Something... and Half of Something: Dammit. No more Onion here. Ever.

Dammit. No more Onion here. Ever.

I ain't laughing today, not at the Onion. and in fact, I won't watch another thing they put out, ever again. Don't tip me to them, kay?

Why? Well, because of this:

Satire and comedy have its place and serve its purpose, but that place and purpose is never to mock and humilate our troops and I will not support or tolerate such things from anyone under any circumstances, in any format. What the Onion has done here is no less than shameful, I'm horrified at the thought that our wounded warriors and their loved ones will see this mockery of all they believe in, this mockery of their courage, their dedication to their vows, their bravery and their honor.

I'm done with the Onion. I'll make one last visit to the site to see who their advertisers are, and then, I'll avoid those companies and products as well.

UPDATE: Interestingly, it seems the Onion may have reconsidered the message in this video, perhaps after reading letters like this one from Charles Ziegenfuss, as it seems that the Onion removed the video from its main site and from its youtube page, however, my direct embed link and other direct embed links are still active.

Lighten up.
The Onion is a parody.
More importantly, they are an equal opportunity parody newsite, they will mock anyone.
Maybe they over-reached on this effort.

I am a veteran.
I just shrugged this off.

Your reposting of their video, will increase their readership, because folks who do know of the Onion will explore their site.

I think I'm going to be sick.

(Marvin, a short lived spike, with a larger fall off, I think, for them. I have never found the Onion to be nearly so funny as it thinks it is. They definitely over-reached on this one.)

Marvin, I disliked the idea of posting the video, but I posted it in fairness, because I was speaking of it in a very negative manner, and to give you, and everyone else, the opportunity to view it and to make your own decision, based on what you saw and what you felt about, whether it was in agreement with my feelings or not.

You are the first veteran I have met that "shrugged it off," but then, I have spent a good bit of time around Vietnam Veterans and Desert Strom Veterans and Iraq Veterans.

The fact that you can shrug it off makes me think that you must have served during a time of peace, and that you have not become close with any wounded combat veterans. If you had, then you would surely understand exactly why this video is as awful as it is.

Mocking the foolish: cool, and even admirable.

Mocking those who sacrificed their blood for you: pathetic, and I'd slap any child of mine who did it.

BTW-
former AT2, here, daughter and niece of Army and Navy.

My husband: current Sgt, former CTM2, son, grandson, nephew, cousin, great grandson, etc of Navy: "that's just stupid. There's some things you don't mock."

I'd have to agree. NOT FUNNY.

This video is disgusting.

I enjoy the Onion. At times they are sharp as a tack in their lampooning, even when the target is someone I side with politically. But when they miss, they miss by a mile. And this one is really, really bad.

Thanks for calling it to our attention. First (and last time) I've seen it.

Ha ha, I think that onion video is funny as hell.
Now, I'm sure if they were making fun of gays instead, y'all find it hilarious.
Grow a sense of humor! I'll continue watching the Onion on my TiVo, and will NOT be avoiding their advertisers.

Hey Mia, you know what? It's still a free country, thanks to the same troops you're laughing at. So, you can keep watching the onion if you so choose, no one says you can't.

Still, it's beyond my comprehension that anyone could make fun of honorable men being wounded while in service to this Country and/or find it "funny as hell," and the very idea of discussing anything with someone who feels the way that you do turns my stomach.

So, I'll pass at a private email exchange with you.

Thanks for stopping by.

That's right, it's a free country and you can watch whatever you want. No one ever gets that part, but they know how to say it don't they! Watch: "It's a free country(insert whatever here). As a Combat Veteran, I appreciate all the comments, and yet I find myself wondering if we remembered guys like my uncle who fought in Vietnam, and how he was treated when he returned home. I have to look at those guys every time I return from a deployment, and when they shake my hand, I am the one who feels honored. As a Combat Medic, I saw a lot of the injuries, and now at my current station I am seeing the aftermath. Not only was the video not funny at least to me, but there was something of a message there. Something that says a lot about our nation today. please reply at: court.ellis@gmail.com
