Something... and Half of Something: I'm surprised!

I'm surprised!

The Washington Post has a poll:

As the war in Iraq grinds into its fourth year, a growing proportion of Americans are expressing unfavorable views of Islam, and a majority now say that Muslims are disproportionately prone to violence, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

So. What's surprising about that is:

The poll found that nearly half of Americans -- 46 percent -- have a negative view of Islam, seven percentage points higher than in the tense months after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, when Muslims were often targeted for violence.

Nearly half? Hmph. I guess the other half missed this.

That is the true face of Islam, Ken.

Olin Eugene Armstrong was an American contractor working in Iraq for the construction firm Gulf Services Company of the United Arab Emirates. He was beheaded on September 20, 2004 by Tawhid and Jihad, a militant group led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. Abu Musab al-Zarqawi is believed to have personally beheaded Armstrong.

The following day, the group beheaded another hostage, American Jack Hensley, and threatened to kill their third hostage, Briton Kenneth Bigley, unless the United States meets their demands to free all women prisoners in Iraqi jails.

The host for the Tawhid and Jihad website showing his murder, HostingAnime, has defended its content citing "free speech".

I am sure they also condemned the cartoons.

This came from the Washington Pravda? Don't bet that it was fair. And don't bet on any poll being fair. Polling is the science of nothing and means nothing.

There is a poll out there that says 70% of troops polled in Iraq said we don't need to be there. What crap. Guess what? I was a troop that never thought we should be anywhere. But that is not the point. You can't scientifically prove that 70% of 1,200 boots in Iraq said this war is wrong. Bilge!

Don't beleive polls, even if you agree with them.
