mentioned? For shame. Olmert, Peretz, Halutz, the triumvirate of losers.
Let me add this: Mr. Olmert, Mr. Peretz, Mr. Halutz: You have squandered the lives of our soldiers. You have squandered our opportunity to free the nation of Israel from a deadly enemy. You have set the stage for the next war. By September, we will be under attack once more. Do the decent thing: Resign, all of you, and let Mr. Netanyahu, General Alon (who was kicked out because he refused to go along with the disengagement) take over. Resign Mr. Olmert. Resign in shame for your incompetence. Your inability to carry out a single one of the objectives you so stirringly announced at the beginning of this war. With all of you and your incompetent Kadima-led government out of office, we will all be safer and better prepared when the rockets start to fall once again, as they inevitably will with the U.N. and the French guarding our borders.
And if you won't do the honorable thing, we will do everything we can to get you fired. You make me sick. I am ashamed to be a citizen of my country under your leadership. I am appalled to have a son in the IDF under your leadership. For shame, for shame, for shame!

The doctors initially believed what they were told by her father. You would think a parent's primary concern might be the well being of their child. Not in palestine, where children are nothing but a potential bloody media bite in their goal to destroy Israel. And, of course, no one will make any real effort to get the facts out, so the original accusation will stand against Israel.
This incident leads to one more question: How do you tell a muslim is lying?
The answer is: His lips are moving.

In findings that will frame the sisterhood with collective guilt, one in four women has admitted that she would buy another pair of shoes instead of pay the bills.
In the wardrobe of one in two women there are more than 30 pairs of shoes. The survey, by Harpers Bazaar magazine, finds that 8% of women own more than 100 pairs each. The magazine interviewed 1,000 men and women to find out what women would do to ensure decent footwear. One in 10 of the women surveyed said she had spent more than £1,000 on shoes in the past year. The same number said they would have surgery to improve the "aesthetics" of their feet.
Which might be necessary, since three-quarters of women have ill-fitting shoes - and so much so that more than half the men interviewed said they had had to carry girlfriends with aching feet.
The Harper's Bazaar editor, Lucy Yeomans, said she had been shocked to find women more likely to put their money towards shoes than bills. "Maybe British women are starting to give their French counterparts a run for their money on the style stakes. Trying on shoes is always a pleasure, unlike shopping for some other fashion items, where shape and size come into play. Shoes wield a Cinderella-like transformative power - you can go from demure to seductive in under 60 seconds."
Both sexes find the right shoes a turn on, finds the survey, with stilettoes chosen by men as the sexiest heels and a majority of women saying they had had sex wearing nothing but their shoes.

How would you like to find out your child's identity had been stolen? You of course probably wouldn't know until the child reached adulthood.
Kern found out quite by accident when Hayley's application for the North Carolina Children's Health Insurance Program was initially rejected because her earned income was too high. Hayley is 10 years old. She doesn't have any earned income.Guess the Social Security Administration doesn't look at earned income for 10 year olds or 5 year olds for that matter.
What she learned was that a man, an illegal immigrant in his 20s, had been working under Hayley's Social Security number for the past six years.

Rosario does not speak English. Through an interpreter, Knight learned that when Rosario came to the U.S. from Mexico at age 22, he was told he needed "work papers" to get a job. The working papers acquaintances provided was a Social Security card with Rosario's name and a fraudulent number. He believed the number was the "work papers" that allowed him to work in the U.S. Knight said Rosario was at a loss to understand what he had done wrong.
As much as I'd like to empathize with this Mexican man, I can't. I find it difficult to believe this man has been in the US working for 6 years and is unaware of the political fight going on with illegal aliens in this country. The one consistency with this man though; he has been in this country for 6 years, he can't speak any English and yet has a drivers license and vehicle. I'm surprised he hasn't purchased a home yet!
The mother, Shelly Kern now has the terrible task of trying to clear her childs identity. Clearing your child's name can be just as frustrating and infuriating as clearing an adult's name. Kern said maybe more so. First, she was referred to the regional Social Security Administration office where she was told there was nothing they could do. They sent her to the Employment Security Commission. Neither agency nor the DSS has enforcement powers, so Kern went to the Star Police Department. […] When Kern tried to order a credit report on her daughter, she hit obstacle after obstacle. 0nline, the credit reporting agencies want credit information that her daughter, at age 10, does not have and she cannot get a credit report for Rosario, no matter that the Social Security number is fraudulent. She has appealed to the N.C. Attorney General's Office for assistance.
Apparently this has been happening for years:
The practice of stealing, selling and using Social Security numbers from juveniles began over 20 years ago in southern California and has spread throughout the country. Apparently, the SSNs are obtained through brokers, who are primarily Permanent Legal Residents. The "brokers" physically monitor court house records of newborns, and obtain their birth registry issued SSNs from open public records, or from other Permanent Legal Residents/Naturalized Citizens who are employees of city and county government that have access to tax records.The reason this illegal practice has been relatively successful is that the IRS/SSA doesn't note that one to five year old children shouldn't be working, despite the SSA records that show the age of number holders. Also, ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) is not known for pursuing this line of investigation.

By his words, you shall know him
One of the problems with anti-semitism is that it encourages more anti-semitism. Sadly, the recent Mel Gibson episode has proven that point once again.
In an essay titled "Mel, Poor Mel," the learned Thomas Fleming takes anti-semitism to the next level:
The fact that so many troublemakers of the past 150 years have been of Jewish extraction—Marx, Freud, the Neoconservatives—is certainly no argument in their favor. Jewish “intellectuals” continue to be in the forefront of the movements that aim to destroy our religion and culture.
Well, Mr. Fleming sure showed Mel what anti-semitism really is, didn't he?
Mr. Fleming's rant is published by Chronicle Magazine, and - here's a surprise - Fleming is the editor. Chronicle is owned by The Rockford Institute, a non-profit research institute for which Fleming acts as "agent" and which is funded by... "Foundations, donations, membership fees, sales of publications." On its "website" it claims a budget for the year 2000 in the amount of $900,000. No budgets for any subsequent years are mentioned.
But, at those prices, don't assume that Fleming's learned essays are based upon the extensive research provided by The Rockford Institute. After all, no research by the Rockford Institute is referenced in his anti-semetic rant and in fact, it appears from its website that the Rockford Institute has not done any research for the past five years. It does appear to have sold a lot of books, audio taped lectures and whatnot.
In his essay titled "Bleeding Lebanon," Mr. Fleming insinuates that Israel is a terrorist nation 10 times worse than Hezbollah, based on the fact that not enough Israelis have died yet.
But if Hezbollah’s initial missile strikes were acts of terrorism, so is the much greater Israeli campaign that has so far killed nearly 400 Lebanese, mostly civilians. This is ten times the number of Israelis who have died in the conflict. If sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, that makes Israel ten times more terrorist than Hezbollah.
I guess the crack research team at Rockford somehow failed to uncover all of these deaths, or maybe Fleming was too lazy to inquire. Still, Mr. Fleming is a little more tempered than Mel, who claims "The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world." Fleming only blames the Jews for the war in Iraq:
If there had ever been any doubts that the security of Israel was Bush’s primary motive for invading Iraq, those doubts have been dispelled by his unequivocal support for a war against Lebanese civilians that is being condemned around the world.
Mel was drunk on tequila, and to his credit, he apologized. While there can be no doubt what flavor koolaid Fleming has been drinking, somehow, I don't think an apology will be forthcoming.

Bad Dog!
LONDON -- A guard dog has ripped apart a collection of rare teddy bears, including one once owned by Elvis Presley, during a rampage at a children's museum.
"He just went berserk," said Daniel Medley, general manager of the Wookey Hole Caves near Wells, England, where hundreds of bears were chewed up Tuesday night by the 6-year-old Doberman pinscher named Barney.
Barney ripped the head off a brown stuffed bear once owned by the young Presley during the attack, leaving fluffy stuffing and bits of bears' limbs and heads on the museum floor. The bear, named Mabel, was made in 1909 by the German manufacturer Steiff.
The collection, valued at more than $900,000, included a red bear made by Farnell in 1910 and a Bobby Bruin made by Merrythought in 1936.
Whatever you do, don't tell Chrissie.
