From CNN Readers?
Surprise, surprise!

I found it at Rodger's place, he posted around 6:30 or so. I grabbed this a little after 10:00. In four hours, lots more votes, but the numbers didn't change.

I think most Americans see this as a bad idea.

This really surprises me at CNN, even if it came from Lou Dobbs we site. Maybe, just maybe, the politicians will realize the groundswell against all aspects of this damn immigration bill. Enforcement Yes, Amnesty No!

I've pondered this whole "immigration amnesty" issue for some time. Something really bothers me about it. Yes, my personal opinion is that amnesty is a PREPOSTEROUSLY STUPID idea, particularly considering the numbers of illegals we are dealing with and the moral composition of that population (i.e., the LA Times declaring that 95% of murder warrants are issued for illegals, and that makes my skin crawl). I'd like to pose a question to Linda and her readership.
Remember all those amnesty marches and protests? Hundreds of thousands of people, yada, yada, yada, etc...
Is it only me or do the rest of you get the feeling that the illegal population were making the implied statement that "If you think the LA riots were bad, get a load of THIS group!"
How can so many Republicans and Democrats support such an idea that resonates to loudly with negative consequences to our national security, economy and job market? Are they afraid to come out and state the truth that, were we to reject amnesty and, as I would like to see, round 'em all up and ship 'em all back to (wherever), we'd be opening a can of worms that could explode in our faces?
Are we really facing a viable potential for mass rioting on an unimaginable scale? Is it truly practical that we could catch most of them and send them back (at least the undesirables)? I know that a significant number are probably decent-but-poor folks who are at the end of their tether, but can we logistically remove the odious members of illegals without paying a devastating backlash?
I can't help but feel that our elected monkeys...er, officials, are keeping some unpleasant facts from us.
Or are they truly so f***ing stupid that they think waving a magic wand is going to make this potentially devastating national problem go away?
My gut tells me that amnesty will blow up in our faces in the long run. But I suspect that the clear rejection of amnesty might possibly blow up in our faces much sooner.
What are your thoughts?
