Black Gold?

Are Gasoline Prices High?

In 1950, a gallon of regular gasoline sold for about 30 cents; today, it's $2.50. Are today's gasoline prices high compared to 1950? Before answering that question, we have to take into account inflation that has occurred since 1950. Using my trusty inflation calculator (www.westegg.com/inflation), what cost 30 cents in 1950 costs $2.33 in 2005. In real terms, that means gasoline prices today are only slightly higher, about 8 percent, than they were in 1950. Up until the recent spike, gasoline prices have been considerably lower than 1950 prices.

The reality check continues here.

How do you say it in muslim?

Ever wonder what the muslim word for "terrorist" is?

Three people killed in southern Thailand by suspected Muslim militants

Two Buddhist Thais and a Muslim village headman have been shot dead by masked suspected Islamic militants in the restive south, police said.

Sukit Yingsong, a 28-year-old defence volunteer, and his paralysed father Kan Yingsong, 60, were strafed with machine-gun fire at their home in Yala province late Friday, police said.

"It is clear that the perpetrators were militants because Sukit was threatened and told to abandon his house, which is surrounded by Muslim villagers," said district police commander Colonel Parnpitak Thepchudeang.

There you have it folks. Wonder no more, the muslim word for "terrorist" is obviously... "militant," something that the American mainstream media has known all along.

As long as we are defining words, let me be clear about something... there is a difference between arab and muslim. Arab means "of arabic descent." Muslim means "adherent to islam."

Okay. School is out now.

For This We Gave Up Gaza

Terrorist Attack in Israel

A suicide bomber rocked the center of the Negev capital of Be'er Sheva early Sunday, wounding at least 48 people, two of them seriously, in the first such terror attack since Israel began its withdrawal from the Gaza Strip earlier this month.

The bomber had aroused the suspicions of the driver of a crowded Number 9 bus. Asked by the bomber if his bus went to Soroka, the driver directed him to another area, then alerted security guards, who pursued the attacker until he set off the bomb.

Witnesses said the alertness of the driver and the guards prevented what could have been a much more costly attack. The explosion occurred during the morning rush hour at the start of the Israeli work week.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast, which came three days after the Islamic Jihad had sworn "painful" revenge for a raid in which IDF troops killed five Palestinians in their hideout in the West Bank city of Tulkarm.

But Army Radio quoted unnamed security officials saying Sunday that the Hamas organization in Hebron is believed to have launched the attack.

The bus driver told Israel Radio the suicide bomber was carrying a heavy bag and drew his suspicion.

"I was suspicious of him, he had a large back pack and a plastic bag in his hand," a witness who identified himself as a bus driver named Rami told Israel Radio. "I pointed him out to the guard. He was about 20 meters from the bus when he blew up. It was a huge explosion, very big," he said.

The bomber then detonated the explosives, seriously wounding the two guards. The wounded were all taken to Soroka Hospital in the city.

Yehuda Shoshan, a paramedic, said the two security guards were critically wounded. "They were suffering from shrapnel wounds and burns all over their bodies," he told Channel 10 TV.

And so it begins continues.

For Freedom!

An American Soldier, a hero!

Today accompanied by my wife and children I met with my new unit and took the oath of enlistment. The picture above was found on the net. I thought it was significant because the photo are Soldiers re-enlisting at Ziggurat of Ur, a famous archaeological site in Iraq, built around 2100 BC to honor the moon god Nanna.

Just like them, I didn’t need to re-enlist. I did it because in this day and age, where there is so much unpredictability, there needs to be Soldiers who will stand to defend our beloved country and freedoms. No matter if you are a supporter or not, you can count on a Soldier to preserve what many people take for granted. Freedom!

Thank G-d for men like this.

3:45 am Update

Katrina cut a path directly over my home, then took a little jig south before continuing west. The eye of storm emerged into the gulf about 30 minutes ago.

I woke about 3:00 am and took a look around. All seems to be well here. Lots of branches down, but none of them on my car. The wind is strong and steady. Rain is light.

Reports of 1.3 million without power, trees down and at least four deaths so far. Those who died were those who were foolish enough to be driving around in the middle of the storm. Some people lost their roofs.

I'm not out of it yet, the doppler shows we will get lots of rain over the next 12 hours. Too bad since, if the power is on, I am going to work in the morning. The market is open and so is my office.

Sucks Being Me...

UPDATE:

7:00 pm and landfall is just a mile north of my house.

Its mighty quiet out there at the moment.

A few tree branches landed on my truck although I don't see that there's damage there. I moved the truck away from that stupid tree.

Debris all over the place, eerie yellow out there. light rain falling.

An injured bird is hopping around my back yard. He can't seem to get airborne any higher than about my waist height. I can't rescue him, he gets away too fast, and even if I can catch him, I can't bring him inside. I have to worry about my bird catching something from him.

----------------------

Well.

This will have to be quick as I keep losing the internet connection and the power has flickered on and off a few times since I've been home. I expect I'll lose power soon.

There's lots of wind and rain. Lots of tree branches in the road already and the streets are flooded in places.

Weather reports say its gonna get a lot worse before it gets better so it looks like its gonna be a long hard night.

I do not have shutters on this house and boy do I wish I did.
Bleh. I'm shutting down now, gonna settle in and read a book.

What now?

Radio Al-Aqsa, Hamas' radio station, continues to broadcast crude hate-mongering songs inciting terrorism and violence against Israel, and songs praising and encouraging members of the Izzadine al-Qassam Battalions, the terrorist-operative wing of the organization.

"We will be victorious over Sharon, and you will realize that tomorrow with the help of Allah. The Izzadine al-Qassam Battalions will make you tremble in Haifa, in Tel Aviv. They will strike you in Safed, in Acre.

Wait for us in Jaffa, Haifa, Tel Aviv, Ashkelon. The knights of Gaza are coming. Our beloved sons of Palestine, we make no distinction between [Israeli-controlled] Palestine and [the West Bank and Gaza Strip] Palestine. There is no difference between Jaffa and Gaza, between the Galilee and Hebron. Hamas will leave Gaza and break out throughout Palestine to show the way of jihad, which will bring our nation to its summit. Oh sons of Zion, the defeat you suffered in Gaza is just the beginning."

it says... You will never return. We will drive you out [by force] of the belly of the earth and you will [also] disappear from the surface of the earth. In other words... we will force you to disappear entirely.

Yes, Hamas, the terror group that makes up a major portion of Palestinian Government, has launched a public relations campaign in the Palestinian Authority, taking credit for the withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and vowing to bring terror to “Haifa and Tel Aviv” until Israel is defeated and all of Palestine is returned to the Arabs.

it says... Israel will no longer exist

So. What now, Ariel Sharon? What now?

Happy Birthday Dennis Leary!

From Dennis Leary: I love to smoke (a bit sanitized)...

I love to smoke. I smoke seven thousand packs a day, ok. And I am never f'ing quitting! I don't care how many laws they make. What's the law now? You can only smoke in your apartment, under a blanket, with all the lights out? Is that the rule now, huh?! The cops are outside, "We know you have the cigarettes. Come out of the house with the cigarettes above your head." "You'll never get me copper! I'm never coming out, you hear? I got a cigarette machine right here in my bedroom. Yeah!"

and...

we tried to be nice to you non-smokers. We f'ing tried. Okay? You wanted your own sections in the restaurants. We gave you that, huh. But that wasn't enough for you. Then you wanted the airplanes. We gave you the whole damn plane! You happy now? You own the f'ing plane! I'd like an explanation about that one folks because I will guarantee you if the plane is going down, the first announcement you're gonna hear is, "Folks, this is your Captain speaking. Look, uhm, light 'em up, 'cause we're going down, okay. I got a carton of Camels non-filters, I'll see you on the ground. Take it easy.

and...

Yeah, we tried to be nice to you non-smokers. We tried. But you just f'ing badger us, you know? You won't leave us alone! You got all your little speeches you're always giving to us. All these little facts that you dig out of a newspaper or pamphlet and you store that little nugget in your little f'ing head, and we light up and you spew 'em out at us, don't ya? I love these little facts. "Well you know. Smoking takes ten years off your life." Well it's the ten worst years, isn't it folks? It's the ones at the end! It's the wheelchair kidney dialysis f'ing years. You can have those years! We don't want 'em, alright!?

Because you're always telling us, "You know, every cigarette takes six minutes off your life. If you quit now you can live an extra ten years. If you quit now, you can live an extra twenty years." Hey, I got two words for you, ok. Jim Fix. Remember Jim Fix? The big famous jogging guy? Jogged fifteen miles a day. Did a jogging book. Did a jogging video. Dropped out of a heart attack when? When he was f'ing jogging, that's when! What do you wanna bet it was two smokers who found the body the next morning and went, "Hey! That's Jim Fix, isn't it?" "Wow, what a f'ing tragedy. Come on, lets go buy some butts."

It's always the yogurt sprout eating mother f'ers who get run over buy a bus driven by a guy who smokes three and a half packs a day. "Sorry officer, I didn't see him. I was too busy smoking!"

I love to smoke. I love to smoke and I love to eat red meat. I love to eat raw f'ing red meat. Nothing I like better than sucking down a hot steaming cheese burger and a butt at the same time. I love to smoke. I love to eat red meat. I'll only eat red meat that comes from cows who smoke, ok!? Special cows they grow in Virginia with voice boxes in their necks. "Moo"

I tried eating vegetarian. I feel like a wimp going into a restaurant. "What do you want to eat sir? Broccoli?" Broccoli's a side dish, folks. Always was, always will be, ok? When they ask me what I want, I say, "What do you think I want!? This is America. I want a bowl of raw red meat right now. Forget about that. Bring me a live cow over to the table. I'll carve off what I want and ride the rest home!"

I'm gonna open up my own place. Open my own restaurant and get away from you people. I gonna open up a restaurant with two smoking sections; Ultra and Regular, ok? And we're not gonna have any tables or any chairs or any napkins. None of that pussy shit. Just a big wide open black space. And all we're gonna serve is raw meat, right on the bone! And only men are going to eat there, naked men, sitting around a big giant camp fire, and no men's room either. You have to piss, you mark your territory like a wolf! And if some guy has a heart attack from eating too much meat, fuck him, we throw him in the fire! More meat for the other meat-eaters! Yeah!

Because you gotta have goals. Because everybody in this room knows everybody who's quitting. You all have that friend who's quitting it. You know what I mean? The guys quitting it, "I quit smoking. I quit drugs. I quit drinking. I quit meat, and I feel great. I get up in the morning and have a nice big bowl of oat bran. I go to the bathroom for three and a half hours. I have another bowl of oat bran. I go back in the bathroom for six more hours. All I do is eat and shit, I'm gonna live forever! My colon is the strongest muscle in my body right now. I could pass Elvis through my colon right now."

And all these cereals they have, Cracklin' Oat Bran, and Horkin' Fiber Chunks, you know? Cereal used to come with a free prize. Now it comes with a free roll of toilet paper in every box. Guys get up on Sunday morning, "Forget about the New York Times, I'm gonna need the Bible. I got a big one brewing here." "Dad, there's a phone call!" "I'm on Genesis, dammit! You tell 'em to call back after the creation!" People checking their own feces for fiber. You have too much free f'ing time on your hands, ok.

Red meat, white meat, blue meat, meat-o-f'ing-rama. You will eat it. Because not eating meat is a decision. Eating meat is an instinct! Yeah! And I know what it's about. "I don't want to eat the meat because I love the animals. I love the animals." Hey, I love the animals too. I love my doggy. He's so cute. My fluffy little dog.. He's so cute- There's the problem. We only want to save the cute animals, don't we? Yeah. Why don't we just have animal auditions. Line 'em up one by one and interview them individually. "What are you?" "I'm an otter." "And what do you do?" "I swim around on my back and do cute little human things with my hands." "You're free to go." "And what are you?" "I'm a cow." "Get in the f'ing truck, ok pal!" "But I'm an animal." "You're a baseball glove! Get on that truck!" "I'm an animal, I have rights!" We kill the cows to make jackets out of them and then we kill each other for the jackets we made out of the cows.

You will eat the meat folks, because this country was founded on two things. Meat, and war. You eat enough f'ing meat, you wanna kill somebody. That's the way it works. That was the ultimate American dream. During that Persian Gulf War, I was sitting in my living room, naked, with a can of Budweiser and a three inch steak watching the war, live, on TV. I had a six foot erection with a giant cheese burger on the end of it. I ate so much meat during the war that by the time the war was over three weeks later, I was like, "No no no. We need to keep fighting. Make a couple of stops on our way home from the Persian Gulf. First stop! Vietnam! Surprise the f'k out of those people, huh?" "You make a movie?" "Not this time, pal!"

Cindy Sheehan - Moonbat Mom

Cindy, I am sorry you lost your son but why do you insist on making a mockery of your grief? Hate to tell ya, but not only are you ridiculous, you are irrelevant:

Rasmussen Reports: August 19, 2005--Cindy Sheehan, the grieving mother who maintained an anti-War protest outside of President Bush's ranch, is viewed favorably by 35% of Americans and unfavorably by 38%.

Sheehan is viewed favorably by 34% of men and 35% of women. Forty-two percent (42%) of men and 34% of women have an unfavorable view.

In general, people see in Sheehan what they want to see. Opinion about her is largely based upon views of the War, rather than views about the woman herself. Democrats, by a 56% to 18% margin, have a favorable opinion. Republicans, by a 64% to 16% margin, have an unfavorable view. Those not affiliated with either major party are evenly divided.

People who think we should withdraw troops from Iraq now have a positive opinion of Sheehan (59% favorable, 12% unfavorable). Those who do not think we should withdraw troops at this time have a negative view (15% favorable , 64% unfavorable).

Among those with family members who have served in the military, Sheehan is viewed favorably by 31% and unfavorably by 48%.

If there is any compassion for this moonbat left amongst her relatives, perhaps they will remand her into a psychiatric care facility where she can get the help she so obviously needs.

One can only hope.

Lazer Beams

In these days of sadness and horror, I found a bit of comfort at Lazer Beams, the internet home of Rabbi Lazer Brody. I thought I would share:

The magnificent people of Am Yisroel!

Tattered, torn, but still flying

Out of the ashes of Gush Katif, the glowing embers of the world's most noble people illuminate the world. The day's images from Gush Katif include soldiers joining anti-withdrawal protesters in prayer before evicting them; an elderly rabbi hugging a Torah scroll as he's being escorted away; a young man reading from his prayer book as soldiers carry him to a bus. Only in Israel, can you find border police gently loading diapers and toys onto buses for evacuation. Few of the soldiers, neither men nor women, performed their duties with dry eyes. There is no nation like you, Israel!

Game over, or new beginning?

Settler departing from his home in the Alei Sinai
village of Gush Katif, with Sefer Torah in hand

Some are saying that the game's over. I disagree; everything that Hashem does is for the absolute best. People now know that neither side of secular Zionism - whether Labor or Likud - can be trusted. Religious Zionist leaders now realize that for years, they bet on the wrong horse. The tribulations of recent weeks have brought all of Hashem's faithful together, in a new unity. The growing Torah alliance will flourish, G-d willing, and lead the way to the final redemption of our people and our homeland.

Thank you Rabbi Brody, for sharing your wisdom with us, and for helping me find a moment of peace during this difficult and painful time.

Crocodile Tears and Solidarity For Gush Katif

Last week, Mere Rhetoric reminded us not to call left-wing media star Cindy Sheehan an anti-Semite just because she's funded by a group that advocates the destruction of Israel. He reminded us to call her an anti-Semite because she believes that a dark cabal of Jews is running the US government.

Ah yes, according to Cindy, it was the Jews who got her son killed. According to Cindy, all world terrorism is because of the Jews. According to Cindy, Israel should be destroyed.

I am sorry to say that here in Miami, Cindy and her anti-semitic views found support from Democracy for America Miami-Dade.

A Solidarity Rally was held at the Torch of Friendship in Miami on August 15, 2005 to demonstrate support of the heroic Jewish pioneer families of Gush Katif – Gaza, and against Sharon's suicidal plan to expel over 10,000 Jews in the Gaza District and northern Samaria. The Rally was organized by the Alliance for Eretz Yisrael and coordinated with other rallies held worldwide.

The lunatic leftists that call themselves Democracy For America Miami-Dade ("DFAM") attempted to disrupt the Miami Solidarity Rally with a rally for the left's favorite anti-semite:

The ill-conceived plan to hijack the Solidarity Rally was hastily thrown together three days before the scheduled event. Local Alliance organizers were informed of the "impromptu" rally on Saturday and immediately notified DFAM of the conflict, only to be rebuffed, and insulted.

DFAM representatives then complained to the Miami City Police that they were being threatened by the Alliance, and insinuated that the Solidarity Rally was planned as a counter-protest to their Rally, despite the fact that the Alliance obtained a permit for the Solidarity Rally on July 29, 2005.

Emails were sent to a local Alliance organizer (and copies sent to DFAM members) which boasted of DFAM's intent to ignore the Solidarity Rally and go forward with the counter-rally to support Cindy the anti-semite despite the fact that DFAM had not obtained a permit.

DFAM's attempt to slander the organizers and disrupt the Solidary Rally failed miserably. DFAM could only muster up a few anti-semites to support Cindy and, upon arriving at the Rally location, they were shunted off to a remote corner by the City of Miami Police Department. After they cried and whined, and ranted and raved, DFAM members were permitted to wave their signs nearly a block away. Dispirited and irrelevant, they left after about an hour and before the Solidarity Rally began.

As for the Solidarity Rally, well, despite the efforts of DFAM, it was a success.

Signatures were gathered for a Special Proclamation urging Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to reconsider his plan to surrender the sacred Land of Israel into terrorist hands. On Wednesday, August 17, 2005, the Proclamation will be delivered directly to the Israeli Government by rally organizers by placing it into the hands of Consul General of Israel, Dr. Yitschak Ben Gad. Following the rally, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and all members of the Israeli government were faxed the proclamation.

Hundreds of Jews and non-Jews came from all over Florida to attend this most crucial rally held with less then 24 hours left before the plan went into effect where residents of Gush Katif are forcibly moved from their homes. Cities represented included Orlando, Ft. Meyers, Hollywood, Dearfield Beach, Boca Raton, North Miami Beach, Miami, Miami Beach, Hallendale, South Miami, Davie, Bal Harbor, Delray Beach, Pembroke Pines, Bay Harbour Island, Cape Coral, Aventura and Kendall.

Participants were led in prayer for the Medina by internationally renown Chazan Netanel Hershtik and addressed by Rabbi Hershel Becker of Young Israel in Kendal, Rabbi Yossi Denburg of Chabad Lubavitch Synagogue in Coral Springs, Shelomo Alfassa, Executive Director of the International Society for Sephardic Progress from Orlando, Heather Andron of Americans for a Safe Israel and Radio Host Joe Kaufman of the show " Politics of Terrorism" on Kol Halav.

Participants also heard updates with a recent recording from Danella Weiss who focused on the plight of Jews and heard an impassioned pleas by Rachel Saperstein, Spokesperson from Gush Katif.

Local television provided a brief coverage of the Rally, and the Miami Herald covered the Rally as well, the article can be found here. The AP provided photo coverage.

Additional rallies will be occuring around the world in major cities over the next few days. See information in the Alliance for Eretz Yisrael website www.telavivrally.com and the South Florida website: www.letmypeoplestay.org.

Miami Tisha B'Av Prayer Vigil Video

On Saturday, August 13, 2005, at Midnight, more than 300 people attended a candlelight vigil was held outside the office building housing the Israeli Consulate, in downtown Miami. The night of August 13th corresponds to one of the most auspicious days in the Jewish calendar - the 9th of Av (“Tisha B’av”).

At a time when Jews around the world mourn and lament the destruction of the two Temples in Jerusalem and calamities that befell the Jewish People throughout history, we raised our voices in prayer.

Photo by Dean Lautermilch. More photos here.

Rally coordinator Jon Kowal stated, “On this day of mourning and fasting, we pray that our Jewish Leaders in Israel will, at this eleventh hour, have a change of heart and that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon will abide by the platform on which he was elected, as expressed in his statements that Jews of Gush Katif are essential to the Safety and Security of the State of Israel and not to give in to terrorism.”

In Memory of a Soldier

A Useful Death

A mother’s anguish turns to ire,
Her liquid tears to spears of fire,
A useful fool for the liberal Left,
All hatred now, no more bereft.
The honor which her son embraced,
Is now dishonored, now disgraced,
As his mother stands atop his grave,
From there to shriek, from there to rave.

Yes, some are maddened in their grief,
And grief can surely change belief;
But this woman’s views, her family say,
Have long been held, long fore today,
Enabling Leftists to use her grieving,
For Moore deception, Moore deceiving.
I see this mother as a willing fool,
A useful Moorish Code Pinko tool.

As one who fought in another place,
I sorrow for this boy’s disgrace,
By a zealot mother grafting grief
Stealing his brave deeds, an honor thief,
Usurping his valor to claim her share,
Five minutes of fame in Media’s glare.
Her platform one you don’t see often:
A dishonored, flag-draped, soldier’s coffin.

I can hear Michael Moore muttering under his breath,
“Yeah, this was really a useful death.”

I saw it on the Internet...

So it must be true...

"Stepping up to the forefront of politics is a new type of leader, motivated by his love for his country, not special interest groups. His distinct image and captivating voice you already know, and now it's your chance to make him the leader of the people, for the people, by the people. That's right... Christopher Walken is running for President."

Christopher Walken 2008

"Our great country is in a terrible downward spiral. We're losing jobs, losing benefits, and losing lives. We need to focus on what's important-- paying attention to our children, our environment, our future. We need to think about improving our underbudget educational system, making better use of our resources, and helping to build a stable, safe, and tolerant global society. It's time to be smart about our politics. It's time to get America back on track."

Shame on you, Cindy

Breaking on Drudge...

FAMILY OF FALLEN SOLDIER PLEADS: PLEASE STOP, CINDY!
Thu Aug 11 2005 12:56:21 ET

The family of American soldier Casey Sheehan, who was killed in Iraq on April 4, 2004, has broken its silence and spoken out against his mother Cindy Sheehan's anti-war vigil against George Bush held outside the president's Crawford, Texas ranch.

The following email was received by the DRUDGE REPORT from Casey's aunt and godmother:

Our family has been so distressed by the recent activities of Cindy we are breaking our silence and we have collectively written a statement for release. Feel free to distribute it as you wish.

Thanks, Cherie

In response to questions regarding the Cindy Sheehan/Crawford Texas issue:

Sheehan Family Statement:

The Sheehan Family lost our beloved Casey in the Iraq War and we have been silently, respectfully grieving. We do not agree with the political motivations and publicity tactics of Cindy Sheehan. She now appears to be promoting her own personal agenda and notoriety at the the expense of her son's good name and reputation. The rest of the Sheehan Family supports the troops, our country, and our President, silently, with prayer and respect.

Sincerely,
Casey Sheehan's grandparents, aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.

Drudge has that as developing but meanwhile...

Mere Rhetoric reminds us not to call left-wing media star Cindy Sheehan an anti-Semite just because she's funded by a group that advocates the destruction of Israel. Call her an anti-Semite because she believes that a dark cabal of Jews is running the US government:

Cindy Sheehan, the mother of a U.S. soldier who was killed in Sadr City, Iraq, on April 4, 2004, expressed her distress and frustration... "Am I emotional? Yes, my first born was murdered. Am I angry? Yes, he was killed for lies and for a PNAC Neo-Con agenda to benefit Israel. My son joined the Army to protect America, not Israel. Am I stupid? No, I know full-well that my son, my family, this nation, and this world were betrayed by George [W.] Bush who was influenced by the neo-con PNAC agenda after 9/11."

Ah yes, it was the Joos who got her son killed. Obviously. Who else could it possibly be?

Today Gaza - Tomorrow Jerusalem

TODAY GAZA - TOMORROW JERUSALEM: The PA Terrorist infrastructure is prepared for the next step in pushing Jews out of their Holiest Cities- Jerusalem and Hebron. All those who have remained silent about the Disengagement Plan have now heard from the mouth of the PA Terror Regime themselves exactly what their Plan is. George Bush knows it. Ariel Sharon knows it. Mofaz knows it. Peres knows it. Mazuz knows it. All assurances they gave that this "Pullout" of Jews was not a first step to other expulsions and surrenders of Land to terror were undemocratic decisions based on false rationales. They know that once the precedence of expelling Jews from this site is set, other Expulsions from other Jewish cities can be easily achieved.

ATTENTION SOUTH FLORIDA: The time to speak up is now.

JOIN US IN PRAYER: On Saturday, August 13, 2005, at Midnight, a candlelight vigil will be held outside the office building housing the Israeli Consulate, 100 N. Biscayne Blvd. in downtown Miami. The night of August 13th corresponds to one of the most auspicious days in the Jewish calendar - the 9th of Av (“Tisha B’av”). Jews around the world mourn and lament the destruction of the two Temples in Jerusalem and calamities that befell the Jewish People throughout history.

SIGN YOUR NAME TO SOUTH FLORIDA'S PROCLAMATION TO THE ISRAELI GOVERNMENT: On Monday, August 15, 2005, at 7:00 PM a second Solidarity Rally at the Torch of Friendship in Miami will demonstrate support of the heroic Jewish pioneer families of Gush Katif – Gaza, and against Sharon's suicidal plan to expel over 10,000 Jews in the Gaza District and northern Samaria. The Torch of Friendship is located on Biscayne Boulevard between NE 3rd and NE 4th Streets in downtown Miami.

The Alliance for Eretz Yisrael will gather signatures to a Special Proclamation urging Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to reconsider his plan to surrender the sacred Land of Israel into terrorist hands. The Special Proclamation will be delivered directly to the Israeli Government by rally organizers by placing it into the hands of Consul General of Israel, Dr. Yitschak Ben Gad and to be sent to Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.

Israeli retreat in the face of Islamic terrorism will have a severe worldwide effect, as terrorists are emboldened with the reward of territory for terror. The result: Gaza will be become a Hamas mini-state - a headquarters for a new wave of terrorism. The seaport and airport will be used to freely import weapons and ammunition to destroy Israel and to supply more suicide bombers to fight American soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Sounds of War

Ever wonder what war sounds like? Neil brings it home over at Armor Geddon.

"I never thought in a million years that I would be stuck in a minefield AND pinned down by a sniper." - Neil Prakash

Whew. That's a bad place, a very bad place.

We were vulnerable to sniper fire and enemy indirect fire being out here in the open desert with no terrain to hide behind. And that’s when the Air Force showed up. The close air support went balls to the wall like something out of We Were Soldiers.

The USAF flew in and dropped more than a few loads. Neil's description is both chilling and exhilarating, he takes us up close and personal to the sights and sounds of war. Read the rest here.

Neil's unit came through this well, thanks to G-d and the United States Air Force.

And hey, while you're over there, check out Neil's tankers video. It positively kicks ass!

The Last Word!

Its been more than a year, it might be two years, that I have been trying to teach my bird to sing "You Are My Sunshine." For the longest time, he would sing part of it, "You are my," but he would not get that last word out.

Finally, finally, he is singing the last word. Yes, the Yaaker is now singing "You are my Sunshine." I can't tell you how happy this makes me.

You're in trouble!

I gotta get it on tape... but in the meantime, click his pic to hear him talk.

Let's hear it for Yaakoo!

Keep on Talking

I could almost feel sorry for the progressive left. As if Howard Dean wasn't enough... they have this...

Harry Belafonte Calls Black Republicans 'Tyrants'

Celebrity activist Harry Belafonte referred to prominent African-American officials in the Bush administration as "black tyrants" at a weekend march, and he also compared the administration to Adolf Hitler's Nazi Germany.

Of course, Belafonte said this at Saturday's march in Atlanta commemorating the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Voting Rights Act. As a featured speaker, Belafonte was almost as inspiring as he was in 2002 when he likened then-Secretary of State Colin Powell to a "house slave."

But wait! There's more:

Civil rights activist Dick Gregory almost outdid Belafonte with his trashing of the United States, calling it "the most dishonest, ungodly, unspiritual nation that ever existed in the history of the planet."

I say almost, because Belafonte still stole the show with this gem...

When asked specifically who was a "black tyrant" in the Bush administration, Belafonte responded to this reporter, "You." When this reporter noted that he was a Caucasian and attempted to ask another question, Belafonte abruptly ended the interview by saying, "That's it."

Yep. That's it.

Gotta love them progressive democrats.

Meet The Sheik

Officially, he's Army Staff Sgt. Dale L. Horn, but to residents of the 37 villages and towns that he patrols he's known as the American sheik. And he's from Florida!

Photo

It started when a local sheik friendly to U.S. forces, Dr. Mohammed Ismail Ahmed, explained the inner workings of rural Iraqi society on one of Horn's first Humvee patrols.

Horn says he was intrigued, and started making a point of stopping by all the villages, all but one dominated by Sunni Arabs, to talk to people about their life and security problems.

Moreover, he pressed for development projects in the area: he now boasts that he helped funnel $136,000 worth of aid into the area. Part of that paid for delivery of clean water to 30 villages during the broiling summer months.

"They saw that we were interested in them, instead of just taking care of the bases," Horn said.

Mohammed, Horn's mentor and known for his dry sense of humor, eventually suggested during a meeting of village leaders that Horn be named a sheik. The sheiks approved by voice vote, Horn said.

Some sheiks later gave him five sheep and a postage stamp of land, fulfilling some of the requirements for sheikdom. Others encouraged him to start looking for a second wife, which Horn's spouse back in Florida immediately vetoed.

But what may have originally started as a joke among crusty village elders has sprouted into something serious enough for 100 to 200 village leaders to meet with Horn each month to discuss security issues.

The sheiks told Horn they will give him an official document deeming him a sheik before he goes home in about two months. He plans to frame it.

Read the rest of it here.

So Many Rules...

I found this over at Slagle's and laughed for about ten minutes:

THE 213 THINGS SKIPPY IS NO LONGER ALLOWED TO DO IN THE U.S. ARMY

By SGT Shawn Stanford

Once upon a time, there was a SPC Schwarz stationed with the Army in the Balkans. SPC Schwarz was either very clever or very bored; but probably both, since he managed to attempt or be warned about 213 things he wasn't allowed to do. He collected those things into a hillarious list and posted them to the web. assembled into a giant battle-robot.

1. Not allowed to watch Southpark when I'm supposed to be working.
2. My proper military title is 'Specialist Schwarz' not 'Princess Anastasia.
3. Not allowed to threaten anyone with black magic.
4. Not allowed to challenge anyone's disbelief of black magic by asking for hair.
5. Not allowed to get silicone breast implants.
6. Not allowed to play 'Pulp Fiction' with a suction-cup dart pistol and any officer.
7. Not allowed to add 'In accordance with the prophesy' to the end of answers I give to a question an officer asks me.
8. Not allowed to add pictures of officers I don't like to War Criminal posters.
9. Not allowed to title any product 'Get Over it'.
10. Not allowed to purchase anyone's soul on Government time.

That's just the first 10, Slagle's got 'em all here.

Cycle of Violence

Israel develops highly sophisticated non-lethal weapons so that they can avoid injuring Palestinian civilians in close quarters:

The Israeli military said Sunday it is changing riot control methods, replacing its sometimes lethal rubber-coated steel pellets with compressed sand bullets.

... and the Palestinians fire rockets into a crowd of 50,000 Israelis:

Hamas tonight fired a rocket in the direction of an anti-Gaza withdrawal rally that attracted tens of thousands of supporters who are planning to march momentarily toward Gaza's Jewish communities. About 50,000 Israelis congregated here in Sderot.

Those murderers ended up killing a 3 year old Palestinian boy when one of the rockets went astray. The Israelis do everything possible to avoid harming Palestinians, the Palestinians fire rockets into crowds to indiscriminately kill both Israelis and Palestinians, but somehow it's a cycle of violence that both sides are equally responsible for.

So says Omri, and he's right.

Meanwhile... the San Fran Chronicle says:

Seventeen-year-old Osama Abu Asi knows what Hamas stands for: swimming lessons, horseback riding, potato sack races and other summertime fun -- including religious education and paramilitary training.

What else does Hamas stand for?

"They also learn how to sing "intifada songs," including one urging them to "kill Zionists wherever they are, in the name of God."

Just in case you had any doubts.

The "Inner Nazi"

I'm a bit under the weather today, but I wanted to bring this to your attention:

MPACUK, Britian's leading Muslim advocacy group, celebrates 19th Century antisemitism by featuring "the beastial Jew with horns" front and center on their website. The article itself, titled "Zionists Behind Terror Attacks," featured this abomination:

The picture was later switched, but not before it was archived.

So where did MPACUK get this classic antisemitic image? From a Neo-Nazi holocaust denial site called "New Journal," known as Global Fire.tv

Hat tip to Reactionista, who has more on MPACUK's Jew-hating articles and their bait and switch policy for materials that reflect their "inner nazi" tendencies. Head on over there, please!

Scary stuff. Hard to believe that no one's paying attention.
