Peeeeee Ewe!
The thick smoke covering much of South Florida this evening is from a massive brush fire burning in Collier County and another brush fire that has been burning for days in Georgia, according to the National Weather Service.
The smoke began moving over the region earlier this evening, reducing visibility to three miles in some areas, said meteorologist Brad Diehl.
The direction of the winds is not expected to change right away, so Diehl said the region can expect to see more smoke through the night and into Wednesday. It appears the smoke is mostly over Miami-Dade and Broward Counties and a bit in western Palm Beach County, Diehl said.
Friggin' Georgia.

I know what you're going through, we spent 5 days on the road from Yukon Territory all through British Columbia during the summer of I think it was '85 which was a bad fire season, smoke was so thick it burned the eyes and lungs, I was hoarse and had a sore throat from it. At times the smoke was so thick visibility was under 100 yds, we were in it constantly and didn't get into clear air until we got into central Washington State. What you have is a monumental brushfire that they phrased as 20% under control, better to state the reality it's 80% out of control, I hope they get it out soon. I fought brush fires in California in 1965 like the one burning now, they are no picnic.

How did the smoke from GA get all the way down to South Florida?

actually, most of the smoke is coming from the west, in collier county.

That makes more sense, you can see the haze in the sky in Palm Beach. Hopefully this tropical storm will bring some rain.
