Identifying the Enemy

Looks like we can learn a little something from Afghanistan:

KABUL (AFP) - Afghanistan has ordered a top European Union official and a United Nations staffer to leave the country for threatening national security, government and diplomatic officials said Tuesday.

The two were declared persona non grata, apparently after allegations they had met with Taliban insurgents, a European diplomat said.

I wasn't all that confident in this article, it's from the AFP and we know how reliable they are, but whaddya know, it seems this story is actually true, and, its not just any EU official...

One is a high-ranking UN employee, Briton Mervyn Patterson, the other is acting head of the EU mission in Afghanistan, Irishman Michael Semple.

The expulsion order follows claims that the men had held talks with the Taleban in Helmand province in the south.

The Afghan government has said the pair must leave by Thursday, and the UN has reportedly booked a flight.

Wow! The Head of the UN Mission! Imagine that!

But hey, I can understand how the Afghani Government feels... now that they've decided to negotiate with the Taliban and invite them into the government, they don't need the UN or the EU getting in the way.

Of course, the UN says its all a misunderstanding, and it probably is, considering that they were wandering around in what is called a haven for the Taliban, which happens to be the heart of poppy farmland. By their own admission, they were trying to "to talk to the people on the ground, to understand from the people on the ground what their needs are, what their concerns are, and that includes people who are perhaps less than supportive of the government of Afghanistan."

I'm sure they had no interest in government issues at all. Both the UN and the EU have been "playing" a major role in the attempt to eradicate the poppy business, but they have failed to achieve any positive results. And now that they're caught, my guess is the world will have to wait a little bit longer for the UN's "Opium for Food Program."

Oh well. At least the "peacekeepers" didn't rape any school kids. Yet.

""Peacekeepers"" It would be nice if we lead by their example and booted them out of the United States too. All it takes is 24 hour notice and drop out, confiscate all their holdings and give them 72 hours to vacate the nation. Ally more with NATO or form a new non - Communist, non Islamist world body that will work toward peace instead of UN totalitarianism. It would make it a Happy New Year indeed.

That's the fact, Jack. And M'Lady...."Yet".

What should, or could have been a truly unifying force for good in this world is a shabby, corrupt shadow of it's original intent, run by third world thugs and thieves, and yes, rapists.

They should be forced back to their own countries where they "don't have a pot to pi$$ in, nor a window to throw it out of".

I heard that somewhere.
