Thank you Art Carney

Today, on your birthday, I would like to thank you for the laughs... and thank you for protecting my freedom!

For those of you who didn't know... Art Carney was drafted into the Army in 1943 and in 1944, he took part in the D-Day landing at Normandy. A piece of mortar shrapnel shattered his right leg, leaving him with a leg three-quarters of an inch shorter than the other and a lifelong limp. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Art Carney was a funny guy, and a Hero!

I remembered Art Carney was a vet, but I didn't recall the details of his heroics. Sadly, most of today's Hollywood and Broadway Elitists wouldn't think of serving in the military!! The Greatest Generation gave us men like: Jimmie Stewart, David Niven, Art Carney, Humprey Bogart (who actually served only in WW I), James Arness, etc.
Today's Hollywood heroes would include the likes of Sean Penn, Tom Cruise, Leo Decaprio, Robin Williams and Jim Carey -- can you see any of them doing yeoman's work in the military?????
