Shabbat Shalom

Our Father in Heaven, Rock and Redeemer of Israel, bless the State of Israel, the first manifestation of the approach of our redemption. Shield it with Your loving kindness, envelop it in Your peace, and bestow Your light and truth upon its leaders, ministers, and advisors, and grace them with Your good counsel. Strengthen the hands of those who defend our holy land, grant them deliverance, and adorn them in a mantle of victory.

Ordain peace in the land and grant its inhabitants eternal happiness. Lead them, swiftly and upright, to Your city Zion and to Jerusalem, the abode of Your Name, as is written in the Torah of Your servant Moses: “Even if your outcasts are at the ends of the world, from there the Lord your God will gather you, from there He will fetch you. And the Lord your God will bring you to the land that your fathers possessed, and you shall possess it; and He will make you more prosperous and more numerous than your fathers.”

Draw our hearts together to revere and venerate Your name and to observe all the precepts of Your Torah, and send us quickly the Messiah son of David, agent of Your vindication, to redeem those who await Your deliverance.

Manifest yourself in the splendor of Your boldness before the eyes of all inhabitants of Your world, and may everyone endowed with a soul affirm that the Lord, God of Israel, is king and his dominion is absolute.

Amen

By the rivers of Babylon
we sat down and cried
as we remembered Zion
as we remembered Zion, our holy city.

Answer us, answer us our king
answer us, answer us our creator
answer us, answer us our king
answer us our king
answer us
answer us our creator

By the rivers of Babylon...

Answer us...

February 26, 2008

I fear we have we have already forgotten

Today is the 15th anniversary of the bombing of the World Trade Center parking garage on February 26, 1993.

Seven Americans were murdered (including an unborn baby carried by one of the adult victims). Over 1,000 were injured.

The mastermind of the bombing, Ramzi Yousef, was convicted in 1998 and is presently rotting away in in prison. The spiritual leader of the terrorists who conducted the bombing, Sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman, is also rotting away in prison and will hopefully croak soon. Their attorney, Lynne Stewart, was convicted of helping them plot and execute additional attacks on our country from their jail cell by carrying messages to their terrorist minions.

Only a few weeks before the bombing, the blind sheikh, who had been in constant communication with his co-conspirators, had attracted a crowd of followers at a Brooklyn rally. “God has obliged us to perform jihad,” he thundered. “The battalions of Islam and its divisions must be in a state of continuous readiness . . . to hit their enemies with strength and power.”

The “enemies at the foremost of the work against Islam,” he declared, were “America and the allies.” For them, he had a warning:

If those who have the right [to have something] are terrorists then we are terrorists. And we welcome being terrorists. And we do not deny this charge to ourselves. And the Qur’an makes it among the means to perform jihad for the sake of Allah, which is to terrorize the enemies of God and our enemies too. . . . Then we must be terrorists and we must terrorize the enemies of Islam and frighten them and disturb them and shake the earth under their feet.

A small stone memorial in honor of the victims of the 1993 bombing was erected in the WTC. Of course, it's nothing but a memory now, it was destroyed in the 9/11/01 attacks along with 2,996 innocent people whose lives were taken by islamic terrorists.

We should never forget the 1993 WTC bombing and the victims:

* John DiGiovanni, Valley Stream, New York
* Robert Kirkpatrick, Suffern, New York
* Steve Knapp, Manhattan, New York City
* Monica Smith, Seaford, New York (and unborn baby)
* William Macko, Bayonne, New Jersey
* Wilfredo Mercado, Brooklyn, New York City

A few months after September 11, 2001, I found myself in a coversation about it with an attorney, and he said the most amazing thing about September 11, 2001. He said to me, "well, it is the first act of terrorism on US soil." I had to remind of the events of February 26, 1993 because, well, as you can see, he had already forgotten.

The bomb in the garage was intended to cause one tower to fall into the other, and additional attacks were planned for the UN Building, the FBI Headquarters the Holland Tunnel, the Lincoln Tunnel, and the George Washington Bridge.

"My impression was that fighting terrorism, in general, and fighting al Qaeda, in particular, were an extraordinarily high priority in the Clinton administration -- certainly no higher priority. There were priorities probably of equal importance such as the Middle East peace process, but I certainly don't know of one that was any higher in the priority of that administration." Former Counter-Terrorism Official Richard Clark, during the 9/11 Commission Hearings

You have to wonder what alternate reality Mr. Clark was living in, as, rather than treat this attack as a declaration of war, the Clinton Administration chose to treat it as crime, using law enforcement agencies to investigate. And, two weeks after the 1993 WTC attack, President Clinton was at a defense plant talking about retoolling defense plants to peacetime production, at a cost of $1.5 billion dollars.

In all fairness, the FBI investigation did result in the arrest and conviction of the terrorists who carried out the attack, but still, the trial did not bring awareness of the extent of the threat to America, instead, it lulled us into a false sense of security, believing that the bad guys were caught, convicted and locked up.

Nothing could be farther from the truth:

The investigation following the explosions linked several distinct groups to the bombing and revealed a conspiracy to target other New York City landmarks such as the United Nations building. One of these groups included five defendants who were arrested during a raid at a New York City garage in which law enforcement officials found the five mixing chemicals that were to be used in bombs. The men were charged with conspiring to bomb a building in the United Nations headquarters, the federal office building housing the FBI, and two tunnels under the Hudson River linking New York and New Jersey.

From this group, members of Fuqra, the FBI found links to 10 additional suspects and a federal grand jury indicted all 15 on charges that they plotted to bomb the United Nations and other New York City landmarks, and plotted to assassinate Egyptian leaders. Across the board, bail was denied. Fuqra is a radical Islamic sect whose followers are believed to be responsible for a string of crimes in the United States.

Terrorism Knowledge Base

These groups still operate in the United States of America, and they pose a real threat to our safety and well being.

The events on February 26, 1993 should have been a wake-up call for America, but we went right back to sleep. Islamic terrorism had arrived on our shores and we, as a nation, chose to ignore the threat. Today, the words of an eyewitness on February 26, 1993 are haunting:

Our enemies hated us then, as they hate us now. The only thing that changed was that on September 11, 2001 they succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. And, as the saying goes, nothing succeeds like success.

Hey Mom! What's for Dinner?

U.N. Conference Promotes Insect-Eating for Everyone

CHIANG MAI, Thailand — Crickets, caterpillars and grubs are high in protein and minerals and could be an important food source during droughts and other emergencies, according to scientists.

The U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization estimates 1,400 species of insects and worms are eaten in almost 90 countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia. Researchers at the conference detailed how crickets and silk worms are eaten in Thailand, grubs and grasshoppers in Africa and ants in South America.

The challenge, experts said, is organizing unregulated, small bug food operations in many countries so they can supplement the food that aid agencies provide. The infrastructure to raise, transport and market bugs is almost nonexistent in most countries.

There are questions about the safety of eating bugs and potential dangers from over-harvesting them, said Durst, who became interested in the practice known scientifically as entomophagy during his years working in Bangkok, where crickets and bamboo worms are sold as food by street vendors.

Tina van den Briel, senior nutritionist at the World Food Program, the U.N. agency that provides food in emergencies, expressed doubt that insects can benefit large, vulnerable populations. Most bugs are seasonal and have a short shelf life, she said.

Thanks but, I'll take a pass on that. Why don't you send my portion to the Hungry Hippo?

The Hungry Hippo

OVERWEIGHT preacher of hate Abu Hamza has given prison officials a list of demands after telling his lawyer: “I’m starving in here.”

Hamza, 49, who weighs about 20 stone, has told jail chiefs he wants more and better food, extra phone time and an end to constant strip searches.

The former imam of Finsbury Park Mosque in north London, who is fighting extradition to the US, also objects to squatting during searches as it contravenes Islamic law.

Hamza, who has hooks after losing both hands, is serving seven years at Belmarsh prison in south London for soliciting the murder of non-Muslims and inciting racial hatred.

Inmates of the category A jail, which houses some of Britain’s most dangerous prisoners, have branded Hamza the “Hungry Hippo” because of his vast bulk. A prison insider said: “It was a label which instantly stuck – he’s a big man and everyone knows him for wearing that grey outfit. When word got round that he was moaning about being hungry, it seemed an obvious title.”

-------

Twenty stone is about 280 pounds, sheesh! The fat bastard could certainly stand to miss a few meals, but what the heck, let's send him some food:

Farewell Ron

This is from the last entry on The Freedom Fighter's Journal:

I understand the ______ building is more than 150 feet tall. At the time of my last recon I noticed easy access to the roof that would allow someone to leap to their death to the parking lot below. I'm not an expert in these matters, but if I recall from my physics classes in college at 100 feet a falling object reaches a speed of about 100 MPH. This means that the falling man would hit the pavement at a speed great enough to cause instant death. I understand that over the years since the construction of this building several persons have died by jumping from this structure.

I plan to make such a leap. I do this in memory of the several hundred victims on 9/11 who jumped off the World Trade Center as a means of avoiding burning to death, and the over 3,000 American soldiers killed fighting Islamofascism in Iraq and Afghanistan. A parallel reason is a protest against the American Left and the Democrat Party who have stabbed the Armed Forces in the back in the early stages of what is shaping up to be The Third World War.

This is an excellent time to make a final statement - a dying declaration - about an event that resulted in my life being ruined. This is my imprisonment for an attempt on the life of President Clinton in 1994. In truth I made no such attempt and I was convicted on the basis of lies told to the court by the U.S. Secret Service and an edited audiotape. I have no way of knowing the dynamics behind my conviction, but I suspect that it was done on the basis of personal advancement and political reasons on the part of certain individuals in the District Federal Court and Secret Service. In addition I would not rule out Bill or Hillary Clinton being personally involved in my case based on their well known records of revenge against their opponents.

Two days later:

Ronald Barbour Obituary

Its unclear from the obit how Ron died, and I could find no confirmation that he really did jump to his death, but he is most certainly dead and likely by his own hand.

I wish someone could have helped you through this Ron. Surrender should never be an option, and turning your back on the battle is surrender.

Rest in peace Ron. May G-d comfort those you left behind.

Haveil Havalim #155

Thanks to Jack at Random Thoughts, The 155th Edition of Haveil Havalim is up.

Haveil Havalim is a carnival of Jewish blogs -- a weekly collection of Jewish & Israeli blog highlights, tidbits and points of interest collected from blogs all around the world. It's hosted by different bloggers each week. The term 'Haveil Havalim,' which means "Vanity of Vanities," is from Qoheleth, (Ecclesiastes) which was written by King Solomon. King Solomon built the Holy Temple in Jerusalem and later on got all bogged down in materialism and other 'excesses' and realized that it was nothing but 'hevel,' or in English, 'vanity.'

As always, there are some excellent articles linked. One of my posts, An Absence of Hope, is included this week.

Enjoy!

Ruh Roh

Satellite data shows that concerns over the levels of sea ice may have been premature.

It was feared that the polar caps were vanishing because of the effects of global warming.

But figures from the respected US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration show that almost all the “lost” ice has come back.

Ice levels which had shrunk from 13million sq km in January 2007 to just four million in October, are almost back to their original levels.

Figures show that there is nearly a third more ice in Antarctica than is usual for the time of year.

They add that snow cover across the area is at its greatest since 1966.

---

Just think, both of the "frontrunners" for the Presidency are global warming nutjobs, both McCain and Obama support mandatory carbon credits and a fifty-cent carbon surcharge on gasoline usage.

On the issues that will directly effect this country, life in this country, McCain is the same as Hillary and Obama. The only real difference is the war. Ask yourself, will there be anything left of this country after the war?

Imagine if you have to make a choice.

Are you willing to accept the coming "global warming" backlash of mandatory carbon credits by city and state and the increased taxes and penalties that will come along with it? Carbon surcharges will destroy our economy. Corporations will be penalized the most, driving costs through the roof. They will cut staff and raise prices. Americans will do without certain things, how many corporations will close because they simply cannot continue?

Mandatory carbon credits applied to cities and states will certainly raise taxes, where do you really think that money is going to come from?

Don't like the cost of gas now? Wait till they hit us with a fifty-cent carbon surcharge per gallon. Add that to the increase cost of living, increased taxes, unemployment due to closed business and the tightening of belts, and ask yourself, how much of this can this country take?

And if these policies are put into place by a republican, what do think our chances will be 2012? A liberal agenda put in place by a republican will destroy any chances we have.

Ask yourself, "What's worse, a moderate seeming Republican who can garner support for his Liberal plans.....or a wild eyed Leftist who cannot?"

When it comes to that liberal agenda, McCain will be more successful at putting those things in place than Obama, or even Hillary. Why? Well, because a perceived "moderate republican" will be able to garner enough support to do so. The party republicans in Congress will back him, whereas they might fight Obama or Hillary. And, make no mistake, if the horror of a liberal agenda comes to pass under McCain, it will be deemed the fault of the republicans.

On the other hand, an extremist democrat would not garner the same level of support and will likely have to fight every step of the way. That's a good thing. And, if its Hillary or Obama who implement these policies, then yes, American will still suffer but it will be an obvious democrat at fault and not a liberal in conservative clothing.

If McCain is successful, it will be a deemed a republican presidential fiasco and leave us holding the bag in the next election cycle. If Obama or Hillary are successful, well... then America will see what comes of socialist thinking, appeasement and the liberal agenda. Then, we might get things straightened out in 2012. If McCain implements all those things, well, we are doomed again in 2012.

That's why I won't back McCain no matter what.

An Absence of Hope

Nineteen months after the kidnapping of Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev by the Lebanese Hezbollah, there has been a dramatic shift in the negotiations for their return. Until now, the Israeli government assumed that at least one and perhaps even both of the soldiers survived the Shiite militia's attack on their border patrol on July 12, 2006. But intelligence information suggests that this assumption was wrong (more...). According to information obtained by SPIEGEL, Jerusalem has now concluded that the two soldiers are dead.

Even in the absence of unequivocal evidence, the negotiators have already abandoned hope. Nevertheless, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is hesitant to publicly pronounce Goldwasser and Regev dead. It would be a bitter setback for Olmert, who defined the return of the soldiers as the objective of the Lebanon war in the summer of 2006.

Back in July of 2007, it was reported that at least one of them were dead, and it was denied by Nasrallah. No one cared then, and no one will care now, as no one cared when we suffered through reports that Gilad Shalit was gravely injured and in need of medical attention.

Nineteen months. Amazing how time marches on, while the world pressures Israel to make concessions to these terrorists even as it turns its back on Gilad Shalit, Ehud Goldwasser, and Eldad Regev, indifferent as to whether they are alive, or dead. I look at the remains of their humvee, and I wonder.

Were they alive when captured, were they injured? And if so, who treated their injuries, what medicines were they given by the animals who took them? I look at that humvee, and I believe that they were injured, and I know that they were likely just bandaged up and left to live or die on their own. If they were alive, or are alive, every additional day of captivity makes it more likely that they will never be free.

Their lives matter only to those who love them. To the terrorists, they are pawns, bargaining chips. To their country, they are an inconvenience. And to the rest of the world, their lives mean nothing. I hope and I pray for them, but I expect the worst, and with good reason. Their names and their faces had already faded from the news, and soon, the world will forget they ever existed, as they have forgotten other Israeli soldiers who have disappeared into the hands of terrorists, never to be seen or heard from again:

Three soldiers, captured by terrorists during a battle with Syrian and Palestinian forces near the Lebanese village of Sultan Yaqub. June 11, 1982. Twenty-five years ago, over 9,000 days.

Two soldiers captured with them were released in prisoner exchanges with Syria and Achmed Jibril's PFLP-GC (Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command). Every once in a while, their names come up (including the 1988 Amnesty International Report and the 1993 Amnesty International December Update) but reports are conflicting and nothing is verifiable. Zachary Baumel is an American citizen.

Israeli air-force navigator Ron Arad was taken captive after his F-4 Phantom warplane went down over Lebanon. October 16, 1982. Twenty-four years ago, over 8,000 days.

Ron Arad was taken captive by Amal, a Lebanese Shi’ite militia group lead by Nabih Berri, who today is the speaker of the Lebanese Parliament. In 1987, Arad’s family received several letters and a photo of Arad confirming that the missing navigator was alive and in Amal’s hands. Mustafa Dirani, the Amal security chief who allegedly captured Ron Arad when his plane crashed in Lebanon, reportedly broke away from the terrorist group in 1987, taking Arad with him. It is believed that Dirani then "sold" Arad to either Hizbullah or Iranian elements.

According to Israeli newspaper Yediot Aharonot, as recently as 2003, three former Iranian diplomats and intelligence officials living in Europe claimed that Ron Arad is alive and being held in a prison near Tehran. But these reports cannot be verified.

Twenty years later, we know nothing about the fate of Ron Arad, although I have my own thoughts on that.

Guy Hever, a soldier in the Israeli Army who was reportedly last seen standing at the Katzabiya junction, just a kilometer away from the Syrian border. He disappeared, and has not been heard of since. August 17, 1997. Ten years ago, over 3,500 days.

Does anyone remember these men today? Sadly, no, most people don't remember them, if they ever knew about them in the first place. Disappearing Jews don't make headlines. And if you notice where that link goes, well, its not anything in the mainstream media. Even dead Jews don't make headlines.

Hasty Pudding? uh...

Christopher Walken sang a song from 'Hairspray' and spoofed a 'Saturday Night Live' skit on Friday night to earn Harvard's Hasty Pudding Man of the Year award.

At a roast before the presentation, Walken, who serenaded John Travolta in 'Hairspray' last year, sang to a Harvard student in drag.

Another cast member from Harvard's student drama group came on stage banging a cow bell, evoking the SNL skit in which Walken played a music producer who called for "more cow bell."

Walken, who joked afterward that "I'd have prepared or had a couple of drinks" if he had known what was in store, donned a copper-colored bra and brown wig. He couldn't get into a pair of blue pumps that were supposed to be part of the outfit, doing a dance in his street shoes instead.

"I hope nobody's watching," Walken said. "I acted on a stage in a play about 20 years ago."

In a more serious vein, Walken said he was "amazed and thrilled" by the honor.

He added, "Harvard has all the cow bell that it needs."

Oh my! Whatever you do, don't tell Wollf!

The Village People

are surely deeply saddened by this news:

A band of 14 masked gunmen forced its way into YMCA offices in the Gaza Strip and exploded a library there, Israel Radio reported Friday.

Thousands of books were reportedly burnt in the ensuing fire. The YMCA in Gaza also operates a gym and a wedding hall.

The gunmen laid a second explosive device near a computer in the library but it failed to detonate. Two security guards on the scene were not able to block the intruders; they were taken by them from the YMCA and later released in the northern Gaza Strip.

The latest incident is another link in an ongoing chain of attacks against Palestinian Christians which has worsened since Hamas took power of the Gaza Strip last June.

However, Christians in the West Bank were not faring much better and the Christian population in both territories has been continually dwindling.

The article goes on to report:

The Palestinian Christian population has dipped to 1.5% of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, down from at least 15% a half century ago, according to some estimates. No city in the Holy Land is more indicative of the Christian exodus than Bethlehem, which fell under full Palestinian control last decade as part of the Oslo Accords. The town of 30,000 is now less than 20% Christian, after decades during which Christians were the majority. Elsewhere in the PA territories, only about 3,000 Christians, mostly Greek Orthodox, live in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip, among a strongly conservative Muslim population of 1.4 million.

and the world wants to give Jerusalem to these savage animals.

Tit for Tat

Can you imagine an America where every day is a horror of rockets raining down indiscriminately on schools, homes, parks and gardens? Where a trip to the grocery store becomes an nightmare of dodging and ducking an unseen threat falling out of the sky? An America where a fifteen second warning is all you get before death and destruction rains down upon you? Imagine living in an America where every minute of every day, whether awake or asleep, the threat of a random strike killing you and/or your loved ones hangs over your head. Imagine such horrors in your home town, near-deserted streets, the empty malls and cafes, and the air of impending doom hanging over you like a cloud.

Every minute of every day.

You cannot imagine it, unless you are in Sderot, Israel. What is it like to live like this?

The Israeli government has turned a blind eye to the daily attacks on its people and the rest of the world is worse than silent, as there are constant recriminations and accusations of abuse heaped upon even the pathetic attempts made by Israel to stop these attacks. The palestinians shoot rockets at civilians, Israel shuts off their electricity and the world condemns Israel. It is simply ridiculous.

Today, I cannot help but remember when, on the day before the expulsion from Gaza, I sat with Dr. Yitschak Ben Gad, the Consul General of Israel to Florida and Puerto Rico as he defended Sharon and the "disengagement." On that day, we came to the Consulate seeking help for our people. The Consul General talked to us, smiled at us, shook our hands, took pictures with us, and he lied to us. I asked him, what will the government do when the rockets start and he said... we will bombard them. He sat in that room, he looked me directly in the eye, and he lied.

And last May, at the end of his term as Consulate, I again stood together with Dr. Ben Gad, he turned to me with anger because of what I said to him in that room, on that day before his government expelled the Jews of Gush Katif from their homes and turned the land over to terrorists who now shoot rockets on civilians. And Ben Gad raised his voice to me in a room full of people, to tell me "The disengagement was a disaster," as if I hadn't told him that before it happened, as if he were the first person to realize it and not the last.

I was able to shoulder that anger from Dr. Ben Gad, because I knew that his anger was misdirected away from himself and projected on me, and merely the result of his guilt and his shame. And he is guilty, and he should be shamed, as should the Israeli government, for not standing against what they knew was wrong and for saying what they knew was not true. Israel's leaders turned their back on what was right, turned their back on the State of Israel and turned their back on their people. They have bloodied their hands.

What kind of world do we live in where leaders will protest the inhumanity of lights out in Gaza, and yet ignore the rockets raining down on the citizens of Sderot? And how long can good people suffer before they fight back?

'Let's make our own rockets'

A new Facebook group is urging Sderot residents to use the Internet to learn how to build crude rockets, much like the Kassams launched at them from the Gaza Strip, and fire them back at the Palestinians.

The group, which currently has 45 members, posts material from the Internet on how to manufacture rockets.

The group's creators, Shai and Batya Messenberg from Petah Tikva, posted a description that reads: "It cannot be so difficult: If those retards from the Gaza Strip can do it then so can you."

The description encourages residents of the town to trawl the Net for information on how to build ballistic missiles from materials found in the home.

"I'm sure that very soon they [the Gazans] will get the message," the group's creator wrote.

The article in JPost was published on February 11th, the group has swelled to 335 people, of which I am one. I can't be there, but I can send money, and I will send money. The time has come to fight back. Tit for tat, and somehow, I don't think the palestinians are gonna like it much.

And maybe, just maybe, the peace-loving palestinians we keep hearing about will rise up and put an end to these terrorist attacks against Israel. Maybe, just maybe, they will stop allowing their homes, their schools, their children, to serve as shields for the animals who commit these acts.

Quote of the Day

"Hatred as an element of the struggle; a relentless hatred of the enemy, impelling us above and beyond the natural limitations that man is heir to, and transforming him into an effective, violent, seductive and cold killing machine." - Communist Mass Murderer Che Guevara

Ernesto "Che" Guevara dreamed of creating the "New Man" at any cost. During the Cuban missile crisis, he was in favor of a nuclear war because he believed that a better world could be built from the ashes, regardless of the cost in millions of lives. By adhering to his anti-American feelings and pro-Soviet stance, he achieved a role in history that stands for one failure after another, both in Cuba, as well as in all the other countries where he went to promote and disseminate Castro’s Revolution.

Ernesto "Che" Guevara had all the characteristics of a ruthless dictator and opponent of freedom. He believed that the end justifies the means, and he fanatically adhered to this gospel. This "idealized icon" is the one who, as a modern day Grand Inquisitor, eliminated many of his foes with a single pistol shot to the back of their heads. And he is also the same one who authored these enhancing words printed in the identity booklets of young Cuban soldiers sent to fight in Angola: "Blind hate against the enemy creates a forceful impulse that cracks the boundaries of natural human limitations, transforming the soldier in an effective, selective and cold killing machine. A people without hate cannot triumph against the adversary."

Che Guevara, a man, who ordered the execution of countless human beings while in charge of the notorious La Cabaña prison in Havana, who terrorized Cuban society and who denied freedom to thousands of citizens whom he considered "deviants" or "anti-revolutionaries" can never be accepted as a hero, martyr or -- the shock of it -- a saint. The blood of thousands of Cubans is on the hands of "Che" Guevara, and it is his face that adorns the campaign offices of Barack Hussein Obama.

Makes you wonder just what Obama means when he talks about change, don't it?

Don't miss Jews Against Obama.

In the wilderness

a voice cries out...

Apparently, many Arabs seem to believe that Palestine is our one and only tragedy. Often when we campaign for other things, a lot of people angrily write us back with, “What about Palestine?”

What about it? Is it not enough that it has hijacked every single news hour, every single newspaper, every other conversation, every other blog? Of course it is worthy of this attention, what is happening is horrible and people need to stay aware. But there is so much more than awareness here - there is a consistent obsession with this Palestinian conflict that so many Arabs love to collectively rave about, despite not proposing or doing anything to help solve this problem or the Palestinian people in general.

Secondly, when fellow Arabs are racist against Palestinians, I don’t see anyone being revolted by it. Like the numerous Arab Facebook groups wanting Palestinians out of their territory. And who could forget the Kuwaiti author who once wrote that most Palestinians are backstabbing and are thus deserving of death?

Almost no outcries from the public. Why? Because apparently, Arabs are only wronged by the “enemy.” We’re so perfect and precious to ever wrong ourselves.

Finally, an honest assessment of arab-think:

I am sickened by the question, “what about Palestine?”

Please remind me, how many rallies took place in defense of innocent Darfurians? How many newspapers demanded action and justice against honour crimes? How many news networks revealed what the Baha’is are suffering through in many of our countries? How many people cared enough to focus on foreign workers in an attempt to abolish the widespread slavery in the Gulf? How many people in this region cared to network with Afghans who come from a country where many people are without electricity, an education, basic rights, an opportunity to communicate with the world, where the life expectancy is below 40?

How many people stood up and echoed the voices of the voiceless? Must one obsess with Palestine in order to be taken seriously?

Over the years, I've been known to mock MidEast Youth for the same kind of thinking that Esra'a bemoans, and I have taken quite a bit of heat for it. I did not expect the article to be very well received, but to my surprise, a good bit of the followup comments are somewhat agreeable, even if still peppered with that very same obsessive thinking. And, the honest evaluation in at least some of the comments surprised me:

Unfortunately it has gone as far as being an obsession, and sometimes even a diversionary tactic used by our governments when they want locals to focus on something other than their own human rights abuses.

Is there hope? Perhaps there is.

Primary Perception

"My hope is that whoever the next president is, and whoever is in the new [U.S.] Congress, will have a broader and more comprehensive view" of the immigration problem, Calderon said.

Speaking at the presidential residence Los Pinos on the morning after the Super Tuesday presidential primaries in the U.S., Calderon said he took heart from the results, though he did not mention specific candidates.

"It seems to me that the most radical and anti-immigrant candidates have been left behind and have been put in their place by their own electorate," Calderon said.

Stiletto Shoe Porn

Because I'd rather talk about anything other than John McCain...

... wearing them can also work wonders for a woman's sex life, research suggests.

High-heeled shoes not only tone the legs and strengthen the pelvic muscles, but they "directly work the pleasure muscles which are linked to an orgasm", it is claimed.

Italian urologist Dr Maria Cerruto discovered that a pair of "moderately high-heeled shoes" had beneficial effects.

"I adore high-heeled shoes and I wanted to find something positive about them," said Dr Cerruto, of the University of Verona. "In the end I achieved my goal."

"The heels influence and work the pelvic muscles and reduce the need to exercise them."

"We now hope to prove that wearing heels during daily activity may reduce the need for the pelvic exercises necessary to keep that part of a woman's anatomy toned and elastic."

The study involved 66 women under the age of 50. Dr Cerruto discovered that women who held their feet at a 15-degree angle to the ground, the equivalent of a two-inch heel, showed up to 15 per cent less electrical activity in their pelvic muscles.

This suggests the muscles are more relaxed with higher heels, increasing their strength and ability to contract.

Dr Cerruto added: "Women often have difficulty in carrying out the right exercises for the pelvic zone and wearing heels could prove to be the solution."

Ronald Wilson Reagan 1911 ~ 2004

Ronald Reagan was the first President I voted for, he made me the Conservative that I am, and that I will always be. Mr. Reagan was a true leader who knew no boundries. There was nothing he would not do for America.

Today would have been Ronald Reagan's 97th birthday.

From the NYT:

To a nation hungry for a hero, a nation battered by Vietnam, damaged by Watergate and humiliated by the taking of hostages in Iran, Ronald Reagan held out the promise of a return to greatness, the promise that America would “stand tall” again.

By Peggy Noonan

In his presidency he did this: He out-argued communism and refused to accept its claim of moral superiority; he rallied the West, rallied America and continued to make big gambles, including a defense-spending increase in a recession. He promised he'd place Pershings in Europe if the Soviets would not agree to arms reductions, and told Soviet leaders that they'd never be able to beat us in defense, that we'd spend them into the ground. They were suddenly reasonable. Ronald Reagan told the truth to a world made weary by lies. He believed truth was the only platform on which a better future could be built. He shocked the world when he called the Soviet Union "evil," because it was, and an "empire," because it was that, too. He never stopped bringing his message to the people of the world, to Europe and China and in the end the Soviet Union. And when it was over, the Berlin Wall had been turned into a million concrete souvenirs, and Soviet communism had fallen. But of course it didn't fall. It was pushed. By Mr. Know Nothing Cowboy Gunslinger Dimwit. All presidents should be so stupid.

He pushed down income taxes too, from a high of 70% when he entered the White House to a new low of 28% when he left, igniting the long boom that, for all its ups and downs, is with us still. He believed, as JFK did, that a rising tide lifts all boats. He did much more, returning respect to our armed forces, changing 50-year-old assumptions about the place of government and the place of the citizen in the new America.

What an era his was. What a life he lived. He changed history for the better and was modest about it. He didn't bray about his accomplishments but saw them as the work of the American people. He did not see himself as entitled, never demanded respect, preferred talking to hotel doormen rather than State Department functionaries because he thought the doormen brighter and more interesting. When I pressed him once, a few years out of the presidency, to say what he thought the meaning of his presidency was, he answered, reluctantly, that it might be fairly said that he "advanced the boundaries of freedom in a world more at peace with itself." And so he did. And what could be bigger than that?

"Whatever else history may say about me when I’m gone, I hope it will record that I appealed to your best hopes, not your worst fears; to your confidence rather than your doubts. My dream is that you will travel the road ahead with liberty’s lamp guiding your steps and opportunity’s arm steadying your way." ~ Ronald W. Reagan

LIFE

I wonder what it's all about, and why
We suffer so, when little things go wrong?
We make our life a struggle,
When life should be a song.

Our troubles break and drench us,
Like spray on the cleaving prow
Of some trim Gloucester schooner
As it dips in a graceful bow.

Our troubles break and drench us
But like that cleaving prow,
The wind will fan and dry us.
And we'll watch some other bow.

But why does sorrow drench us
When our fellow passes on?
He's just exchanged life's dreary dirge
For an eternal life of song.

What is the inborn human trait
That frowns on a life of song?
That makes us weep at the journey's end,
When the journey was oft-times wrong?

Weep when we reach the door
That opens to let us in,
And brings to us eternal peace
As it closes again on sin.

Millions have gone before us,
And millions will come behind.
So why do we curse and fight
At a fate both wise and kind.

We hang onto a jaded life
A life full of sorrow and pain.
A life that warps and breaks us,
And we try to run through it again.

Ronald Reagan

"Let me thank you, the American people, for giving me the great honor of allowing me to serve as your president. When the Lord calls me home, whenever that may be, I will leave the greatest love for this country of ours and eternal optimism for its future." ~ Ronald Reagan, 1994

Super Tuesday was, for me, a nightmare of epic proportions. I cannot, and will not, support John McCain for the presidency of the United States of America. I might be able to hold my nose for Mitt Romney, but, I don't think he can get the nod. So, I find that I have to look at things in a different way, with an eye toward the future.

McCain. Obama. Hillary. What's the difference?

McCain wants the same things that the liberal democrats want. And I fear he will be more successful at putting those things in place than Obama, or even Hillary. Why? Well, when these policies are implimented, America will suffer greatly. I believe that a perceived moderate republican will garner enough support to do so. If these horrors come to pass under McCain, it will be the fault of the republicans. On the other hand, an extremist democrat would not garner the same level of support and will likely have to fight every step of the way. If Hillary or Obama implement these policies, then yes, American will still suffer but it will be an obvious democrat at fault and not a liberal in conservative clothing.

If McCain is successful, it will be a deemed a republican presidential fiasco and leave us holding the bag in the next election cycle. If Obama or Hillary are successful, well... we might get things straightened out in 2012. Perhaps America needs a little lesson in the end result of liberal think.

and... I remember the lessons of history. It appears it takes a Carter to get a Reagan.

Reason # 893576869

Why I love the Marines:

The truth is, Medea, you slack jawed, droopy-faced, fucking nitwit, that you don’t want this office there because it makes you feel small. It makes you feel dirty. It makes you feel unworthy. And you should. Because you ARE small, dirty, and unworthy. You have spit in the face of those who, for generations, have actually defended democracy, upheld the Constitution, and literally stood up to defeat Hitler – and any reminder of the importance of their actions is also a reminder of the utter worthlessness of yours.

Ultimately, you festering pieces of putrid fecal matter can’t stand the sight of a Marine because it reminds you that you aren’t one. It reminds you that you have done NOTHING with your life that makes a difference. And that being the case, I hope that office stays open whether it signs anybody up or not. I’d happily sit there all day just to know that it pissed you off and reflected your total lack of value. You have never defended democracy, you are completely unacquainted with what it takes to uphold the Constitution, you have never had to actually face down an entity as threatening as Hitler, and you have added nothing to society. In total, you have done jack-shit deserving of the legacy of those Americans who came before you that did all those things and those Americans who you want removed from your sight that are presently doing all those things.

Thank you Wollf!

Yadda Yadda

This is an article in Hebrew concerning the bombing attack in Dimona, Israel that killed one woman and injured many more. There were two bombers, and it appears that one was so anxious to have pervert sex in heaven with virgins and young boys that he detonated a bit earlier than was anticipated. His premature detonation injured the second bomber, who fell to the ground, still in one piece. Although originally mistaken for a victim, the second bomber's explosive belt gave him away, and before he could recoup and detonate, an alert policeman shot him five times in the head.

Most of us have already heard about it, but the one unique aspect of this particular article is that it reports that the palestinians are complaining that the shooting of the second bomber was inhumane.

No, really. And if you follow that link, prepare to be disgusted, the commentary there is truly unbelievable.

No sympathy for the innocent people killed or injured, no compassion, no consideration that lives were surely saved by the killing of this monster before he could pull his ripcord and kill more innocent people. No, nothing but outrage that he was killed before he could come to his senses and reach his goal. No, the only outrage you see there is about how inhumane the Israeli people are for killing him.

Can there really be those who truly believe that suicide bombers killing innocent Israelis is good and innocent Israelis killing suicide bombers is bad? It would appear so, and surprise! Not all of them work at the UN. Some of them are your neighbors, your co-workers.

More and more, I dream of that little cabin on the top of the mountain, with the moat and the drawbridge.

I'm trying to like Mitt

Really. I am. But this shit just pisses me off:

But for Romney to somersault on something so personal — his own non-involvement in the Vietnam War — makes one wonder if Romney is any different from an exterior set on a Hollywood back lot: Clean and pretty in the front and all flat, plywood planks in the back.

And if he sincerely went from saying in 1994 that he had not desired to go to Vietnam to 2007’s longing to have been there, one wonders if there is anything at Romney’s core but breeze and tumbleweeds.

If Romney cynically shifted from his old position to his new one on Vietnam service, he is even more cold and calculating than previously thought.

Sadly, its not just this issue, it’s a whole bunch of issues. We have the "I'm a Liberal -Make me your Governor" Mitt and the "I'm a Conservative -Make me your President" Mitt and they are as different as night and day. Either Mitt Romney is a conservative who kowtowed to the liberals to be govenor or, he is the liberal wolf in conservative clothing looking to be president. Whichever way you spin it, it's bad news for this Country.

Obviously... the man is no daisy, but what does that leave us with? I am dead set against John McCain. So. Am I really stuck with this lying, manipulating, self-serving liberal bastard as the lesser of two evils?

Sigh. It appears that I am.

Contempt, Israeli Style

Seems to be the weekend for butt jokes, and again, you can blame Pat Riotic, who sent me this little bit of news...

Peace activist films Israeli soldiers exposing rear ends to Palestinian shepherds

Sean, the foreign peace activist who filmed the soldiers, said activists and foreign volunteers from a Christian organization were escorting Palestinians in the south Mount Hebron area to protect them from local Jewish settlers when the soldiers arrived.

"It was around noon; we were accompanying shepherds from the village of Tuba to a nearby Wadi, because the settlers regularly hassle them and throw stones in our direction," he recounted.

"The settlers demanded that the shepherds evacuate the area, and IDF soldiers who arrived at the scene also attempted to clear the Palestinian shepherds from their grazing fields; then, in the middle of the argument and for no apparent reason, the soldiers pulled down their pants and exposed their rear ends to us."

Oh the horror!

Sheesh. Come on Sean, where is you sense of humor? It was silly thing to do, but hey, no one died. So...

MK Ahmad Tibi (United Arab List-Ta'al) said the footage was "Abu Ghraib prison (in Iraq), IDF-style… the soldiers of any occupation are immoral by definition, but the IDF soldiers who exposed themselves have long been stripped of their humane values.

"It's not surprising that this vile act happened in the (West Bank city of) Hebron. The Israeli society should be shamed by this footage, especially the families who raised such monsters," added Tibi.

Monsters? You want to talk about vile acts and monsters Tibi? Three days in Israel... these are the actions of your monsters:

Proud of that, aren't you Tibi? Of course you are, that's why you celebrate your monsters in the streets, glorify them to your children, and encourage them to do the same, over and over again.

Perhaps next time the IDF might employ some arab tactics and we'll see if you like that better.
