The Sleepy Terrorist

Hasan Akbar tried to escape. Good news is... he didn't succeed. Bad news is... he survived the attempt.

"During the incident, Akbar attempted to overpower one of his MP guards. The MPs quickly regained control of Akbar." Rumor has it that Akbar's jaw had to be wired shut.

Akbar used grenades and a firearm to murder his fellow members of the 101st Airborne Division at Camp Pennsylvania in Kuwait days after the start of the U.S. invasion of Iraq.

Army Capt. Christopher Seifert, 27, and Air Force Maj. Gregory Stone, 40, were killed; 14 other soldiers were injured.

They charged Akbar with two counts of premeditated murder and three counts of attempted premeditated murder. He could get the death penalty if convicted.

One can only hope.

Akbar's lawyers plan to use an insanity or diminished capacity defense in his trial. It seems that Akbar is having trouble staying awake at the hearings and the lawyers say he has sleep apnea. Seems to me this problem could be solved with a cattle prod and I'd be more than happy to volunteer for duty.

Of course, even a scumbag like Akbar is not without support amongst the moonbats.

The trial is going to be a circus. Too bad Akbar wasn't shot while trying to escape.

I am downtrodden

BlackNews.com is reporting that college-educated white women earn less than black men and black women.

Because study in the area is limited, it is hard to pinpoint specific reasons, said Barbara Gault, research director at the Washington-based Institute for Women's Policy Research.

Jeepers. You don't suppose it might have something to do with racial quotas, do you? Or maybe those racist laws that give preference to minorities?

I demand reparations! Anyone with me?

Fifty-Six and Counting

Unbelievable but true! It's Tuesday again and you know what that means:

On January 30, 2005, The Great Pretender once again promised to sign his 180, this time on NBC News’ Meet the Press.

MR. RUSSERT: Would you sign Form 180?

SEN. KERRY: Yes, I will.

Well. Fifty-six days, yup, fifty-six days have passed and still, no 180.

Over at Cao's Blog, they are wondering if Kerry can’t find his pen. So how about we send him a pen! Everyone! Send Kerry a pen and send him the 180. Do it!

Prediction: John Kerry will never sign the 180, never! Why? Because he is a low-life scum sucking piece of shit liar. Still, I have taken a vow to never let the low-life scum sucking piece of shit liar forget that promise to America. I will write that low-life scum sucking piece of shit liar every Tuesday for the rest of his lying scum sucking piece of shit life.

I will send the low-life scum sucking piece of shit liar an email with a link to the form every Tuesday for the rest of his lying scum sucking piece of shit life.

Feel free to join in... and... if you are a blogger, join us in spreading the word every Tuesday.

Yes!!!

Breaking on Drudge:

Zarqawi Surrounded

Iraqi Interior Minister Falah al-Nakib announced today that AbuMusab al-Zarqawi, the leader of al Qaeda in Mesopotamia (Iraq), has been surrounded.

The Sofia News Agency reports the Interior Minister as saying, "He is surrounded in a certain area, and we hope for the best'...

UPDATE: No. Matt took this story down a few minutes after he put it up.

Calling the ACLU...

Members of a violent Central America-based gang have been sent to Arizona to target Minuteman Project volunteers, who will begin a month-long border vigil this weekend to find and report illegal aliens entering this country in violation of the law, guest workers on their way to work, project officials say.

James Gilchrist, a Vietnam veteran who helped organize the vigil to protest the federal government's failure to control illegal immigration, said he has been told that California and Texas leaders of Mara Salvatrucha, or MS-13, have issued orders to teach "a lesson" to the Minuteman volunteers.

Well... it appears that MS-13 might be a bit shorthanded since Guest Gang Member Edwin Reyes won't be there to help. Unless of course, the ACLU springs him from his Miami jail cell in time to attend.

Sir George has made a post on the Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler that expresses many of the same things that have been stuck in my heart.

We did what we could, but in the end, the winners lose.

Yet Another Crime Against Humanity

It appears that the value of a human life is less than that of a cow.

A Cabot farmer convicted of starving his cows to death has begun serving a reparative sentence imposed by Washington County prosecutors as part of a plea bargain.

Christian DeNeergaard pleaded guilty to five misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty in January. He received a suspended one-year sentence as well as 30 days of work crew assignment as part of a deal with prosecutors. DeNeergaard, 47, may not own or possess livestock during his year of probation and must also undergo alcohol-abuse counseling.

In October, then-Washington County State's Attorney Tom Kelly said he would seek at least some jail time for animal neglect, which claimed the lives of at least 11 cows.

"We think some jail time is appropriate," said Kelly in an October interview. "The cows suffered tremendously."

DeNeergaard allegedly neglected to feed or water his herd of 75 cows.

So. DeNeergaard denies some cows food and water. That bastard! Those cows suffered tremendously. Thank goodness DeNeergaard got arrested, prosecuted, thrown in jail, punished! Those poor cows!

Yet again, I ask you, what have we become?

Another Crime Against Humanity

What is happening right now, right here in the United States of America is an abomination.

Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies, and Pinellas Park, Fla., police officers arrest 10-year-old Joshua Heldreth, of Charlotte, N.C., for trespassing on Woodside Hospice property in Pinellas park, Fla. Heldreth was attempting to bring Terri Schiavo a glass of water. (AP Photo/Chris O'Meara)

Like Gabriel Keys, Joshua Heldreth is 10 years old. This is another child, a child hadcuffed and arrested. A child whose only "crime" is to try to save another human being's life. A child who tried to give water to a woman who is literally dying of thirst.

Again, I ask you, what have we become?

Guest Worker Program

Not to be confusted with the Guest Gang Member Program:

MIAMI -- Miami police say they arrested a member of a violent street gang as he pushed a shopping cart carrying two .22-caliber rifles and a shotgun.

Police arrested Edwin Reyes, 23, a citizen of Honduras, in downtown Miami Tuesday. They said he is a member of MS-13 (Mara Salvatrucha 13).

Reyes will be prosecuted federally for possessing firearms. Police said Reyes entered the country illegally, and he also faces administrative immigration charges for being an illegal alien.

The Guest Gang Member Program will help criminals, er, illegal immigrants, um... undocumented gang members like Edwin, who are armed and dangerous felons, er, a threat to society, um... decent, hard working, energetic, ambitious, and optimistic people. They came to this country to rob, er, pillage and burn, um... help make America a stronger and better nation.

Edwin's presence in America has indeed reaffirmed the wisdom of remaining open to the talents and dreams of the world.

Yeah. That's the ticket!

Greer is Incompetent

and because of that, Terri is dying.

Clearwater, Florida - Judge George Greer admits there was an error in fact in the 2000 trial that established Terri Schiavo's "right to die."

When a family friend claimed a 19-year-old Terri was upset that right to die icon Karen Ann Quinlan's parents removed her from life support, the Judge discounted the testimony, reportedly because the Judge said Quinlan died in 1976.

Quinlan was taken off life support in 1976, but died in 1985. A technical error, yes. But Wednesday afternoon, Judge Greer ruled it was not enough to affect the outcome of the 2000 lawsuit that held Terri would not want to be kept alive with severe brain damage.

This is not a right to die case, this is a right to life case. Terri has the right to life, and Greer has denied Terri her right to life because of his ignorance.

Pay attention America: Terri's case is not about living wills or any other kind of will, in fact, it negates the point of having a will.

Terri did not have a living will. If she had, perhaps she would have been dead years ago. If she had, there would have been no basis for a lawsuit by Michael to collect money for her care. If she had, there would have no money given to Michael by a sympathetic jury who did so based on his promise that if they gave him the money, he would spend it on caring for Terri, for therapy, etc.

Instead, Terri is being murdered because a judge is too damn ignorant for his own good. There was no living will. Terry is being killed by an ignorant judge to please her husband.

If you can be put to death without a living will because someone wants to you to be, and based on a judge's ignorance, what good is a living will or any will for that matter????

Try to litigate someone's last wishes in probate court without a will, try to do it based on what someone "said."

Why not? We now have legal precedent.

So? I took a good look around at the so-called elite, and all I can say is, thank goodness for my banner!

I mean really... it doesn't appear that the intellectual elite has any reading comprehension skills at all. No wonder they are all still in school.

Where have all the moonbats gone?

Activists dwindle in South Florida anti-war groups

During the past two years, South Florida's various activist groups -- the Broward Anti-War Coalition, the Palm Beach County Peace and Justice Coalition, both counties' Green Parties, Pax Christi and Peace South Florida among them -- have continued with demonstrations and educational programs. They have bused to a rally in Washington, D.C., picketed a recruitment center and held monthly, and now weekly, demonstrations in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

But their numbers have thinned and, for some, so has their enthusiasm.

Delgado, 31, said it's "frustrating" to be an activist in a nation that's taken a distinct shift to the right. "I think I'm living in the Twilight Zone," she said. "It's surreal."

Meaning: It’s tough to be on the wrong side.

"Truthfully, we're very, very disheartened at the [Bush] re-election," said Jim Worl, 82, a Fort Lauderdale World War II Army vet. "There was a great letdown, a great letdown."

Meaning: President Bush keeps proving us wrong faster than we can change directions.

The movement has also spread out to encompass other matters. "We've tried to address other issues related to foreign policy, civil liberties," Lefrak said. People tackling those issues are taking less visible courses, such as writing or e-mailing politicians, creating Web sites and blogs, or petition drives.

Meaning: We keep slinging sh*t hoping something will stick.

Cara Campbell of Fort Lauderdale, co-chair of the Broward County Green Party, advocates boycotts rather than protests. "This is all about consumption," she said.

Meaning: Park your car and walk, well everyone except me.

Whatever the approach, Delgado said activists need to keep their spirits up. "If we take an attitude of being fatalistic and hopeless, then we're setting ourselves up for more failure," she said. "We have nothing else left at this point than to hope."

Meaning: We have no point at all.

South Florida Protest Warrior is making a difference! (Extra commentary there contributed by MeasureMan at MightyRighty.com). Thanks MM for the clarifications!

The fact is that the anti-war crowd is intimidated by our presence, they do not like being confronted with the truth, they cannot defend their views or their actions, and many of them avoid these demonstrations because of our presence. The anti-war crowd is very distressed about this, to the point where they attempted (unsuccessfully) to get the ACLU involved to block us from exercising our rights to free speech.

Protest Warrior Rocks!

Today's Protest Round-up

Today, America's moonbats hit the streets against the Iraq War, the War which freed Iraqis from the evil dictatorship of Saddam Hussein. They condemned our troops and voiced support for the "freedom fighters" who are blowing up civilians, including children, in Iraq.

Meanwhile... in the real world...

Naught’s Solved by War?

Naught’s Solved by War?

A flickering dawn lights Islam’s hills
A faint emerging light.
Can the torch of Lady Liberty
Flare away Medieval night?
How fitting our bold symbol
Of all that’s good and right
Eyewitness to the Jihad’s wrath,
Stands forefront in this fight.

Her torch is not mere sculpted bronze,
To those in Mullahs’ chain’s;
But a lamp held high against the sky
Showing them that hope remains.
Their feudal sheiks view us with scorn,
So obsessed with earthly pleasure;
But one thing they fear that we hold dear,
Is that Bill of Rights we treasure.

We drove a tyrant from his throne,
Brought his people free election.
Think it concerns them overmuch,
WMD’s escaped detection?
Just behold those blue-stained fingers,
Like the Lady’s torch, held high,
So proud of their brave turnout,
Putting Liberals to the lie.

How say you now nay Sayers?
What of your dire predictions?
Like fools you swore naught’s solved by war,
Another of your Liberal fictions.
But now you face a hard clear truth:
A truth that you forswore:
This aborning Bush Democracy
Was midwifed by his war.

Within the womb of Islam,
Freedom’s heart so feebly beats.
Is it up us to make it thrive,
To birth it their streets?
What say you disbelieving Libs,
How now shall this thing go?
Shall we execute your exit plan,
Or stay and help it grow?

Justice?

Today, the body of nine year old Jessica Lunsford was found. She was murdered by a registered sex offender who then dumped her body.

John Evander Couey, 46, confessed to kidnapping and killing Jessica.

Couey has an extensive criminal record that includes 24 arrests for burglary, carrying a concealed weapon and indecent exposure. In 1991, he was arrested in Kissimmee on a charge of fondling a child under age 16. Records don't show how the case was resolved.

During a house burglary in 1978, Couey was accused of grabbing a girl in her bedroom, placing his hand over her mouth and kissing her, Dawsy said. Couey was sentenced to 10 years in prison but was paroled in 1980.

Now on a suicide watch, Couey is being visited in his cell every 15 minutes by police officers to protect his life.

On Fox News Georgia Congressman Lynn Westmoreland(R) notes that (paraphrased) "We have a woman alive in Florida who should be kept alive and people have been allowed to kill her. On the other hand we have a scumbag who has admitted molesting and killing a little nine year old girl that police say is on suicide watch and being visited every 15 minutes. Heck, give him a gun and tell him you'll be back in a few minutes."

Something is terribly wrong in this country.

Mary Schindler, Terri Schiavo's mother, stood before a microphone just a short time ago and said:

"In that building behind me my daughter is starving to death..."

We laugh together. We cry together. We smile together. We talk together...

Please, please, please, save my little girl.

Is anyone listening? Do something! Please.

Murder Most Foul

Today, someone asked me the question. "If you were Terri, would you want to live like she does?"

I am sure we have all speculated on that question, in deciding what we think Terri's fate should be, we all try to apply the conditions to ourselves. Or, at least we think we do. We make living wills, not knowing what the future holds and we choose to live or die in certain situations.

Reality is another thing.

In 1998, I had a brain tumor. A big brain tumor. A brain tumor the size of a man's fist. It took up one third of the room in my head. Although I had headaches for years, severe headaches, I never once complained to my doctor. I figured, what did I want with pain killers and the like, so, I just suffered through them. Silly me, and all that time, the tumor grew. And grew. It is amazing how much pain you can tolerate when it starts small and just grows. You learn to live with it, or I should say, I learned to live with it.

Finally, I reached the critical stage and after three days of the most severe pain I have ever endured, I complained to my doctor.

With a brain tumor that size, you don't have any options. It was surgery right away, or as soon as they can get the swelling down enough to open up my skull without it exploding. It was that, or, die. I am not ashamed to say it was the most frightening two weeks of my life.

I had plenty of pain killers to dull the pain and the fear, still, I was terrified. What if something went wrong? What if I came out of the operating room unable to care for myself any longer? What if I lost the ability to think, to respond, to move?

In 1998, I faced that reality. Decisions had to be made. Real decisions, based on the reality of this thing in my head. I had been afraid to die and suddenly, I was afraid to live.

So, I made the decision. I had no choice. When faced with a very real possibility of being severely disabled as a result of the surgery to remove the tumor in my head, I made my decision.

It was a highly personal decision, and I don't like talking about it. But because of Terri, who is dying even as I write these words, I will talk about it. Because of Terri, who will spend the next week dying, I will talk about it. Why? Because I can and Terri cannot.

I do not claim to know Terri's mind, her thoughts, her wants, or what her decision might be. I speak for myself, for a decision I made when faced with the very real possibility of living my life as Terri lives hers.

I decided that, if you breathe, you have life. I decided that if G-d saw fit to give me breath, to give me life, I should breathe and I should live. I decided that if G-d saw fit to take my breath, to take my life, I should die. Basherte.

As long as I could breathe on my own, let me live as G-d sees fit. Sustain me. If I could not breathe on my own, if G-d took my breath, let me die.

I decided that if G-d gave me breath, and therefore, gave me life, if I then asked my loved ones to take that life by any means, that would be suicide, and, it would be asking my loved ones to do murder.

I decided that I would not commit suicide under any circumstances and I would not ask my loved ones to do murder under any circumstances. I left my life in G-d's hands, where it has always been.

That was my decision, and I thank G-d it was mine to make.

G-d has given Terri the gift of life.

Terri is now being murdered. Slowly, but surely, by her "husband," by a judge, and yes, by each and every one of us who sit idle while her life is taken from her.

Suicide by Dozer

I received an email from my friend Warren concerning this post about Rachel Corrie, the moonbat who was killed while dozer diving in support of terrorists. Warren works in construction, and has lots of experience with bulldozers, including the one that squished Rachel Corrie into St. Pancake. Here is what Warren had to say:

we have similar machines less the armor. I have run a D-9 and in the civilian model, visibility is minimal (there is a 30 to 40 foot blind area directly in front of and behind you) and you can not hear anything other than the engine and tracks. You would not be able to hear a bullhorn even in an open cab model. We always tell our folks on the ground to give the machines a WIDE berth and MAKE SURE the operator SEES YOU and knows where you are! ALWAYS stand off to the side well away and NEVER directly in front of or behind the tractor EVER.

Standard CAT D-9 w/ ballistic armament (awesome piece of machinery)
Owner : IDF
Weight: 105600 lb. without armor plating or bullet proof windows or optional 50 cal. machine gun turret.
Length w/ Blade and Ripper : 27.8 ft.
Maximum Speed: Forward 7.3 MPH in 3rd gear
Reverse 8.9 MPH in 3rd gear
Normal Operating/Working Speed: Forward 2.4 MPH 1st gear

WHY would anyone stand in front of this thing and blame the Operator who has VERY limited ability to see out of it. The average person in reasonable health can walk faster than a dozer can move on flat ground. That girl chose her own tragic fate.

So there you have it. Thank you Warren!

Be sure to check out Moonbattery on this, Van Helsing got this posted earlier today, and he does have a way with words. Fruit Roll Up! Heh.

Rachel Corrie Round-up

As we continue the ever-popular search for the ever popular Moonbat of the Year™, I thought I would take a look at the winner for 2003, today, on the anniversary of her death.

Yes, on March 16, 2003, in the town of Rafah in southern Gaza, Rachel Corrie, 23, an "international peace protester," dropped to her knees in front of an Israeli bulldozer during an IDF anti-terrorism action. She was... shall we say... squished, flat, and therefore shall forever be known as St. Pancake.

Her fellow protesters moonbats called it murder, even though they repeatedly defied warnings to leave the area, and the investigation determined that the driver of the bulldozer could not see Rachel Corrie. According to the inquiry, "the windows of the bulletproof bulldozer are very small and the visibility is very limited, and the bulldozer operator did not see the woman."

The group to which Rachel Corrie belonged, the International Solidarity Movement, published "before" and "after" pictures claiming to show that the bulldozer operator could in fact see her.

According to the International Solidarity Movement, this picture was taken immediately before the squishing:

And, according to the International Solidarity Movement, this picture was taken immediately after the squishing:

The pictures raise many questions, don't you think? Questions such as "which of these things are not like the other?"

An examination of those two pictures provides the answer: note that the background of the pictures are completely different, note the color of the sky, they could not have been taken close to the same point in time. And, note the difference in the two bulldozers shown in these supposed "before" and "after" pictures, they are not the same.

Indeed both CNN, which ran the two pictures, and the New York Times, which ran the first one, published the following corrections:

CNN, March 25, 2003:

Caption clarification: Photos by an International Solidarity Movement eyewitness show Rachel Corrie protesting earlier, and then later, after she was hit by an Israeli bulldozer in Gaza on Sunday.

The New York Times, March 26, 2003:

A picture caption on March 17 with an article about an American protester who was crushed by an Israeli Army bulldozer in Gaza referred incorrectly to the bulldozer shown. It was one that the protester, Rachel Corrie, had earlier tried to stop from destroying a Palestinian home. It was not the one that killed her.

The photographer himself later admitted that no one with a camera had been present at the site just before Rachel's accident, that the picture with the megaphone had actually been taken hours earlier, and that at the time of the accident Rachel was not in sight of the driver.

Nevertheless the murder charge has persisted and worshipers of St. Pancake, as well as pro-Palestinian web sites, including the International Solidarity Movement's own web site, continue to present the two pictures with incorrect and misleading labels.

Another photo in the photographer's own report, posted on pro-Palestinian web sites, shows Rachel's true proportion in relation to the enormous size of the bulldozer, making it clear how the driver could easily have missed seeing her.

Who are these "international peace protesters" to whom Rachel Corrie belonged?

The group calls itself the International Solidarity Movement. They are a group of European and American activists founded and led by Palestinians. Their agenda is not peace but the Palestinian cause.

They are enablers of terrorism and therefore, terrorists themselves.

Because they know that Israel, unlike the Palestinian terrorists, cares about civilian casualties, they present themselves as "human shields," entering combat zones against orders and hindering Israeli efforts to restrain terrorism. In May of 2003, members of the group entered the Church of the Nativity, where known Palestinian terrorists were taking a stand against Israeli forces.

They describe themselves as a "peace army." They claim to use only nonviolent tactics. But how nonviolent can one claim to be if one's actions help those who do resort to violence to continue doing their work?

They say they are trying to stop Israel from destroying Palestinian homes. They do not mention that these are buildings that Palestinian gunmen use as cover, or that these buildings hide tunnels used for arms smuggling. They do not mention that Gaza is the center of operations for Hamas, where terrorists are trained, where attacks are launched, and where terrorists hide. They do not mention that Israeli troops entered Gaza after a series of increasingly bloody attacks on civilians planned and executed by Hamas.

Rachel Corrie, an American college student from Olympia, Washington, was a pro-Palestinian activist and member of the International Solidarity Movement. She worked with Palestinian children in Gaza. She felt for their poverty and their suffering. She also helped teach them how to hate America and how to hate Israel. On February 15, 2003, at a rally in Rafah, surrounded by Palestinian children, Rachel Corrie burned an American flag, her face torn with hatred.

I would like to ask these "peace" activists some questions:

If you care so much for children, why do you try to prevent Israel from stopping the activity of terrorists who intentionally murder children as well as other innocent civilians?

Why do you care more about Palestinian property than about Jewish lives?

If you truly stand for peace, will you have the honesty and the courage not only to resist Israeli troops, who obey the laws of civilization, but to ride an Israeli bus and take your chances with those who do not?

Or does "peace" mean trying your best to make sure that terrorists can operate freely?

Perhaps the world at large can also try to answer these questions.

The International Solidarity Movement has this quotation on its web site: "The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it." (Albert Einstein).

And perhaps also because of the people who don't do evil but who make it easier for others to do it.

Or is there really any difference?

------------------------------------------

(note: most of the foregoing was put together from various places on the internet, it has been on my 'puter for a long time. I no longer know who wrote it or where I found it. I would like to give credit to the author(s), but I do not know who they are).

Yoo Hoo... John....

Well. Forty-four days, yup, forty-four days have passed and still, no 180.

Sign the 180 Senator. Sign the 180.

Never Again?

"Hitler was great; I can't say more"

So says Udo Voigt, leader of the German far-right Nationaldemokratische Partei Deutschlands (NPD), who faces inquiry for 'glorification' of Nazism. "Adolf Hitler was a great German statesman," says he, as he sits in a room darkened by bombproof shutters.

"There are no busts of the Führer in Herr Voigt’s bunker-like office, just maps of Germany as it was, various German and neo-Nazi flags and a poster that declares: “May 1945, Nothing to Celebrate.”

Herr Voigt, 52 and a former army captain, is the mastermind. Since taking charge in 1996 he has converted the NPD from a mouthpiece for embittered war veterans into "a radical voice for the silent majority". He addresses rallies using the slogan: "We are everywhere."

The NPD is widening its appeal. Last month, during the anniversary of the Dresden bombing, 8,000 neo-Nazis marched silently through the streets, and they seemed to enjoy the sympathy of many citizens.

Voigt is promising violent retaliation against any who oppose them by force. And violence is the calling card and the legacy of the nationalist movement in Germany. "We will no longer be the whipping-boys of the left," said Voigt. "Whoever attacks us, should expect to get hurt."

Voigt, and the NPD use "freedom of speech" as their basis to justify the propagation of Nazi slogans and philosophies. The NPD won more than 9 per cent of the vote in Saxony and has become a pivotal element in the Dresden parliament. Its representatives walked out of Parliament rather than stand in silence for the victims of Auschwitz.

He began by harnessing the raw energy of eastern Germany’s racist skinheads, recruiting them from pubs and placing them under near- military discipline. "More than 600 have passed through our training centers, and many of them have become our leadership cadres," he boasted, pointing at a picture of a graduation ceremony. With the help of other far-right parties it is starting to make inroads in western Germany. "We are now in the middle of society, not on the fringes."

So says Udo Voight.

Once was not enough!

Many adults in the United States retain their political allegiances four months after the last presidential ballot, according to a poll by Zogby International. 46 per cent of respondents would vote for Republican George W. Bush in a new election, while 42 per cent would support Democratic nominee John Kerry.

Polling Data

If the 2004 presidential election took place again, who would you vote for?

46% George W. Bush (R)

42% John Kerry (D)

7% A third party candidate

As Chrissie would say... La la la...

This is interesting when you consider that U.S. media coverage of last year's election was three times more likely to be negative toward President Bush than Democratic challenger John Kerry, according to a study released Monday.

Yep. According to the Project for Excellence in Journalism, 36 percent of stories about Bush were negative compared to 12 percent about Kerry, a Massachusetts senator. Only 20 percent were positive toward Bush compared to 30 percent of stories about Kerry that were positive, according to the report by the Project for Excellence in Journalism.

The study looked at 16 newspapers of varying size across the country, four nightly newscasts, three network morning news shows, nine cable programs and nine Web sites through the course of 2004.

Kerry still lost and he would lose again.

L'Chaim ~ To Life!

Vince Aut Moire reports here that Michael Schiavo has refused the offer of $1,000,000 made by California businessman Robert Herring to leave his "wife" Terri alone.

I agree with him that this is a good thing, good because if this deal had succeeded, how many Michael Schiavo wannabes would come crawling out from under their rocks? And... like Vince Aut Moire, I'm interested to see if Mr. Herring is willing to take that million and give it to Terri's parents via Terrisfight.org.

I have received many appeals to speak out for Terri, and I have not done so, I have stayed quiet for several reasons, most of which I am not willing to go into. I now feel the time has come to end my silence.

I will say: there is not one single solitary person on this earth who can know what it is like to be Terri right now. There is not one single solitary person on this earth who can know what she feels, thinks, or wants.

In such a situation, how can we seek answers from a court of law ruled by men, men who sanction abominations such as the murder of innocent babies and call it the right to choose. I know that I would not want my life to be in their bloody hands. Would you?

They can strike the name of "G-d" from their temples of law, and rule as men. They can make laws to kill babies that are an inconvenience and they can make laws to kill the helpless that are an expense. But they cannot set themselves above the judgment of G-d.

We must ask ourselves, what would G-d want. Whatever your concept of G-d is, you must acknowledge that G-d has not chosen to end Terri's life, she lives as you and I do. She breathes, as you and I do. If she is denied nourishment, she will die, as you and I would. If I denied you nourishment, and you died as a result, it would be murder. Terri's life is in G-d's hands, it always has been, as is your life and my life.

When I ask myself what would G-d want, I know where to look for the answer. Judaism acknowledges that to save a life is to save humanity and the Torah does not allow for euthanasia in any situation. The bottom line is that the Torah teaches us that every moment of life is intrinsically valuable; life itself is never futile. Never!

I've said my piece. Others have said it better than I, and they have ideas, good ideas, to help Terri live. I have written a letter, suggested to me by another, I pray that it makes a difference.

The Enemy Within

The Counterterrorism Blog reports:

Fifteen Senators of both parties, led by Sens. Susan Collins and Charles Schumer, sent a letter today to Sec. of State Rice about Saudi Arabia's violations of religious freedom and the continued export of extremist teachings from Saudi Arabia. The Senators express their “appreciation for the Department of State’s 2004 designation of Saudi Arabia as a ‘country of particular concern’ (CPC) for its systematic, ongoing, and egregious violations of religious freedom.” Moreover, they urge Sec. Rice to persuade the Saudi government to stop the distribution of such material and to implement other measures to curtail Saudi-based extremism. The State Department has a March 15 deadline, under the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998, to take action against Saudi Arabia for the designation of the Kingdom as a severe violator of religious freedom.

I read the report and it leaves no questions unanswered about why muslims migrate to America and it leaves no questions unanswered about why they should not be welcome here.

I can't help but wonder, when are we going to wake up? We are fighting a war against terrorism. If they are using mosques here in America to incite hatred against Americans and to encourage terrorism, the mosque needs to be demolished and the perpetuators need to go to jail.

We have laws here in the United States of America. Laws that state if you use your home as a warehouse for illegal drugs, you go to jail and you lose your home. We have laws that state if you use your car to transport illegal drugs, you go to jail and you lose your car.

How about a little zero tolerance here? Islam will use our laws as a way to destroy us unless we start using our laws as a way to destroy islam.

Anti-War or Just Anti-American?

From the most excellent "Best of the Web" by James Taranto:

With the second anniversary of Iraq's liberation fast approaching, "antiwar" activists in London, Paris and elsewhere are planning more protests. Columnist Amir Taheri had some fun with them:

I spent part of last week ringing up the organizers of the anti-war events with a couple of questions. The first: Would they allow anyone from the newly-elected Iraqi parliament to address the gatherings? The second: Would the marches include expressions of support for the democracy movement in Arab and other Muslim countries, notably Iraq, Lebanon and Syria?

In both cases the answer was a categorical no, accompanied by a torrent of abuse about "all those who try to justify American aggression against Iraq."

Taheri concludes with some pertinent, albeit rhetorical, questions:

Why are so many Westerners, living in mature democracies, ready to march against the toppling of a despot in Iraq but unwilling to take to the streets in support of the democratic movement in the Middle East?

Is it because many of those who will be marching in support of Saddam Hussein this month are the remnants of totalitarian groups in the West plus a variety of misinformed idealists and others blinded by anti-Americanism?

Or is it because they secretly believe that the Arabs do not deserve anything better than Saddam Hussein?

Fatwa or Al-taqiyya?

Muslim clerics in Spain have issued what they called the world's first fatwa, or Islamic edict, against Osama bin Laden as the country marked the first anniversary of the Madrid train bombings that killed 191 people.

The clerics accuse Bin Laden of abandoning his religion and urged others of their faith to denounce the al Qaeda leader, who is believed to be hiding out near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

Yeah. Right. They say fatwa, I hear Al-taqiyya.

Meanwhile... Spaniards lit candles, laid flowers and observed a long, mournful silence Friday to mark the first anniversary of the country's worst-ever terror attack -- 191 people were killed and more than 1,500 people were injured when 10 backpack bombs exploded on packed commuter trains on March 11, 2003.

Consider that a year ago, these same Spaniards were screaming in the streets to pull out of Iraq and give the terrorists what they wanted. Spain has proved itself to be irrelevant to the issues and challeges faced today. They appear to have idea what the consequences of appeasing terrorists will be in the future.

"There is no security, no safety, in the appeasement of evil."

"To sit back hoping that some day, some way, someone will make things right is to go on feeding the crocodile, hoping that he will eat you last -- but eat you he will."

-- Ronald Reagan

The situation in Iraq is nothing but a small part of the islamic agenda to cleanse all lands of all kufirs and infidels, and to rule those lands according to islamic law.

If the islamic agenda is successful, the future might not be to their liking. Today, they are free to support terrorism, spread lies and sow dissention only because there are those today who fight the good fight to defend them.

"We're blessed with the opportunity to stand for something - for liberty and freedom and fairness - and these are things worth fighting for, worth devoting our lives to. And we have good reason to be hopeful and optimistic. We've made much progress already. So let us go forth with good cheer and stout hearts, happy warriors out to seize back a country and a world to freedom."

"Great nations which fail to meet their responsibilities are consigned to the dust bin of history."

-- Ronald Reagan

Because of the efforts of the brave men and women who serve in the United States Military, the islamic agenda will not be successful in this lifetime. Spaniards may sleep well and warm in their beds tonight, and enjoy a lifetime of indolence and indifference. God Bless America!

Off the deep end

Meet Nathan Alan Winkler:

Nathan was "apparently enraged by a Bush-Cheney sticker on a woman's sport utility vehicle and now faces felony charges after chasing her for miles, allegedly trying to run her off the road."

"He told our officers that he just got mad at her, so he went after her," said Tampa police spokesman Joe Durkin. Winkler had a sign in his Nissan sedan that read, "Never Forget Bush's Illegal War Murdered Thousands in Iraq." "Maybe he has that sign with him so he's prepared any time he comes up against a Republican," Durkin said.

His father, 59-year-old John Winkler, said it didn't sound like his son. "I know that he's very anti-Bush. But I don't see him doing anything like that," said the elder Winkler. "He's the least aggressive person I know."

Well pop, sounds like you don't know many people for comparison. I hate to be the one to tell you but it appears that your son is a certified freak as well as a danger to society. What he did was not the actions of a reasonably sane person. That woman had children in her vehicle.

I was in the Tampa area not too long ago, and attended a counter protest to the weekly St.Pete for Peace anti-war demonstration at Baywalk. My sign said "Help! I am surrounded by America Hating Idiots."

One of the St. Pete regular protestors was very abusive to the passer-bys who thanked me for being there. He told people to fuck off, called one woman a filthy slut, and he told me "when the revolution starts, I'm coming for you."

Well, in case Nathan's actions means the revolution has started, you can find me tonight outside of the Miami Teachers Union Hall, protesting the Miami forum on dissent. Speakers include CodePinko's Medea Benjamin. You know, the same Medea Benjamin who was recently in Iraq to donate $600,000 to the support "other side" in Fallujah. Also on the agenda tonight is terrorist lawyer Lynne Stewart, who was recently convicted of aiding and abetting her terrorist clients. Deserter Camillo Mejia will there to complain about a world that actually expected him to honor his oath and complete his contract.

Hijack via Google

"What if a company with great power on the Web started adding its own links to your page, drawing visitors away from your page to other sites of its own choosing?"

Google is now hijacking websites and altering the links, all as a matter of convenience for its users.

A new feature of the company's popular Google Toolbar for the Internet Explorer browser actually adds links right into the body of any Web page. The links lead to Google's own map site or to other sites Google selects.

And, it installs itself as a part of Internet Explorer.

Google Toolbar users beware.

More bullshit arab propaganda

This time from our friends the saudis. Drudge is linking to a UPI story of a "Marine" who is claiming that the US fabricated the capture of Saddam, that Saddam Hussein tried to fight his way out, and that he was not captured in a spider hole.

"I was among the 20-man unit, including eight of Arab descent, who searched for Saddam for three days in the area of Dour near Tikrit, and we found him in a modest home in a small village and not in a hole as announced," Abou Rabeh said.

He said Saddam himself fired at them with a gun from the window of a room on the second floor. Then they shouted at him in Arabic: "You have to surrender. ... There is no point in resisting."

"Later on, a military production team fabricated the film of Saddam's capture in a hole, which was in fact a deserted well," Abou Rabeh said.

Sounds like bullshit right from the start, a lebanese "Marine" quoted in a saudi paper. A brave saddam fighting back. The evil Americans tell a lie.

So. The United Press International pastes it on the front page. And, as is becoming the norm, a blogger gets the facts.

The Neoconservative notes that:

His story is a load of bull. Saddam was captured by Task Force 121, which is composed mainly of Delta Force (more information available here). No marines participated in the capture of Saddam Hussein. He's just another person looking to make a quick buck.

Neoconservative also shares a link to this post made on a popular online forum which completely debunks the whole thing:

First of all, there were no major Marine units in Iraq at the time that Saddam was captured. The last Marines to leave Iraq left at the end of September '03 (I was in the last Marine convoy to leave Iraq, trust me on this one). Marines did not re-enter Iraq en masse until January of '04.

Second, I tried searching the Marine Locator on Marine Online, this guy has no account (something that's been required for a few years now).

Third, I tried searching the Marine Corps Uniform Board tool for looking up who has been approved for a Combat Action Ribbon (something he would have received had he, you know, ever been shot at or shot at someone), his name does not show up (tool located here: https://lnweb1.manpower.usmc.mil/ma...tion.nsf/search).

Fourth, I looked up who was killed around that time here: http://icasualties.org/oif/BY_DOD.aspx and couldn't find either anyone of Sudanese descent, nor any Marines (goes back to my first point) killed around that time.

This guy is making it up.

Yes, and who could forget this (hat tip to Thumbelina at MightyRighty.com):

Samir worked with the military as an interpreter. He was at the remote farm on December 13th when U.S. forces discovered a secret hiding place. The next few minutes would feel like a lifetime for Samir.

"We saw the hole for the bunker, but it hard to believe someone live in that hole. It was really small," Samir remembers. "They shot in there and he started yelling, "Don't shoot, don't shoot, don't kill me.'" So I had to talk to him. I was the translator. I said, 'Just come out.' He kept saying, 'Don't shoot. Don't kill me.'"

I am not so sure that the motive is to make a buck, I think the motive is to denigrate the United States of America and our Military, while glorifying Saddam after his humiliating capture. A motive obviously shared by our media, who ran with this story without bothering to check the facts. Shame on the UPI and 13WHAM-TV.

UPDATE: "It's not true, period," Pentagon spokeswoman Cheryl Irwin.

March 9, 2005 Update: The Jawa Report

Below are the AP pictures of Giuliana Sgrena's car, the very same car that she claims was shot at "300 or 400 times."

Jeepers! Three or four hundred shots by the elite and expert 3rd Infantry Division, and you have to ask: where are the bullet holes?

The answer offered by Scared Monkeys:

1. The US Soldiers are brilliant marksmen by placing multiple bullets through the same hole.

2. The US soldiers are terrible marksmen, firing 300-400 rounds at the automobile and missing a huge percentage of them.

3. She is a lying #$%#$% communist, who has an ax to grind against the US and its Iraqi strategy and is using this to further her own aims.

Sgrena is being exposed for the liar that she is over at The Jawa Report, and don't miss these posts either:

The Art of Al-taqiyya

From the Washington Post:

Muslim opinion of America is changing — for the better, according to a poll released yesterday at the District-based Heritage Foundation.

Described as "dramatic" and categorized as "the first substantial shift of public opinion in the Muslim world" since September 11, the findings reveal that pronounced Islamic distaste of the United States is waning.

Based on a survey conducted Feb. 1-6 of 1,200 adults in Indonesia — the world's largest Muslim country — the poll found that 40 percent favored U.S.-led efforts against global terrorism — up from 23 percent in 2003.

Yay! Woo hoo! They like us! They finally like us. Yippee! < /sarcasm >

Get a grip, for crying out loud, get a grip! Should we care if they like us? No. Should we care if they say they like us? No. But more importantly, do they really they like us more? Or even hate us less? No.

This is, I believe, a direct result of negative press that islam hates Americans, as well as repeated demands by Americans that Muslims speak out against terrorism. Should what they say make a difference?

Al-taqiyya is a word used for the practice of Muslims blatantly lying to non-Muslims. Muslims consider the act of Al-taqiyya or lying to non-Muslims to be a good work. Especially if it helps support the war against the infidel. In case you've forgotten, you are the infidel, so am I, so is each and every American who is not muslim.

From "Islam's Shell Game" by Johnn "Trike" Schroeder

Muslims say one thing and think another, because their holy book allows such action in the furtherance of their religion. They do not punish the insane killers in their communities who strike at Americans, because they do not see the terrorists as wrong, rather they see them as warriors, honorable and holy themselves.

Thus there is no conflict with their religion, and no real dichotomy exists between the terrorists and Islam as a whole. If one acts as a neutral (for no Muslim speaks out one way or the other as a rule on terrorists and their acts), to create a sort of wall behind which our enemies can move and strike at us, they act as our enemies as well!

We have a decision to make here, just how are we to protect ourselves, when we allow such a tactical and strategic screw up to exist in our very midst! Who is killing us and our allies, MUSLIMS, not the little old ladies the airport security strip searches to protect us from illegal knitting needles!

We need to start seriously applying common sense while we still have a few people not yet blown up or under threat of being so.

The terrorists want one thing, (just as the Koran calls for), a world united as Islam or nothing! This is about world conquest as a religious duty.

Let us begin to understand that we face an enemy who will happily kill you, your family and friends and celebrate their own death doing it. It matters not if you are on the right or the left, they want us DEAD! Nothing else will do for them.

And unless we get in gear, they will do just that to far too many of us. as we wring our hands and cringe, crying out "Can’t we just get along?" If we do not act, that will be our pathetic epitaph.

So. All of a sudden Muslims like America and Americans? Yeah. Sure they do.

Al-taqqiya is a war tactic, the sheep's clothing worn by the wolves in our midst. and you can't see the forest for the trees.

Sign the 180 Senator

It's Tuesday again and you know what that means:

On January 30, 2005, The Great Pretender once again promised to sign his 180, this time on NBC News’ Meet the Press:

MR. RUSSERT: Many people who’ve been criticizing you have said: Senator, if you would just do one thing and that is sign Form 180, which would allow historians and journalists complete access to all your military records. Thus far, you have gotten the records, released them through your campaign. They say you should not be the filter. Sign Form 180 and let the historians…

SEN. KERRY: I’d be happy to put the records out. We put all the records out that I had been sent by the military. Then at the last moment, they sent some more stuff, which had some things that weren’t even relevant to the record. So when we get–I’m going to sit down with them and make sure that they are clear and I am clear as to what is in the record and what isn’t in the record and we’ll put it out. I have no problem with that.

MR. RUSSERT: Would you sign Form 180?

SEN. KERRY: But everything, Tim…

MR. RUSSERT: Would you sign Form 180?

SEN. KERRY: Yes, I will.

Well. Thirty-seven days have passed and still, no 180. Jeepers. The Great Pretender must have forgotten all about it! So? You should consider it your civic duty to remind The Great Pretender to keep his promise to the citizens of the United States of America.

Send the Senator an email with a link to the the form. Have your friends do so too. and... if you are a blogger, join us for the Tuesday Blogburst.

Things that make you go hmmmm...

Iraqi Sources Claim U.S. Forces Arrest Leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq
15:41 Mar 06, '05 / 25 Adar 5765

Sources in Iraq claim that United States Armed Forces have arrested the leader of al Qaeda in Iraq, Abu-Masab a-Zarqawi.

Some sources say he was arrested with three assistants, while others claim he was arrested before Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld’s last visit to Iraq.

The United States has posted a $25 million award for information leading to the capture of the al Qaeda leader.

hmmmm....

The Saudi paper Al Watan reports that al-Zarqawi has been in custody for several weeks.

Meanwhile, CNN is running a picture show of al-Zarqawi with associates, and last week "al Qaeda in Iraq" published a 43 page online magazine.

This guy has been arrested more times than arafat died.

Thirty-five years ago

March 6, 1970 at 11:55 a.m.

Three members of the radical activist group known as the Weather Underground, Diana Oughton, Ted Gold and Terry Robbins, blew themselves straight to hell that day, it seems that their expertise at bomb-making left much to be desired.

The bomb they were making was intended to blow up a dance, a dance held at Fort Dix. Good riddance. Had they been better bomb-makers, instead of killing themselves, they would have killed an untold number of American soldiers. All in the name of peace.

If they had survived, they may very well have been defended by Lynne Stewart, who has represented other members of the group. A strong supporter of terrorists since she began her career as a lawyer, Lynne loves representing terrorists of the home grown variety only slightly less than she likes representing the imported islamic variety.

Lynne will now reap what she has sown, having been convicted of aiding and abetting the terrorists she represents. Can't hide behind the law forever Lynne. I hope you rot in jail.

I'm making a list...

I love the internet, I do! You can find darn near anything, from how to Make Your Own Anti-Mind Control Aluminum Foil Deflector Beanie to "disney's naked lesbians" and "festive midgets on horseback" (hmmm... wonder what the googlebot will make of that).

Amidst all the helpful websites with services to sell, I found one that offers a "permanent solution to common problems." This one is sure to be useful to everyone:

HITMAN - You give us a picture, we'll give you an autopsy report!

We are a privately-owned independent enterprise that specializes in reliable contract killings. We offer a variety of assassination services, customized to suit particular needs of our clients.

Our firm consists of a small team of highly-skilled, and experienced, specialists. We are the industry leader in innovative killing approaches and have built a lasting reputation over decades of outstanding services for clients on five continents.

Well! If I had the money, I could keep these guys busy for a few years. No slight would be too petty, no grudge too small. I took a peek at their testimonial page and its seems that, when it comes to revenge, there are others who are just as petty as I am:

"I thought this site was a joke, so I sent them an email, as a joke, and asked if they would consider killing my schoolteacher for free, because I was a student and couldn't afford to pay them. Next morning there were a hundred police cars in front of my school, and I walked in just as they were carrying a corpse in a body bag. When I checked my email, later on, I got a reply with one word: 'done'. It was kind of scary, but I guess I'm glad. I never told anyone." -- V.J. -- High school Student

I don't think I would qualify for a charity hit, even if killing some of those on my list could be considered a public service.

"This guy moved in next door. I didn't like the way he looked in that shirt. So, I called HITMAN. I never saw him again. Or his shirt. Serves him right." -- D.G. -- Retired Truck Driver

Kinda gives the "fashion police" school of thought the old heave ho, ya know? There is this girl who works in my building...

Contracting with Hitman seems easy enough. They are only an email away. They promise a "customized package that is best-suited for your particular situation." You provide them with the name of your mark, along with a photo and personal details, and take a vacation; Hitman will "make sure one of our specialists sends flowers to the grieving widow while you enjoy your Margaritas on the beach." Sounds like a plan to me.

The top ten - according to newspaper coverage:

1 -- Shrunken Head Identified as That of a Corporate Big Wig
2 -- Unidentified Human Remains Found in Can of Dog Food
3 -- Olympic Medallist Dies in Failed Suicide Attempt
4 -- Used-car Dealer Drowns in Public Restroom
5 -- Prominent Local Politician Dies in a Whorehouse
6 -- Parachutist Falls to his Death as Chute Fails to Open
7 -- Chef Found Roasted (With Stuffing) Inside Own Oven
8 -- Rapist Released on a Technicality Found Technically Dead
9 -- Surgeon Dies in Apparent Self-surgery Attempt
10 -- Poet Commits Suicide by Firing Two Rounds into Own Head

As I said... I'm making a list... I wonder if they give volume discounts.

What the Stork Brought

As many as 30 per cent of couples in the Philippines are unaware that having sex can result in babies, Health Secretary Manuel Dayrit said on Tuesday.

"They do not know how pregnancy happens," even though some of them have had numerous children already, Dayrit remarked.

The couples believed the children were simply gifts from God.

Liberals in Iran??

Before developing an aversion to water, Mina's husband Reza used to have an obsessive compulsion to take "at least three showers a day and wash his hands every few minutes". Now, its been a year since his last shower and Mina has had enough.

An Iranian woman is attempting to set a legal precedent by divorcing her husband because he has not showered for more than a year, a press report said on Wednesday.

The 36-year-old woman, only identified as Mina, reportedly told a Tehran court her husband Reza smells so bad that even his children will not go near him.

"Everybody is making fun of us. We cannot go to any parties. I feel so ashamed," the woman told the divorce court, according to the governmental Iran newspaper.

It seems that in Iran, a wife can demand a divorce if they can prove their husband is abusive, a drug addict, in jail, unable to provide for the family or living away from home for more than six months. Smelly is not on the list.

Good luck Mina.

No Terrorist Threat

Well. Now we know that the Madrid train bombers had detailed plans of New York's Grand Central Station, indicating they also planned to attack there.

"There is no terrorist threat in this country. This is a lie. This is the biggest lie we've been told." -- Michael Moore

Drawings and "highly specialised technical information" about the station were found on a computer disk seized from the home of one of the suspects, El Mundo reported, citing sources close to the investigation.

The disk was confiscated within two weeks of the attacks on March 11, 2004, that killed 191 people in Madrid, but Spanish investigators did not warn the FBI and the CIA until December, when the full scope of the technical information became clear, the paper said.

Ten bombs hidden in sports bags exploded on board four packed commuter trains last March 11 in an attack claimed by men saying they acted in the name of al-Qaeda in Europe in response to Spain sending troops to Iraq and Afghanistan.

"I think there has been an exaggeration," Mr. Kerry said when asked whether President Bush has overstated the threat of terrorism. "They are misleading all Americans in a profound way."

The same group is suspected of planting a bomb on a high-speed rail line south of Madrid a few days after the deadly attacks, and seven prime suspects later blew themselves up in a suburban Madrid apartment when surrounded by police.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Change the name of the book to "Saddam the Wolf" and this cartoon is as applicable now as it was then. Its true, the more things change, the more they remain the same.

So. In honor of Dr. Seuss, I thought I'd drag this out of the closet, a LindaSoG original from a couple of years ago:

Good Grief-a-Thon

Jeff at Beautiful Atrocities comments on the amazing Ward Churchill, who knows not only how to grieve better than we do, but who to grieve for too.

"I mourn the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks, just as I mourn the deaths of those Iraqi children, the more than 3 million people killed in the war in Indochina, those who died in the U.S. invasions of Grenada, Panama & elsewhere in Central America, the victims of the transatlantic slave trade & the indigenous peoples still subjected to genocidal policies."

In a completely selfless act to help better mankind, Jeff has shared his extensive knowledge to help us manage our personal grieving for humanity, in order that we might perhaps approach the saintly angst of Mr. Churchill.

So, here is your grieving schedule for the week, (or as as Ward Churchill might call it, your grief quota) as suggested by Jeff:

MONDAY: Mourn for 6 million victims of Holocaust. 100 million slaughtered by Communists, millions slaughtered by Aztecs, Mongols, Huns, Saddam Hussein, Idi Amin, Mobutu, Mugabe, Khmer Rouge, Mengistu, Seiko Toure, victims of Arab slave trade, + 4 American workers in Iraq eulogized by Markos Zuniga

TUESDAY: Mourn billions dead of old age, millions of species wiped out by unregulated volcanoes, disco, Llama Butchers, Kyoto, Old Europe, Uday & Whoozit, NHL, Bambi's mother, the Mets, Brad & Jenn, gay marriage, merlot, Broadway

WEDNESDAY: Mourn unjustly cancelled soaps: the late great Santa Barbara, Sunset Beach, Dark Shadows; Dark Shadows redux), Edge of Night. Ashley Bashioum, fired from Young & the Restless. Austin Peck, fired from Days of our Lives. Deceased soap stars Grayson Hall, MacDonal Carey, Gerald Anthony, Brenda Benet

The rest of week is here. Thanks Jeff, and please pass the tissues.

Food for Thought

I am so sick of the liberal left, both domestic and foreign, constantly berating America as being morally bankrupt and a plague upon mankind. To them, we are quite singularly responsible for all the evil in the world through our crass, greedy, capitalistic practices. So, tonight, this unapologetic capitalist is watching Oliver North’s War Stories and I’m seeing American sailors who survived the sinking of their ship and were imprisoned by the Japanese. A photo reveals their starkly emaciated condition upon their post-war emancipation, graphic evidence of the cruel deprivation inflicted upon them by the Japanese. A now robust surviving sailor tells Ollie he came out of that camp weighing 95 pounds.

I think about that for a moment and a kaleidoscope of such images that I have witnessed in my sixty-three years lights up my mind: innumerable accounts of the gross mistreatment of prisoners from many sources; the bone-visible survivors of Auschwitz and other German concentration camps; the human skeletons emerging from the Philippine hellholes the Japanese maintained; the skeletal denizens of the Soviet gulag, starved and worked to death for transgressions against the regime; American POW’s, repatriated from North Korea and Vietnam. And, more recently, I recall the videos of bloated bellied African toddlers, starved by an uncaring, despotic government in Sudan.

But you know one image that isn’t there? I delve deep into my mind trying to find even one example and I cannot find it. Can you guess what it is? Try this: go back through all your experiences of the twentieth century and try to come up with one, just one, just one single image of a starving, emaciated prisoner in the custody of American troops or the American government. I’m not saying it may not exist, but if it did, don’t you think some self-loathing, America-hating college professor would have revealed it to the world by now? Yes, mistreatment occurred on both sides during our civil war, but by the time I grew up, literally in middle America, in a small town in Oklahoma, attitudes had changed; the German POW’s incarcerated in our local prison were well treated, well fed, and encouraged to be healthy contributors to our economy. They did.

And that folks, says a hell of a lot about us, about you, about me, and about this great country, which together, we comprise. Yeah, we may take some terror suspects into custody and interrogate them aggressively. We may imprison Taliban suspects in Guantanamo and deprive them of sleep and discomfit them in other ways in our efforts to glean battlefield intelligence from them. We may even have committed the horrible transgression of putting panties (gasp) over some terrorists’ heads in Abu Ghraib. But guess what? None of them, not one single prisoner whom I’ve seen in the mainstream media’s avalanche of news reports of our horrible transgressions, exhibits any evidence of being starved.

Nope they all look amazingly well fed, don’t they? There wasn’t one single scarecrow in that pornographic pyramid of prisoners in Abu Ghraib. Nope, all those butts looked amazingly rotund and well fed, didn’t they? Admittedly, they’re kinda skinny by American standards, but there’s not one human skeleton in the lot as far as I’ve been able to determine, not a single starvation induced, skin-stretching rib or jauntily jutting hipbone in evidence in any one of those pictures.

So what does that say, America, about our moral bankruptcy, our inhumanity and our lack of concern for our fellow man? Well, it tells this ol’ Texas boy that all those pointy-headed academics, like that phony, overweight, cigar-store Indian, Ward Churchill, and all his loudly complaining, liberal supporters, don’t have one single clue about the real evils that exist in this world. From their ivory castles, they hurl barbed charges against us, you and me, us ol’ ordinary folks, proclaiming us the spawn of the Devil because we support that other devil, Karl Rove, who is out to put them all in chains. They are clueless, totally clueless; and they damned sure don’t have a clue about the good fortune that has been visited upon them by their birthright to be citizens of this great nation, a nation that, in spite of all its faults, does not starve its prisoners.

There is no greater cruelty in life than that of depriving a living creature of food to the point of starvation.

Just think about that all you pet-owning, America-hating Liberals and then consider your political friends.

Sign the 180 Senator

Well. Thirty days have passed and no 180. Jeepers. The Great Pretender must have forgotten all about it! So? I consider it my civic duty to remind The Great Pretender to keep his promise to the citizens of the United States of America.

You can help. Send the Senator an email with a link to the the form. Have your friends do so too. and... if you are a blogger, join us for the Tuesday Blogburst!

Islamic Law

Yesterday morning, I found my tire had been slashed by the wife-beater who lives next door. He did it because I called the police on him for doing what he did. The wife was seen dancing in front of my car, celebrating his "victory" over me and proving once again that no good deed goes unpunished.

How do you help people who won't help themselves?

Covered in layers of flowing black fabric that extend to the tips of her gloved hands, Jenan al-Ubaedy knows her first priority as one of some 90 women who will sit in the national assembly: implementing Islamic law.

She is quick to tick off what sharia will mean for married women. "[The husband] can beat his wife but not in a forceful way, leaving no mark. If he should leave a mark, he will pay," she says of a system she supports. "He can beat her when she is not obeying him in his rights. We want her to be educated enough that she will not force him to beat her, and if he beats her with no right, we want her to be strong enough to go to the police."

Are these women so damaged by their religion that the best they can hope for is a world where the law provides guidelines on how much they can be beaten?

It would appear so.
