Only Barack Obama

Could make Bill Clinton sound like a good idea.

WASHINGTON DC - Ending weeks of speculation and rumors, President-Elect Barack Obama today named Bill Clinton to join his incoming administration as President of the United States, where he will head the federal government's executive branch.

"I am pleased that Bill Clinton has agreed to come out of retirement to head up this crucial post in my administration," said Obama. "He brings a lifetime of previous executive experience as Governor of Arkansas and President of the United States, and has worked closely with most of the members of my Cabinet."

er... that is... with a little help from IowaHawk:

"I am gratified that the President-Elect has entrusted me with this important responsibility," said Clinton. "I'm looking forward to getting back behind, and under, the Oval Office desk again. As I have told the President-Elect, I pledge to do whatever I can to serve his historic administration by making sure that none of that bullshit he talked about during the campaign will ever see the light of day. Americans can rest assured that he will be safely confined to the East Wing, as far away as possible from any potentially dangerous office equipment or nuclear buttons."

Read the rest, it's just plain funny!

and... thanks Ken.

Valour-IT - The Few ~ The Loud ~ The Marines!

Okay, I'm a little late this time, but from today thru November 27th I'm raising my voice with the Marine Corps Fundraising Team, for Project Valour-IT.

What is Project Valour IT? Well, first you get the background... the story behind Valour-IT:

Project Valour-IT began when Captain Charles "Chuck" Ziegenfuss was wounded by an IED while serving as commander of a tank company in Iraq in June 2005.

During his deployment he kept a blog. Captivating writing, insightful stories of his experiences, and his self-deprecating humor won him many loyal readers. After he was wounded, his wife continued his blog, keeping his readers informed of his condition.

As he began to recover, CPT Ziegenfuss wanted to return to writing his blog, but serious hand injuries hampered his typing. When a loyal and generous reader gave him a copy of the Dragon Naturally Speaking Preferred software, other readers began to realize how important such software could be to CPT Ziegenfuss' fellow wounded soldiers and started cast about for a way to get it to them.

A fellow who writes under the pseudonym FbL contacted Captain Ziegenfuss and the two realized they shared a vision of creating libraries of laptops with voice-controlled software that could be brought to the bedsides of wounded soldiers whose injuries prevented them from operating a standard computer. FbL contacted Soldiers' Angels, who offered to help develop the project, and Project Valour-IT was born.

When I made this post in July of 2005, my goal was to cheer up Chuck as he recovered from wounds he received while defending our freedom in Iraq. Yes, it's the same Chuck, and many of you sent cards and letters to him during his stay at Walter Reed. I thank you for that. But, our work is not done yet. Now I'm asking you to help Valour-IT.

Project Valour-IT accepts donations of any amount to supply the "libraries" of laptops at major medical centers and gifts to individuals, but has also added the option of an individual or organization directly sponsoring a wounded soldier by completely funding the cost of a laptop and continuing to provide him or her with personal support and encouragement throughout recovery. Thanks to the efforts of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Valour-IT is also able to reach patients in VA hospitals who would benefit from a Valour-IT laptop.

Every cent raised for Project Valour-IT goes directly to the purchase and shipment of voice-activated laptops for wounded servicemembers.

Project Valour-IT is a simple idea with profound impact. It's grateful Americans, providing laptops with voice-activated software for severely wounded troops. Project Valour-IT offers a way for us to tell them we have not forgotten their sacrifices, and that is truly priceless. In many, many ways what we are trying to do is reconnect them to the world; remind them that they are not alone. That they still have something to contribute, that they are still a vital part of this nation, and that even though they may have lost parts of themselves that they can never recover, though they may temporarily be feeling hopeless, helpless, even alone, they aren't.

Someone remembers. Someone still cares. And when they get out of the hospital, America will find a way for them to rejoin the community and be useful again. For a wounded vet facing traumatic and painful injuries, that knowledge alone is beyond price.

Please dig deep. You cannot know the value of the hope your small contributions can bring to those who have already given so much on our behalf.

If you wish to donate, you can use the button below or this link, or send a check (with MARINES in all caps on it!) to:

Soldiers' Angels
Project Valour-IT Fund
1792 E. Washington Blvd
Pasadena, Ca 91104

If you're a blogger, join a team, any team will do. Tell your friends, family and neighbors about Valour-IT, challenge your co-workers or employer to match donations, consider involving clubs, churches, or charitable organizations. If you have any contacts in the media, local or national newspapers, radio, TV, whatever, whoever, however, spread the word!

I know I can count on your support for this, just hit the button so the Marine Corps Team gets credit! and... Thank you! (If the button looks screwy - and says "click here for demands - don't click it - read the paragraph below and use the link there).

{Note: At the moment, it seems the Coast Guard Team thought it would be fun to hijack everyone's donate button to get their team more donations (not funny), sadly though, first everyone's buttons went completely blank and no one could donate at all and now the end result is that all they've really done is make it harder for people to donate to a really worthy cause.

So. If the button looks screwy, click here to: Donate to the Marine Corps Team.

Yes, there's a good bit of good-natured interservice rivalry fun in the interests of raising some money for a good cause, but at the end of the day what really matters is not which team you support, but that you find it in your hearts to support a worthwhile cause. Because our wounded vets have given more in the service of our country than most of us will ever be able to repay.

If you were wondering why I choose the Marine Corps Fundraising Team every year, well, I love tanks, and I love fighter jets, and I love those great big ships and subs, but in the end, I joined the Marines Fundraising Team because of the Marine you see right there, down on one knee...

He served in Korea, as Infantry, in the Military Police and he was a proud member of the Marines' Drum and Bugle Corps.

And he just happens to be my Dad! Handsome, isn't he? Of course he is, that's why they let him be a Marine! and I bet you thought it was a coincidence that Marines are always so darn good looking!

I'm proud of my Dad, and I'm proud of each of every one of our troops serving in the United States Military, whether it's the Army, Navy, Air Force or the Marines. These brave men and women deserve our support, and Project Valour-IT is a great way to say Thank You!

In Memory of a Friend

Right before the 2004 Election, I was on my way to early voting in Hollywood, Florida. I pulled up to park in the garage, and I passed a couple, and their two dogs, holding Bush/Cheney signs. So, I beeped and waved, and they waved back and shouted. I stopped and we talked for a minute. It seemed there were a few Kerry supporters hanging around and Dan and Donna, together with the dogs, tried to counter them. They took some grief, that the best they could do were some puny signs and the dogs. Well, I said, you need some real signs. Follow me! and they did.

I parked my SUV, opened the hatch, and began pulling out all of the full sized, professionally made signs that were stored in my truck from the last protest that I did. Happily chatting back and forth, we picked out a few and headed for the front of the building. I left Dan and Donna out front, went in to cast my vote, and then joined them on the sidewalk afterwards.

We spent a few hours getting to know each other while waving at the passing cars, doing our thing for our country. A strong friendship was born that day, and over the years, we've done that very same thing together several times. for many reasons.

Dan and Donna stood up with me in support of Israel on Biscayne Boulevard during the run up to the expulsion of Jews from Gush Katif.

This photo was taken when did a counter-protest during the left's protest of the second Inauguration of President George W. Bush at the Torch of Friendship on Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, Florida:

I moved from Hollywood a couple of years ago. It's been a while since I've seen Dan and Donna, but we've talked and emailed. You always think there's plenty of time. Even when my brain tumor showed up again, I thought there was plenty of time.

And even when Dan told me he too had a brain tumor, I still thought there was plenty of time, after all, I've been dealing with my tumor for over ten years. Even though Dan's brain tumor was the really bad kind of tumor, I still thought there was plenty of time.

We talked right before I had the gammaknife, I was a mess from the medication. We were going to have lunch, but I wasn't thinking straight, and I got my days mixed up. And I thought there was plenty of time. Was that really three months ago? It was.

And it turns out I was wrong. There wasn't plenty of time. Time ran out.

If ever there was a person who deserved to live a long and happy life, it would be Dan. He was one of the kindest people I have ever known, he was so full of life and he cared so deeply about so many things. He loved so many and so many loved him. I was blessed to know him.

This world is a much poorer place without him, but oh, heaven is so much richer.

His resting place shall be in the Garden of Eden.
Therefore, the Master of mercy will care for him
under the protection of His wings for all time
And bind his soul in the bond of everlasting life.
God is his inheritance and he will rest in peace
and let us say Amen.

Meet Pvt. Kevin T. Flanagan

Pvt. Kevin T. Flanagan joined the Army in January 2006 and arrived at Fort Drum that May. He is a fire support specialist with the 1-32 Infantry Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division. He was in Afghanistan from May 2006 to June 2007.

Pvt. Kevin T. Flanagan was charged with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, the result of Sunday morning melee that left a Barack Obama supporter "gravely injured." Yes, you read that right.

According to police, officers arrived at the Pizza Pub restaurant, 141 W. Bridge St., at 3:02 a.m. Sunday and found Moreno, 19, a junior at the State University College at Oswego, lying near a parked car.

Moreno was taken by ambulance to the college and was then flown by helicopter to University Hospital.

According to a witness in the restaurant, the fight began when patrons began arguing about Obama's presidential election.

About 12 people, including several soldiers, took the argument outside and the fight broke out, according to a restaurant waitress who declined to give her name.

"It was all over the new president," the waitress said.

Police said no weapons were involved in the fight.

Pvt. Kevin T. Flanagan is being charged with third-degree assault for beating the piss out of a Obama supporter. I have to say, I could certainly understand how such a thing could happen, I know I have been tempted to do the same myself, many times.

Still, Moreno has equal responsibility for whatever happened, he willing "took it outside," obviously with the intention of fighting and obviously with the belief that he was going to emerge the winner. Just another punk who never learned the lesson that you should never let your mouth write a check that your ass can't cover. All it took was one punch and fight was over, one punch. Unfortunately, Moreno first hit his head on a car on his way to the pavement. Ended up with big ole well-deserved owie. Guess his Obama muscles didn't do him much good.

Now, I don't know if Pvt. Flanagan is guilty of assault, but I do know that Pvt. Flanagan put himself in harm's way in service to the United States of America and to protect my personal freedom. He has proven himself to be a man willing to protect America from her enemies, both foreign and domestic. I would like to say thank you.

The last information I obtained, he's still in jail, he hasn't raised the $5,000 bail. So, tomorrow morning, I'm going to make a few phone calls and see what I can do to help Pvt. Flanagan, either with bail or with his legal bills. Lord knows, with my medical bills, I ain't got much, but maybe I can work a few extra hours for him. It's the least I could do.

Let me know if you would like to do the same and I'll pass along any information I obtain.

It Came From Within

Seventy years ago, on November 9, 1938, Nazis looted and burned synagogues as well as Jewish-owned stores and houses in Germany and Austria in what became known as "Kristallnacht."

The term "Kristallnacht" ('Night of Broken Glass") refers to the organized anti-Jewish riots in Germany and Austria, November 9-10, 1938. These riots marked a major transition in Nazi policy, and were, in many ways, a harbinger of the "Final Solution."

Seventeen year old Herschel Grynszpan was living in Paris in the autumn of 1938 when his family in Hannover - father, mother, sister and brother - were among ten thousand Jews ruthlessly removed from their homes and deported to Poland in boxcars. His sister Berta managed to send a postcard to Herschel in Paris, describing the torments his family went through. Enraged by what he read, Herschel bought a pistol and went to the German Embassy in Paris on November 7, 1938, to take revenge and kill the ambassador, Count von Welczek. But the Third Secretary, Ernst vom Rath, was sent out to see what the young man wanted and Herschel shot him.

Herschel Grynszpan was arrested and in a poignant statement taken immediately after the arrest the young Jew told the police: "Being a Jew is not a crime. I am not a dog. I have a right to live and the Jewish people have a right to exist on this earth. Wherever I have been I have been chased like an animal." He declared that he had to avenge the Jews, to draw the attention of the world to what was happening in Germany.

For Adolf Hitler, the shooting in Paris provided an opportunity to incite Germans to "rise in bloody vengeance against the Jews." It supplied the pretext for massive Nazi pogroms launched against Jews in Germany, Austria and the Sudetenland - the orgy of Kristallnacht, the Night of Broken Glass. The tide of anti-Semitism under Nazi rule was given impetus: in the next 24 hours Nazi storm troopers along with members of the SS and Hitler Youth beat and murdered Jews, broke into and wrecked Jewish homes, brutalized Jewish women and children, destroyed 265 synagogues, looted 7,500 Jewish businesses, smashed Jewish cemeteries, hospitals and schools. At least 96 Jews were killed and hundreds more injured, more than 1,000 synagogues were burned (and possibly as many as 2,000), almost 7,500 Jewish businesses were destroyed, cemeteries and schools were vandalized, and 30,000 Jews were arrested and sent to concentration camps.

The official German position on these events, was that they were spontaneous outbursts. The Fuehrer, Goebbels reported to Party officials in Munich, "has decided that such demonstrations are not to be prepared or organized by the party, but so far as they originate spontaneously, they are not to be discouraged either."

Kristallnacht was a crucial turning point in German policy regarding the Jews and may be considered as the actual beginning of what is now called the Holocaust.

A Synagogue Burns

Yad Vashem has created a special online exhibition, It Came From Within, which provides an informative and experiential context to the events surrounding Kristallnacht, because there are important lessons to be drawn from Kristallnacht, it served as a bridge experience for both Jews and Nazis.

For the Jews, there was the terrifying realization that political antisemitism can lead to violence, even in Western Civilization. It also demonstrated that apathy can still pervade the world when the lives of Jews or other minorities are threatened.

For the Nazis, Kristallnacht taught that while the world might condemn their pogroms, it would not actively oppose them. World opinion, however, taught the Nazis the value of secrecy in the perpetration of future actions against Jews. Added to the complaints of Germans offended by the random violence of Kristallnacht, the stage was set for the "Final Solution"--the organized, bureaucratically efficient genocide of 6,000,000 men, women, and children.

In retrospect, Kristallnacht was more than the shattering of windows and illusions. It portended the physical destruction of European Jewry. As such, this commemoration must be observed both as a memorial and as a warning. -- Simon Wiesenthal Center

I urge you to visit It Came From Within, so you know what really happened in our past, so that you might better protect our future. If we do not learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it. Never again are not just words.

Here are few quotes

From the brutally blunt Peter Hitchens:

"The swooning frenzy over the choice of Barack Obama as President of the United States must be one of the most absurd waves of self-deception and swirling fantasy ever to sweep through an advanced civilisation. At least Mandela-worship – its nearest equivalent – is focused on a man who actually did something."

"Proper books, recording his sordid associates, his cowardly voting record, his astonishingly militant commitment to unrestricted abortion and his blundering trip to Africa, are little-read and hard to find."

"If you can believe that this undistinguished and conventionally Left-wing machine politician is a sort of secular saviour, then you can believe anything. He plainly doesn’t believe it himself."

"From now on, the rough boys and girls of America’s Democratic Party apparatus, many recycled from Bill Clinton’s stained and crumpled entourage, will crowd round him, to collect the rich spoils of his victory and also tell him what to do, which is what he is used to."

"No wonder that awful old hack Jesse Jackson sobbed as he watched. How he must wish he, too, could get away with this sort of stuff."

"Yes we can what exactly? Go home and keep a close eye on the tax rate, is my advice. He’d have been better off bursting into ‘I’d like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony’ which contains roughly the same message and might have attracted some valuable commercial sponsorship."

and finally:

"Forget the Cold War, or even the Iraq War. The United States, having for the most part a deeply conservative people, had until now just about stood out against many of the mistakes which have ruined so much of the rest of the world.

Suspicious of welfare addiction, feeble justice and high taxes, totally committed to preserving its own national sovereignty, unabashedly Christian in a world part secular and part Muslim, suspicious of the Great Global Warming panic, it was unique.

These strengths had been fading for some time, mainly due to poorly controlled mass immigration and to the march of political correctness. They had also been weakened by the failure of America’s conservative party – the Republicans – to fight on the cultural and moral fronts.

They preferred to posture on the world stage. Scared of confronting Left-wing teachers and sexual revolutionaries at home, they could order soldiers to be brave on their behalf in far-off deserts. And now the US, like Britain before it, has begun the long slow descent into the Third World. How sad. Where now is our last best hope on Earth?"

Well said Peter, and the next time you're in the states, I'd be happy to buy you a beer. In the meantime, don't despair. The United States has not sunk in the morass as of yet, we are still right here, hanging on, and we are going to hang on for the next four years, because we are Americans and the obamessiah will be but a one term wonder. And at the end of that one term, America will have had enough of that touchy feely kumbaya commie crap and that's when America will put a true conservative leader into the White House.

When that happens, the United States of America will climb right back on top of the world because we are the greatest country in the world, the land of the free and the home of the brave.

So hang on. We ain't gone yet.

I get mail

Someone on Facebook wants to connect with me, all the way from France!

Now, being a nice Jewish girl from Brooklyn, I don't speak the language of cowards, but from the bit of English I could see there, I got the feeling I wasn't dealing with a secret admirer, and that last word, well, I was pretty sure I knew what that meant. So, I sought some help and was advised that basically Wicem was telling me that he is going to look for me and kill me.

ooooooo! Frenchie is gonna look for me and frenchie is gonna kill me. Now why would frenchie want to do that? I've never met frenchie, nor have I had any contact with frenchie whatsoever. Well, I wasn't about to write frenchie back and ask him why he wants to kill me , because my info on Facebook is hidden and if I answered frenchie, then frenchie would have access to me. So, I clicked on frenchie to see what I could see and what do I see?

How do you like that, it turns out that frenchie is not your average frenchie, old frenchie is "musulman." A follower of the prophet of doom. A member of the cult of death known as islam, an islamotard! He's not your average frenchie coward after all, oh no, he's a moslem frenchie coward, kind of a double frenchie coward, trying to intimidate little old me with that pathetic excuse for a death threat.

Yeah, it takes a big man to talk tough on the internet, banging on a keyboard, and it takes a lot of courage to threaten people who live on another continent.

I'm shaking in my shoes here.

So, I'll tell you what frenchie, you ever show up here, I'll introduce you to my good friend Rabbi Mossberg. m'kay?

That Black Man Will Never Change US Policy

Now, take a deep breath before you call me a racist and save your angst for the person who wrote that headline, 'cause that's what it is, a headline in an Iranian newspaper and I'm just quoting....

Iranian daily newspaper Jomhouri-ye Elsami went after Obama himself with a headline reading "That Black Man Will Never Change US Policy."

According to the article, "the most that that black man can do in the White House is to replace some of the staff and change some ceremonial procedures. He will never manage to change the structure of the American regime, which was established by capitalists, Zionists and racists."

Sheesh. I guess they didn't hear about the basketball court he's planning on building. Oh well.

Egypt, however, was certainly entertaining...

Egyptian daily newspaper Al-Qaradhawi warned that it didn't matter who the presidential candidate was, because "the Democrats are like a snake that kills you slowly without you noticing."

The article said that Arabs should not think that just because the Republican Party is typically portrayed as anti-Muslim that the Democrats are any better.

November 05, 2008

Hallelujah!

It's finally November 5th!

This has been the longest, hardest, most hateful election cycle I have ever lived through and I'm so damm happy it's finally over.

I confess, I went against every single one of my principles this year, and did the one thing I swore I would never do, I voted for John McCain and I did it because I simply could not sit idle and allow Barack Hussein Obama to take the White House. It turns out he took it anyway. Oh well.

As long as I'm confessing, I might as well confess all: my last thought before falling asleep last nite, and my first thought upon waking was, now is a good time to finally make Aliyah.

Now, America is going to suffer the consequences of liberal agenda, but then, we would have suffered from that if McCain had won anyway. At least this way, it will be a liberal agenda put into place by the most liberal senator congress has ever known, assisted by the most liberal congress the country has ever known. Better that than a liberal agenda put into place by a pretend republican. This way, there will be no way for the liberals to blame the republicans for the resulting chaos and if that doesn't move this Country to the right, nothing will!

The liberal utopia is an illusion, and it's time for the left to realize that. obamessiah has feet of clay, and his minions will realize that in the morning, they still have to pay their mortgages, their electric bills, and their cell phones, there is no gas fairy to fill their tanks overnight. There is no substitute for hard work and no reward for being lazy and idle. Here in America, you work your way to the top, you don't float on the backs of your fellow Americans.

The world does not respect the weak, the price of peace is not appeasement. When our enemies test us, and we do not respond with strength, we will be overwhelmed with force.

I only hope and pray that while they learn this very important lessons, America can survive on the international front for the next four years. I have my doubts about that, and that's why I voted for McCain.

If we can survive on the international front, we are strong enough to survive four years of the horrors of a liberal agenda, and then this country will move right and we'll get this mess straightened out in 2012. We just have to hang in there. After all, he'll be in office less than 1,500 days. We can do it. We're Americans!

On a local note, Mel Raul* Martinez got a boot up his ass by Mario Diaz-Balart, and Lincoln Diaz-Balart kept his seat too, as did Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.

*As was oh-so-kindly-and-gently pointed out to me in comments, I had a little freudian slip there. It was Raul "the Felon" Martinez (D) that got his butt kicked and not Mel "the RINO" Martinez (R). Sigh.

Forbes Magazine Hits the Delete Button

An article written by Amir Tahiri has been flushed by Forbes, an article exposing how Iran views Barack Hussein Obama, and his place in Iranian prophesy:

Is Barack Obama the "promised warrior" coming to help the Hidden Imam of Shiite Muslims conquer the world?

The question has made the rounds in Iran since last month, when a pro-government Web site published a Hadith (or tradition) from a Shiite text of the 17th century. The tradition comes from Bahar al-Anvar (meaning Oceans of Light) by Mullah Majlisi, a magnum opus in 132 volumes and the basis of modern Shiite Islam.

According to the tradition, Imam Ali Ibn Abi-Talib (the prophet's cousin and son-in-law) prophesied that at the End of Times and just before the return of the Mahdi, the Ultimate Saviour, a "tall black man will assume the reins of government in the West." Commanding "the strongest army on earth," the new ruler in the West will carry "a clear sign" from the third imam, whose name was Hussein Ibn Ali. The tradition concludes: "Shiites should have no doubt that he is with us."

In a curious coincidence Obama's first and second names--Barack Hussein--mean "the blessing of Hussein" in Arabic and Persian. His family name, Obama, written in the Persian alphabet, reads O Ba Ma, which means "he is with us," the magic formula in Majlisi's tradition.

As outrageous and outlandish as it may seem, you have to remember, we are dealing with a seventh century culture who stones women if an ankle shows from the bottom of a burka. But there's more:

Mystical reasons aside, the Khomeinist establishment sees Obama's rise as another sign of the West's decline and the triumph of Islam. Obama's promise to seek unconditional talks with the Islamic Republic is cited as a sign that the U.S. is ready to admit defeat. Obama's position could mean abandoning three resolutions passed by the United Nations Security Council setting conditions that Iran should meet to avoid sanctions. Seeking unconditional talks with the Khomeinists also means an admission of moral equivalence between the U.S. and the Islamic Republic. It would imply an end to the description by the U.S. of the regime as a "systematic violator of human rights."

There's no rational reason for Forbes to delete this article, unless it was under pressure from camp obama to do so, and that's likely since it exposes iran's preference from obama and reasons why:

Obama has abandoned claims by all U.S. administrations in the past 30 years that Iran is "a state sponsor of terrorism."

Seen from Tehran, Obama's election would demoralize the U.S. armed forces by casting doubt on their victories in Iraq and Afghanistan, if not actually transforming them into defeat. American retreat from the Middle East under Obama would enable the Islamic Republic to pursue hegemony of the region. Tehran is especially interested in dominating Iraq, thus consolidating a new position that extends its power to the Mediterranean through Syria and Lebanon.

During the World Without America conference, several speakers speculated that Obama would show "understanding of Muslim grievances" with regard to Palestine. Ahmadinejad hopes to persuade a future President Obama to adopt the "Iranian solution for Palestine," which aims at creating a single state in which Jews would quickly become a minority.

Tehran's penchant for Obama, reflected in the official media, increased when the Illinois senator chose Joseph Biden as his vice-presidential running mate. Biden was an early supporter of the Khomeinist revolution in 1978-1979 and, for the past 30 years, has been a consistent advocate of recognizing the Islamic Republic as a regional power. He has close ties with Khomeinist lobbyists in the U.S. and has always voted against sanctions on Iran.

There can be no doubt that camp obama killed that article, and we are in big trouble not just with iran, bet here at home too. If obama is elected, we can say good-bye to the America we so dearly love, and hello to islam. We can say good-bye to freedom and say hello to the thought police, say hello to truth squads and say hello to re-education camps. We can say good-bye to Israel and hello to iran.

The original article was posted here. The google cache is here. I've saved it to my hard drive, am I now a criminal in the eyes of the state?

Spreading the wealth is going to be least of our problems.

Why isn't Detroit a Paradise?

A really good read from Shannon Love over at Chicago Boyz:

One really has to ask the obvious question: If Obama’s economic policies work so well, why isn’t Detroit a paradise?

In 1950, America produced 51% of the GNP for the entire world. Of that production, roughly 70% took place in the eight states surrounding the Great Lakes: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York.

The productive capability of this small area of earth staggers the imagination. Virtually everything that rebuilt the industrial bases of Europe and Japan came from those eight states. Cars, planes, electronics, machine tools, consumer goods, generators, concrete - any conceivable item manufactured by industrial humanity poured out this tiny region and enriched the world. The region shone with widespread prosperity. People migrated from the South and West to work in these Herculean engines of industry.

The wealth, power and economic dominance of the region at the time cannot be overstated. Nothing like it has existed in human history.

Yet, a mere 30 years later, by 1980, we called that area the “rustbelt” and it became synonymous with joblessness, collapsing cities, high crime, failing schools and general hopelessness.

What the hell happened?

Obama happened.

Of course, not Obama personally but rather the same ideas that Obama espouses. What those ideas did to the Great Lakes states, they can do to the entire country.

What did they do wrong?

It's Carnival Time

Haveil Havalim #189 - Elections Edition is up and once again, Esser Agaroth is hosting.

Haveil Havalim is a carnival of Jewish blogs -- a weekly collection of Jewish & Israeli blog highlights, tidbits and points of interest collected from blogs all around the world. It's hosted by different bloggers each week. The term 'Haveil Havalim,' which means "Vanity of Vanities," is from Qoheleth, (Ecclesiastes) which was written by King Solomon. King Solomon built the Holy Temple in Jerusalem and later on got all bogged down in materialism and other 'excesses' and realized that it was nothing but 'hevel,' or in English, 'vanity.'

As always, there are some excellent writers and articles linked, and as indicated, there is quite a bit about the elections, here and in Israel. One of my posts is included, it's been a while since that happened, and as always, I am honored.

There are quite a few surprises this week, like who is really behind Rabbis for Obama, who really runs Election.com (OMG-if that's true!) and what it's like to be a Orthodox Jewish screenwriter for McCain.

Enjoy!
